Hello VO.

My passport is to expire by June 2016 while my interview date is December 15, 2015 for a 4 year PhD program Student Visa. Do you foresee any problem with my passport as Nigeria Immigration Office is not ready to renew my passport until it is within 6 months of expiration?

Hello Fideco,

If your situation has changed since your visa was issued, it is always best to be honest and forthright once you get to the port of entry. Admission into the US is actually the jurisdiction of our colleagues at Customs and Border Protection. For more information, here is their link http://www.cbp.gov/travel/international-visitors#

For tourism, B1/B2 would be the visa class. And again, families are more than welcome to apply together.

Regards,

Abuja NIV Team

Thanks alot for your response!

Hello NivAbuja,

I attended an interview today with my father inlaw who is legally blind for a medical visa. This is the second time in two months. The first interview was going on well until the visa officer wanted the estimate for the cornea transplant to be done on my father inlaw. we told the VO that the doctors needed to see the patient before an estimate can be done. His son is in the US and an American citizen who will be footing the hospital bill. my husband works offshore and cannot travel hence i was ask by my husband to do it. we were giving a yellow leaflet and asked to come back when we have the needed informations.

Today we attended the interview again. My father inlaw was granted a medical visa and mine was rejected. I almost threw up in the Embassy. He is not seeing, cant even see food not to talk of walking to the bathroom. The reason that the VO gave was that airlines will make arrangement for that. The airline is not going to be with him at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

His son has a job that keeps him always travelling in the states and his wife works with Department of Homeland security (FEMA) and currently on a federal assignment in Oklahoma city. I am the only one that will be there 24/7 to assist him during and after the transplant.

My father inlaw cant travel alone because it was specified in the letter Emory Hospital gave to us. He needs to be accompanied by a family member. The hospital appointment for my father inlaw is December 10th, 2015.

What do I do .

I need answers please. he is dying and desperately needs a cornea transplant on the last remaining eye.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, it appears that you are not eligible for the U.S. visa. You can find someone in the U.S. who can assist your father or find someone eligible for the U.S. visa to apply.

As has been previously stated, you need to refer your technical questions to the points of contact on the website.

You can reapply immediately, but we don't recommend that applicants reapply for at least 90 days unless something significant has changed.

Hello LagosNIV.

Thank you for your valuable inputs. I had a successful interview at the Lagos Embassy yesterday.

However, they returned my passport photograph at the bio-metrics stage and the VO did not request for it. Aren't they meant to hold on to it, for issuing the visa?

TIA.

Does it give you a better chance getting visa at d end?

Thirdly I was into bizness I travel to dubai to buy wears nd gold but later stope wen I did a major operation.he did not state it on my form rather he just went ahead nd filled home maker. Now my question is? Will filling in all these. Be seen as a significant change? We will pack all docs for proof to d embassy.

The surname on the passport will be the surname that goes on the visa. It is up to you whether you get a new passport or not.

Be prepared to answer questions about the different surname.

Mention the discrepancy during intake and at the interview; bring some proof of your true date of birth.

Probably not. The problem is not that it wasn't filled in on the form because the VO can ask for any information that they need at the time of the interview. Nothing has actually changed significantly with your circumstances, you are just mentioning your presentation of facts that have essentially remained the same.

You are welcome to re-apply at any time though if you feel that putting this information on your form will impact the entirety of the interview.

please i require clarification on this inquiry. What of in a situation where i am issued a 2 year American visa and due to some circumstances was not able to visit the States within/throughout the 2 years till the visa expires. Would that have any negative effect on my chances of getting the visa renewed?
