in my opinion take the job offer, but keep your options open and search for others....use it as a platform to gain experience for the short time you'll be there till a better one comes along cuz 30k is too small in the Nigeria we find our self only transport alone with take more than half of the money

The only reason you shouldn't take it is if you have something else to do or your parents are very supportive and help you out while you're searching for a job

but you can't be asking them for money to 'barb hair' or buy 'slippers' so just be a man grab the bull by the BALLS and take the job.

If I were you though I will ask the HR* to convert it to a volunteer job and take even less except for transportation cost.

This may seem foolish,but in the Job market especially established companies seeing on your CV you were once a voluteer especially here in Nigeria where people will rather laze around than volunteer ,you'd be respected and given some form of preference .

Secondly most companies will ask you for your last take home pay ,if you quote 30k you will be viewed as a cheapskate and some companies will want to peg you on just a little above that,which isn't good for your "brand" but if its a volunteer job ,you can even ask for a letter of recommendation that you volunteered and keep it as a sourvenir.......hope you catch the drift

When you reject it and you are job hunting for let's say 5 months you would then realize that 5*30000=150000
150000-50000(expenses) is not a small money at all.
Also not that all these while you can still be job hunting while on the job, from there you go fit buy good cloths and shoes wear go interview when the real on comes up. Money is just a game of numbers.
I recently realized that 1000*1000=1000000, meaning if I have been saving the 1000 naira I have been wasting over my life time I would have become a millionaire earlier than I thought

most folks working in Big coys today were once a biginner! They started somewhere! I read a success story of one of my twitter followers today how he rose from being a mere sales Rep with paultry salary as a Bsc holder as at 2011 but today, within the shortest period of 4yrs or there about, he's now the Head of Operations and National sales manager for SLOT systems (mobile phones). See, let me tell you bluntly, Nigeria isn't a country where you think you can automatically get your career job after school. Most bankers today aren't career bankers by profession! That's a pointer to the fact why you find Geologist, pharmacist lawyers etc working in Banking Halls. I never planned going into marketing or sales coz its far from my Passion! But due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to go into it! With full spirit and gradually, I build a career in it! Till date, I still apply for Higher Roles in same industry! My dear, it only takes the Grace of Almighty God to get something good just after passing out! There's no way you'll tell me that he wount make out time for Interviews! That's a crappy excuse! Even bankers as tight as their job is, still make out time for Job Interviews.

The fact is that 30k salary is not good for a 2:1 student. let us face the truth in this country for once...30k salary doesn't make sense at all BUT since it's Nigeria where mediocrity is the other of the day and where the leaders and the system has no plan for the youth then you may be forced to take up the 30k job or even lower just to survive.

Why is it only in Nigeria where it seems normal for bright graduates to waste away, where they don't value intellectual resources and talents.

Well ensure the experience you gather is one that would help in building your career.

After all its Nigeria and it is normal to have a job that just helps you survive and not live.

so u think say na 2.1 go give u work? Abi salary should be based on degree grade? U funny o serious, better remove that 2.1 mentality for uя head if not u will never get a job 2 do, beside academic qualification is not a way 2 test intelligence... Some pass degrees are far far better than some 1st class in the field. Better forget that 2.1 mentality and work, thousands of uя type can do that job for 20k if they see

1. If it has a bearing with what you studied in school. U garner experience
2. If your cost of transporting/feeding urself does not exceed the salary itself.

Dont Take the job on 2 grounds
1. If it does not have a bearing with what u studied and its a job that requires u

best advice so far ...I stop reading comment at dis junction. op pls consider this advice very well b4u take d offer...as for me ooo I can't imagine taking a sales rep job that pays 30/40k when as I studied petroleum engr n then d location of d job is on d island y I live at egbeda or abule-egba which means I've to spend minimum of 1500daily on tp n feeding. I'm sure I must have ran into debt above my income b4d month gets even half.

The salary is low, agreed. However, do not get carried away with your 2.1. 2.1 only shows your have the capacity to learn and understand in school and also a level of discipline. You are yet to prove you have added value to any project or task before.

If you have told us what and what you bring to the table and how you add value, experienced guys will be in a better position tell you to reject the offer. Right now, you are just an intern.

Think value not grades.

A lot of people are not after a job that is aligned with their career, provided it. Pays well and it put food on their tablem what if the guy read Yoruba in school and he got o banking job, will u advise him not to accept the job. Cos it is not aligned with his career?

I doubt this amount will be enough for his monthly upkeep, this is why a lot of workers are desperate to engage in illicit activities and dishonesty at work.

If it doesn't pay your monthly expense, don't take it. It is modern day slavery.
