The bitter truth is that just few of those that aspire to become medical doctors eventually become doctors. I remember my secondary school, almost all science students had focus to study medicine, only two of us made it.
Have an alternative course on ur mind, if medicine proves too stubborn to grab, opt for the other. Its all about passion, make urself like anything u do even u never planned to venture into it, nd u will flourish in d profession.
All disciplines have their uniqueness...

boss let me add this. Who is a dentist. Is a dentist not a surgeon already.do you knw what it take to be an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.most people are jst so myopic. The veracity is this both dental doctor and medical doctor are highly paid.

Lol. Wrong. Haven't you heard of the NDA? Nigerian Dental Association. Medical students doesn't include all specialty in medicine as you said. Dentistry is a discipline on its own, hence the distinction between it and Medicine.
it seem obvious to me now that most medical student dnt even knw the meaning of medicine. Medicine include anatomy ,physio, dentistry, medical lab etc. Is jst that this various discipline of medicine become advance and with time also have speciaty. So it is due to the advancement. Not that they are not medical discipline . Pls halt the blunder.

they are under NMDC (Nigeria medical and dental council) for both dentistry and medicine. NMA and NDA is just an association

U dont like comparing yet u came onto a platform meant for discussing medicine and claimed dentists are richer and more successful. That's very childish.
Besides, oral surgeries more than 300k, that's very very much o, isn't it?
Especially for d acclaimed highest paid profession in d US!!!!!

Arguing about who gets more pay is not the reason for this thread. This thread has been largely derailed. No more academics, no more inspiration. This days, its insults, name calling and beer-parlour arguments. Really, medical and dental students arguing about who's profession is more important. We need to get this thread back on its feet please.

open heart surgery kor open mouth surgery ni. So if u av someone who urgently need heart surgery operation wld u advicr such to do it in Nigeria. Infact many of them wld prefer to go to abroad and india for such operation. If u specialise in such operation in Nigeria I doubt if u will see a single operation to perform for ten years. And if u decide to go practise ur profession in abroad, racism wld set in. As an average white man wld never allow a black to carry out such operation on him. I want to assure u dat dentistry is still the most patronise surgery in this country. Come to Oau dental hospital and see fot urself. Patients with swollen tongue, mouth etc coming to

because a fracture in d face will need a titanium gold to fix. Cos that's d only blood compatible metal we have. Go and ask the cost of titanium metal. Then come back and tell me. Funny enough insurance in USA usually cover for surgeries in medicine but does not in dentistry, so you as a dentist can tax your patient any way you please

Up to 30 open heart surgery were carried out in Nigeria in the past two month... 12 was recently done @ the national hospital.

It's always:
Medicine Vs Dentistry
Medicine Vs Nursing
Medicine Vs Pharmacy
Medicine Vs Medical lab science
Medicine Vs Physiotherapy
Medicine Vs etc
But never:
Dentistry Vs Nursing
Nursing Vs Medical lab science
Pharmacy Vs Dentistry
Sometimes, I wonder the sin we have committed. Can't they just let us be? Nawa o.

dentistry hardly argue but the ignorant once in medicine thinks medicine is the peak in college of Medicine which is absolutely wrong cos dentistry entails medicine and dentistry, I don't blame them most of them don't have d school of dentistry in their school so they have no idea until they start working. If anyone is to brag is those that do the most work in school. You need to know d number of exams you write in dentistry 300/400 level to medicine 300/400 to know how ambiguous it is,. Medical student writes 3 exams dental student writes 6 in which the 3 medical student writes it's included.

Dentistry with their own story, pharmacy with their own story, nursing with their own story, medical lab science with their own story. If medicine is not d peak, then why do they all want to be seen as equal to medical doctors?A nurse doesn't want to be equal to a dentist but to a doctor, a pharmacist doesn't want to be equal to a dentist but to a doctor, a med lab scientist doesn't want to be equal to a dentist but to a doctor, even the dentist himself, wants to be equal to a doctor. I've never seen a medical doctor start an unnecessary comparism between himself and a dentist, nurse or a med lab scientist. But everyday all u guys do is to compare urself with us and u still say we're not d peak.
Well, no problem.

30 peere. By who?Oh u say National hospital. hahhaha. Thank God it not private hospital.because a private man cannot afford to have such a surgical equipment. Meaning it wld be extremely difficult for a person to set up an heart surgical hospital (except if u want to loose) unlike dentistry. The surgical operation wld av to be carried by the government and subsidized with part of the money generated going to the government treasury. Unlike dent where u wld be incharge of ur business.
