True, some require FG permission like extension of railway lines, but others like power plants and steel making factories requires less permission.
However, having a clear picture of what is required and the obstacle does let people see exactly what the obstacles are chiefly, over centralization of every authority at the federal level and micro-managing Nigeria from Abuja. Which has made things too cumbersome and unworkable.
That is why Nigeria has to be restructured.
as for steel plants read this

problem is most of these suggestions are under the exclusive list...cant do jack without the permission of fg

^^^When one talks of Nigerian political-economy being configured to our disadvantage this is exactly what i mean! It's configured so we're all tied -by fire or by force- to each other, and we're all forced to move at the pace of the slowest unit!

It's like that with roads, electricity, oil and gas, aviation, ports, etc! And what then happens in this evil enterprise is that it's easy for anyone in control of the center to frustrate our developmental efforts (normally done by stealth) while they corner everything to their own regions! Whether it's the right business decision or location for the project or not.... they couldn't give two fuc/ks!!!

Was watching the National Geographic channel the other day, and the programme was on the Panama Canal....how it was conceived, built and plans afoot to expand it to be able to take the biggest ships in the world!

It occurred to me that if those engineers, having been faced with the bigger challenge of the Panama Canal, were presented with Obuaku (to deepen and expand its waterway to the Atlantic so as to accommodate ocean-going vessels), the engineers would wonder what all the fuss was about and why Nigerian engineers can't handle such a basic project!

If i find the programme on YouTube i'll post it here for all to see!

southeast economic summit comes to mind. Pitifully, our leaders, governors are too busy scanting for FG peanut cum allocation when they should be looking inwards for revenue generation.

This is one thing I have seen saying, we need economic summit in the east and lets forge a way towards economic freedom and prosperity. we always look the other way when we need to do some things in this country.

let everyone come together and lets fashion a way out of this economic downturn in this country, so that we will not be caught in the struggle.

our distance from the sea is not a problem for engineers. this is one thing our governors and top guns have refused to think. obuaku and onitsha seaport should not be a problem. i just doubt that these people really want to do something about economic revolution of the region.

Regional Integration has always been talked about, but never implemented. See our vehicle for regional integration here: http://www.senec.org.ng/senec/index.php
http://www.senec.org.ng/senec/index.php/news/36-news-events/57-imperative-of-south-east-nigeria-economic-commission-senec

Our problem in nigeria isn't a lack of ideas, but we don't implement anything.
The need for a close regional integration led to the SENDEF launching last year headed by Dr. paschal Dozie to source funds for specific key projects. i don't even think they have held any meetings since then! .http://allafrica.com/stories/201411150084.html

We should pursue 3 Agenda;
--1.They should pursue the SENDEF dream they launched last year to pursue precisely what you are saying and secure funding for key regional infrastructure projects.

--2. Develop railway network in the zone.Extend a line from Enugu to Onitsha and another from Enugu - Abakaliki. The FG under Buhari APC won't do it, but we can get individuals to invest and charge toll fee.

--3. Develop the Coal Industry by creating industries using our coal for power generation and steel production etc. Develop the oil and gas sector by creating industries to use the product. Again, the FG under Buhari won't do it, so we need our entrepreneurs to lead the initiative. The way Dangote is investing in refineries and power plants in the north.
We can approach the world bank or AfDB for assistance with the infrastructure funding

South Africa still use their coal powered steam engine train to transport people and goods across that great country. The cross country train ride is also one great tourist attraction in South Africa.

Just imagine if we had a cargo & passenger train with this number of coaches carrying all the agricultural produce, yams, livestock, tomatoes, industrial raw materials etc from the Abakaliki to Onitsha and when its going back, it hauls all the petrol, imported goods etc back. Each of these coaches in the size of one 18 wheeler trailer truck. Imagine how many 18 wheelers were taken off the South African roads just by this single trip. Also a line from PH ONNE seaport to Onitsha via Enugu can haul all the goods from that seaport directly to Onitsha if we extended the present Enugu-PH railway line to reach Onitsha and Abakaliki.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duOWTl7el0g

The second use of the SA rail system is tourism and basic transportation of people around the country.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmjJ4Lzb4oU

My brother, this is what i am saying o!

