They are talking because they don't know the criteria.
LOL And you're talking as if you know the criteria.

BBC Arabic
BBC Russian
BBC Persian
BBC Swahili
BBC Yoruba
BBC Hausa

grin

And I'd rather Yoruba survive than English in Yorubaland wink

People will always speak the indigenous Language of the place they grew up in. Don't you know that the Yorubas and Hausas that grew up in Igbo land speak Igbo Language better than some Igbo people? This is not something to brag with now. Can you guys just stop this!
How many Yorubas and Hausas grow up in Igboland compared to igbos in the North and South West? Lest face reality. it's like night and day.
Re: BBC To Launch Pidgin And Yoruba Service by Nobody: 11:07pm On Nov 23, 2015
Listen, it's a shame that your measure of literacy is dependent on how well you speak another man's language. If Yoruba language has truly been added to BBC service, it's a good thing and I will advocate for Igbo language to be added too, 'cus that is one of the ways to establish your language as a major international language.
Obiagu1:
Igbo can only be added when we become as illiterate as the Hausa and Yoruba.

or if we get Biafra and Igbo becomes an official language.

If they broadcast in Igbo, would you listen to it?
How many Igbo language movies have you watched?
Or do you think the British are dumb?

If you want your language to become international, get Biafra and make Igbo an official language.
As of now, we are English speakers.

So many Yorubas and Hausas/Fulanis have grown up in Igbo land. Why on earth do you think it's only ndị Igbo that migrate to other people's lands? You need to change your thinking brother.

I'm being serious. Ask them to speak Igbo and they either say they can't or struggle. Yet they can speak Yoruba/Hausa fluently and do so at will. Especially in Lagos. Igbos will speak Yoruba like they're descendants of the place.
I think you're exaggerating. No, actually, I know you're exaggerating because the stereotype is even that an avaerage Igbo can't speak Englis without adding Igbo.

IlekeHD:
Actually this is a victory over Igbo's dying language.

Igbo is restricted to SE Nigeria, and even then, they've acculturated themselves with pidgin and Yoruba language.

Yoruba is not only spoken in English, it's even being taught in USA/Europe, so why should BBC ignore Yoruba?

Tell me why igbo people are crying on BBCAfrica about not having BBCIgbo? grin grin
Does it remove Omo Nile and owo mi da in Yoruba land

Then they must be illiterates...according to Obiaju1 grin grin

The measure of literacy to an igbo slave is the ability to speak English/Native language. cheesy cheesy

The Chinese people must be illiterate.
Re: BBC To Launch Pidgin And Yoruba Service by Nobody: 11:15pm On Nov 23, 2015
You probably take more pride in English, well I don't. And as for how many Igbo movies I've watched, they are so many of them that I've even lost count. If there's BBC Igbo service, I'll definitely listen to it & I am sure there are so many others like me.

I'm not exaggerating one bit. infact I'm taking it easy. Igbos I know act like they don't even know Igbo. Maybe they don't. But they can speak Yoruba/Hausa at the drop of a hat. Maybe you don't want to believe what I'm saying but it's the truth.

This is not the case. This is not true. If you're talking about middle class kids they usually know Igbo or just speak English. You might even be mistaken some other eastern groups for Igbo.

Good for you.
Well, the British will not waste money to transmit in Igbo when more than 85% Igbos understand English.

By the way, I don't take pride in English language one bit, as far as I am concerned, Igbo should be an official language in Igboland.

Who watched them? You Igbos prefer English Nollywood. You don't respect your own language. Us Yoruba have our own movie industry with our own language. It might not be as big as ENGLISH SPEAKING Nollywood but it's still our own and we support it. Igbo language speaking movies? Please

English speaking Nollywood is like 20% Igbo. That's why you guys know all these little words. Nollywood is like a Trojan horse for the Igbo language. Ask Kenyans.

You won't believe it but Youth corpers from other parts of the country struggle to teach in most secondary schools in Yorubaland because of the inability of the students to understand english language.
Now add millions of touts that didn't go to school, then you'll get the sense of how grave the situation is in Yorubaland.
