What am saying is that America sees sex as a normal thing. They don't really count it as something of big importance. I know they can be faithful but that's only after marriage.

You seriously overestimate Americans.

Marriages in the states rarely last - the divorce rate is at least 40% but with the separation rate thrown in the marriage breakdown rate is closer to 70% than 50%.

The primary reasons for marital breakup are sex (infidelity) and money.

my brother, curiosity can make anybody watch anything.

The human mind feeds off of curiosity, they just want to understand the idea behind it, not to engage in it

So yeah, I can imagine Nigerian guys watching gay porn

Nigerians are obsessed with se.x, we just pretend not to be.

In this article, I am going to be talking about pornography – Internet pornography to be precise (and ancillary issues). But I do so with an upfront caveat – I do not intend to moralise as it is not my place to debate the morality of what adults indulge in on their devices, in their spare time. However, as a student of culture and behavioural development, I am concerned about vulnerable groups; particularly children and young teenagers. So, my article will focus on these two groups and tangentially, on women.

In 2015, I was privileged to work on two projects. The first was Jack & Jil Therapy – a free telephone based platform for those needing help for critical sexuality & life issues. The second project was #SaveMirabel, a movement to raise urgent funds for Lagos’ only rape crisis centre – The Mirabel Centre. As a result of my involvement with these two initiatives, I was exposed to a treasure trove of information about sexuality issues in Nigeria. I will share some of them in this article.

In 2014, the popularity of Nigerian Google searches for pornography (relative to other searches) on a scale of 0 to 100 was above 80. (Google ranks as 100 any item that constitutes 10% or more of all searches in a country.) The number of average monthly searches by volume was 165,000 and the States with the greatest popularity for porn searches were: Lagos, Oyo, Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Abuja. The relative popularity of rape pornography videos was also above 80, with Lagos State leading the charge and Nigeria ranked third globally for the most Google searches for Gay pornography. (We were ranked second in 2013.)

Since 2009, pornography search popularity has always risen above 70 every December, save one. In December 2009 and 2010, Nigeria outstripped America in the popularity of searches for pornography – a nation twice our size.

A popular pornography site is among the top 50 sites visited by Nigerians according to Alexa.com. It is more popular than the leading jobs and news sites.

The reddened discredits this piece of crap report.

Of course, without this research, one with discernment can see how most youths (middle to aged too) have their minds fixated on sex.

Now, with this research it is a confirmation that is shocking but more worrisome is the fact that we have few mental health professionals and therapists to handle a growing cancer. An average of 1:760,000 is disheartening.
And to think that, due to large undocumented facts lying about; this research has barely scratched the surface.

Parents need a fast upgrade. I think I need an upgrade as well, didn't even know about the slangs. I am responsible for every young person, I have a close encounter with.

We are having this problem because as a people, we have this' stupid habit of burying our head in the sand when reality stares us in the face. For example, in the face of this menace, where are the parents? Are they giving proper sex education to their children? Most don't . and that is a serious problem.
Communication is key, and sex education is important. Make them understand why their hormones are raging and leave the doors of communication open, so that they can report suspicious activities on their bodies by predators and don't make your children ashamed of talking about sex with u.

All these and many more done by many parents will stem the tide of continued porn usage, rapes and pervertism and yerimaism.
We should face these issues dispassionately.

Lol. Hypocrisy, self-denial, pretense and tartuffery is responsible for our 'profound hatred' towards gays and sex related matters. There are as many gay people in Nigeria and Africa at large like it's in the West, just that the aforementioned trait won't let gay lovers open up and accept their sexuality.

I'm guessing that most of the gay porn views was generated mainly from lesbian porn as from my personal experience with my mates I've realised that a lot of guys loves to watch ladies make out. And for some it could be that they are bi-curious but are suppressing it, which isn't bad provided they understand that not everyone can be conservative towards their sexual tendency and adopt a live and let live attitude.

However, what is surprising is that, these characters who loves to berate homosexuals are lesbian porn lovers. To be fair to them, I find it normal to watch ladies make out too but unlike them I don't go about chastising people based on their sexuality even though I consider it an obscenity.

If there was a way to restore virginity or completely reset one's body to be that of a virgin, the vast majority of Nigerians would have undergo such procedure countless times so as to appear 'holy' and reserve. Any people and society where religion hold sway like ours are the most hypocritical, deceptive and dangerous.

Before we know it, this thread will suddenly turn to an ADVERT to solicit for Homosexual Perverseness!

Maybe that was the subtle intention sha.

I would rather a Youth that jerks himself/herself off on Porn, that one that Rapes others, due to their need for s.ex.
Porn as l see it, is the "lesser" of the TWO EVILS!

For most people, its a phase and they get over it with time.

I remember as a student in Unilag back then, we had "Special Mojo Nights" where Porn was broadcasted ALL NIGHT grin grin grin .... despite the fact that a female hostel (Moremi Hall) was less than 100m away! (from Jaja Hall and Marierie Halls).