we need a seaport and from the port, we will have rails running through all the igbo states so that we can keep the integrity of our roads intact. the beautiful thing about the south east is that the different states are not really far from each other, that means it will not cost too much to make it happen.

some european banks and chinese investors are looking for places to invest and we need to show them that if they can partner with the southeast to dredge the rivers and create a railway, they will collect tolls for the next 20years. this toll will be shared between the region and them and with a 4 percent interest rate.

it is important we look ahead of this slow country and fashion a way towards economic survival before surviving becomes difficult.

the truth is that we need to develop a steel making plant, a crude oil refinery and develop our coal industry. these are three smart investment destination the igbos should put into consideration. this will in no time take the region to an upward surge.

Voted... I think she needs more...
When I voted her today. Her total vote count was 352 or there about.
For me that's very poor...
May be she hasn't got the much publication she needed yet.
I think she needs more publicity.

I do not think we can afford such luxury at this austere time IMO.

Women Need Empowerment to act as true Catalysts for Development – Mrs. Obiano

The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano has said that women need empowerment in the form of education and life sustaining skills to enable them act as true catalysts for the future.

Mrs. Obiano stated this in her contribution during a Round Table panel discussion on the theme: The Women Entrepreneurship as the Torch of the future “are Women the Catalyst for Emerging Future?” at the Women Entrepreneurship Forum Dubai 2015 which ended over the weekend.

Mrs. Obiano observed that women are catalysts because by their nature add spice to life and ensure effective functioning of the society. In other words, societies may not function effectively without the inputs of women because it would lack the quality inputs of the woman whether as advice in the family or role in the larger society.

However, a woman according to Mrs. Obiano, “must be adequately equipped with certain qualities to be able to play her role effectively. A woman needs education and also life sustaining skills to earn a living and be able to add value to others. Any woman with these qualities is then prepared to face life and is able to add value, advise the husband and contribute her quota to improve the society.”

Mrs. Obiano who is the founder and promoter of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ), an NGO with a mandate for women empowerment, care for less privileged, uplift indigent widows, orphans, vulnerable children and persons with disabilities amongst others; recounted personal experience to buttress her points on the imperative of women empowerment. She highlighted her involvement in active charity works since 1991 and the expansion of her scope activities with the founding of CAFE in August 2014.

Some of the women empowerment programmes undertaken by Mrs. include; skills acquisition training in tailoring, hair dressing and beauty therapy, confectionaries and cake making and agricultural skills etc. She also enunciated plans to partner with other groups to train more women on modern skills that would enable them adapt to modern times so as to continue adding values; stressing that ”a well-trained woman is a role model to be emulated by any growing girl-child.”

Earlier, wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Oludolapo Osinbajo, who represented wife of the President at the Round Table, said that women are created as catalysts and that is why they are able to multi-task by doing many things at the same time, and yet are able to create wealth. She advised Nigerian women to try and equip themselves for challenges by improving themselves to be self-reliant. She noted that the seventeen Goals outlined are about every single Nigerian woman, without tribe or religion and that if pursued to conclusion would definitely improve the fortunes of our Nation.

In her Vote of thanks on behalf of the organizers of the event, Forum Chairperson, Hajia Salamatu Umar-Eluma, thanked the wife of the President and Vice President and the wives of the governors of the various states in attendance for taking advantage of the forum to equip themselves for the programmes they are implementing in their NGOs and future. As she put it, “you are all champions of women empowerment. I plead that you go back and begin to enhance the quality of life of the rural women.”

Nice looking flyover no doubt; but each time I look at this flyover i can only think about its limitation. A clover-leaf design would have suited that location the most. The only way that flyover will be fit-for-purpose is to make Ifite Road one-way and do another under pass at 'step' for those of us who are very familiar with the location. How will vehicle coming from Enugu enter Ifite Road, except they are planning to have a Round About to divert and manage the steep turn.

No, you are missing the point maybe because the flyover is complex. There are too exits on the Arroma flyover for those turning right and those turning left. One of the turn-exits connects you directly to the Secretariat road that will equally link you to Ifite road toward Whyte-View, Best Western etc. The flyovers were well thought out and planned for the smooth flow of vehicles and remove traffic entirely from those junctions.
