Once I visited my school (OAU) a friend who studied law in NOUN asked me to confirm if OAU accepts first degree cert from NOUN. He was interested in applying for masters in OUA. To my utmost dismay, I was told that NOUN has not legalised their program, that it's not accredited by NUT. As such, OAU does not accept a cert. from there. And I wonder why a university established by Federal govt. Itself is not accredited.

The truth is they have the best study material ever. Lecturers from conventional universities make use of their study materials. I remember when I had an assignment in school, I researched online and It happened that the result I clicked on was NOUN study material. Believe me, I never got such a rich material from my own school. I even discovered that My lecturer was given us notes from same material verbatim.

Despite all these, the school is not accredited, it's too bad. I think you guys who attend or are attending or have the intention of studying there should fight this so that your labour won't be in vain. In fact, I wanted to shout it out to the whole world on all media I know that NOUN is toying with the future of Nigerian, making people waste their fund.

Take for instance, their law students are yet to go to law school. This makes me believe that they are not accredited. If they were their students will be attending law school just like students from other universities. So trade carefully.

Seriously things like this put fear in my heart. I plan to start my program this next month but i don't know if am to continue. I don't want to waste my time and resources on what will not produce good results.
Have anybody experience things like this again. I mean a situation where conventional universities refuse to accept cert from noun.

The exact reason am quoting you is because you are saying gibberish and creating unnecessary panic and doubts in the mind of student and prospective students.

Noun is an accredited institution. I felt sick when I saw this sentence
"Despite all these, the school is not accredited, it's too bad."

I know people who graduated from Noun and are furthering their studies in Uniben, Delsu etc.My uncle is a living proof. He is a mass comm student. He graduated with a second class upper from Noun got is Masters from Uniben and he is at the moment living comfortable and working with Planet TV.

So for goodness sake this is a public forum and i know you have misinformed more than 1000 guests that have read this your poo your pasted here .

Always remember that Noun is an accredited university and Number 35 in the ranking of Universities in Nigeria according to webometrics. All her courses excluding law is accredited. With a First class, second class upper or second class lower from Noun you can further your education in any Nigerian university.

Have a nice day.

What program do you intend to start at Noun?

Noun is an "On your own" institution. You don't meet any lecturer in their office to grease their palm

Are you financially buoyant?

Can you read, comprehend and interpret a material by yourself ?

take time to contemplate on this questions don't allow any "Rumor Farmer" to plant a seed of Fear in your heart... No conventional university will reject a certificate from Noun unless it is Forged or a third class.

Respectfully, Ma'am, I would advise you to come up with 'Constructive Criticisms' in your subsequent write-up.

Regarding your statement and I quote "NOUN has not legalised their program, that it's not accredited by NUT." One will see how you've been misguided. Reason: NUC (Nigerian Universities Commission) is a commission solely in charge of accreditation and not NUT (Nigeria Union of Teachers).

Ma'am, the National Open University of Nigeria is an accredited Institution and you can quote me anywhere. A friend of mine graduated from NOUN with a Second Class Lower Division (3.41CGPA) and he's currently undergoing his Second Degree at the infamous University of Lagos.

So, I pray you, make a comprehensive and in-depth research about "Anything and/or Something" before posting any kind of baseless, nefarious and ill-fated comments on a public forum.

God Bless!

Ahem....!!

earlier this year...i walked into the massive banking hall of one FCMB branch... i met one fair beautiful young Lady at the counter...her smile towards me was kind of contagious...i smiled back and handed #5000 to her...she counted it...looked up and asked

"is it for open university ??"..

i replied "no"

and further asked.... "are u a student there ?? "

.....she looked up once more with her charming smile and said...

..."...no..am actually a graduate from the Enugu center"

she stamped my teller gave it to me with a wink......and den i left....

that encounter and a lot of research made me enroll into NOUN...nd i dont think anybody enjoys d flexibility more than me...

now dats aside...#

ur story..... ur friend couldnt get admitted there cos law hasn't been accredited yet in NOUN....

ppl do their masters in other universities...so long as the course is accredited by NUC...nd so far... all noun's programmes are accredited except law

to all prospective students out there.....u have nothing to fear here bt ur ability....if u can be a good academic boss to urself and earn while u do...den noun is for u....

i have a lot of benefits to list here bt...dat will be anoda day...or better still u research like i did...at the end...ur school wnt matter...bt what u achieved.......

#i will state a case about this d day am a bit chanced... for now...i can only say for a fact dat what the poster i quoted said is....GIBBERISH

Thanks for throwing more light on the issue. Am starting msc information technology next month. Do we have students who are studying msc info tech in the house. Please let open a thread for msc info tech students so we can share ideas.

Why Our Course Materials Are Open On Internet – NOUN

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) yesterday explained why her academic materials are made available on the internet.

The university said its course materials were openly available on the internet to offer opportunity for people everywhere to share, use, and reuse knowledge.
The university’s Head, Open Educational Resources (OER) Dr Jane-Frances Agbu, made the remarks at the training workshop on OER organized in conjunction with the UNESCO in Abuja. She said the university was funded by the government and its educational materials made available online to enhance instructional innovation and give chance to learners to share best practices free of charge.

She said, “Independent learner who has access to the internet can access material from some of the best universities in the world. OER can promote informal learning where credential is not needed.”

With due respect, this question is beyond our scope/sphere.

It is the responsibility of the Senate of the National Open University of Nigeria to make provision for the organisation and control of courses of study.

This is not totally true. Law program has been accredited in NOUN by NUC.It is the law school that has not done the accreditation. Nursing program got partial accreditation months ago also.

A friend of mine submitted his project just about a week to the convocation day and his name still came out in the convocation list. He got his certificate instantly but there was a spelling error in his name. It took less than a month to correct the problem. They issue result fast. The only thing you need to worry about is its accreditation.

while do you choose PGDE, maybe with your 3rd class Bsc but NOUN offer Master in PUB ADMIN (MPA). i was told then to change my choice to MSC PUB ADMIN instead of my preferred MBA cus i had BSc Sociology.
Go to your nearest SC for clarification.

I went to my proposed SC and was told that with 3rd class I can only further on my major (pub admin). Which I gladly accepted. I went for edu in d first place because my major was not listed on their program I saw online. They processed my admission so I'm waiting for Jan 2016.