But you never hear of students being raped on Campus as it is nowadays!

And yes, we got over it once we shifted our attention to "Monday Lectures and Exam time".

Infact, l believe in the theory (and that is what l teach my kids), of MODERATELY EXPLORING any Youthful Vice (emphasis on "moderately"wink, if they chose to, because l realize that it actually develops their level of self-control..... when they eventually decide to abandon such vice.

Smoke, Drink Alcohol, womanise, watch Porn (No Homosexuality though, as l dont consider that a "vice", it is an "Over-the-top heretical Evil" because it is a debasement of the body, spirit and soul and there is a healthy alternative ---- Just my opinion ), race-drive, Game all night, soccer, travel, e.t.c IN MODERACY, in your Youth...... and overcome/abandon them with your will-power, as you mature into full adulthood.

Used to drink and smoke before..... but for some decades now, l have proudly "controlled and overcome" both vices even though l relax in the midst of friends who still do.
Its called "Self Control" dudes.
Be proud to "Control Everything" .....and "let Nothing Control you"

Lol.. I think even the blind can see how sexually crazy Nigerians are. You bring a thread for people to share crazy things they have done all in the name of sex, and will be shocked .
I remember when sometimes two weeks ago or so, Stelka Dimokokus invited her readers to share something bad they have done anonymously, I was expecting something like "I smoked weed and I got high and bla bla". But no, like 98% of "something bad" these people did was sex related, and very crazy and jaw dropping, even at tender ages.
Nigerians are just pretenders. See them openly condemning America for legalising gay marriages, whereas they are Ogbonge for bisexuality and homosexuality.
And the parents, I don't know if they are actually ignorant or are just faking ignorance.
Nigerians are not pretenders. We are a conservative society.

Nigeria will always out rank other African countries and many other countries in world in whatever. Check out our population and those that has access to Internet. We out number most countries of the world.

Another thing is many countries restrict and censor what and what should be done on their air space via internet and satellite but in Nigeria we don't. Everybody is free to view anything at all.

Nigerians do not pretend, we are conservative. It does not profit any dog anything to move about with poo in his mouth... Even when we know that every local dog eats poo

I don't think Nigeria has reached Yankee in terms of that Oh. But sadly, there are even quiet a number of gay clubs in Naija. From my observation, I think lesbianism is much more rampant than being gays.
I've met 3 normal looking ladies who told me that they've been involved in lesbianism.

Maybe because of the heavy starchy diet or too much mix of different food at a time. Then the increase desire for sex...
Maybe lack of productivity. ..a hard working person who puts in 10 hours of work daily, 5-6 time a week, while thinking of how to pay bills etc wouldn't think of sex like our niajians. Sex and more sex is the goal. When you grow up in a society where Big O is seen as stress relief instead of exercise, what should you expect?

Nice write up by the OP.
But 2 days ago I watched on TV here in Canada where they gave out live statistics about pornography and America was top. This is a position they've held consistently for about a decade now. The documentary was actually on why the middle east ranked second after North America, despite their religious inclination.

I'd suggest we adopt a position like they do in Canada where a teenager or a minor is not allowed to own a phone with data.
Children may be allowed access to the Internet but with strict restriction.

Then the parents factor - as a father I owe it a duty to educate my children on sex matters. Though my kids are very young, I've already started. My children will not learn such from outside because there is the risk of learning the wrong things.
May God help us!

I challenge the OP or the source to bring out the same statistic for countries like France, USA and so on, you would be shocked to find out that the more advanced the country is, the higher the Data. I don't know about the OP but common sense would tell you that there are more porn watchers in the USA than Nigeria. Simple fact: There are more people with laptops and phones in the USA than Nigeria, the internet connection is also a lot faster. Now mix that with a society where outing one's sexuality is often encouraged and what you'll have is a very perverted society.

Look at the bold part of the quote above and let it be the premise of this discussion. The statistic is based on relativity to other searches from the same country. Could this high ratio be due to the fact that majority of Nigerians hardly make use of Google search? Could it be that we have more people focused on social media than actually looking for answers on the net or could it be that as a society we are still naive in regards to what homosexuality and pornography means and the only way to educate ourselves is to search for answers on the internet? Anyway anyhow, the statistic is skewed and there's no cause for alarm, Nigeria still remains one of the more cultured countries in the world and certainly not as wayward as the more advanced countries out there!

I tend to agree with this OP. So many "Religious" Nigerians consume porn even more than we the non-religious. Also the descent into poverty has brought about this attitude of make money at all cost.

People that previously looked down on prostitution now are "runs" girls and also we have gigolos within our men.

The steady economic decline has also encouraged a free for all attitude. After the dirty deeds are done at work, or school, or in the home - off to church to pray it all away. grin
