The OP never said 100% Igbo natives, the reason is not far fetched, Igbo are industrious and most other people think that their chancea of competing with them in their native home is slim. But the fact is the few ones who dare have made a great fortune for themselves. I know some few lines in main market Onitsha that are dominated by Hauses, they started with little or nothing but today they are millionaires |

christopher123: You can expand from lagos to big population centers like Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Akure, Ilorin and Abeokuta. Before you even consider other regions of the country. You also minimize expansion cost and shared costs by working out of one region, it's only when you exhaust those then you head to PH, Kano, Abuja and Kaduna before you consider the SE. 2 Likes |

OP travel and see....i am presently in Umuahia and the place i normally watch football is dominated by Hausas, their mosque is just beside the viewing center....go to Okigwe or Umunneochi u will think you are in Kano. If you talk about other tribes not dominating the east, you might be right...but there are a huge amount of Hausas in the SE than the whole SW. |

bettercreature:that true.......aggressive and too blunt.......but that's their nature.......but it depends on what defines their aggression......every tribe has what it shows its aggression for......when it comes to material things to achieve or being successful, the igbo man is aggressive......when you mention biafra, the yoruba man and hausa man turns aggressive!! When you stop paying militants, the ijaw man turns aggressive!! When you say lagos is no mans land the yoruba man turns aggressive!! When you mistakenly touch a Koran, the northern muslim becomes aggressive.....and I would be sorry for anyone who falls into that last category on the receiving end!! |

@Op, I think your point is valid but unfortunately, many especially the indigenes of that region may not see the point you are trying to make. If I may say this, although it might appear a little weird but true. The mode of communication between the indigenes and non-indigenes within the eastern states might be one of the reasons. I say this because I happened to school in the east and each time I approached a potential indigene be it at school, the market place or the bank and asked a simple question expressing myself in English, I got a reply from them in their native language! This got me worried most of the time. Now, I'm not saying you don't speak your native languages to your folks but most definitely not to people you don't know or those you are meeting for the first time. I actually replied a guy once in my native language once he had a conversation with me in his Igbo language and he later replied that he doesn't understand what I was saying and I said to him neither do I understand what he was saying. So as minute as this argument might seem, it might be one of the reason non-indigenes shy away from settling in the eastern states. I stand to be corrected though! 2 Likes 2 Shares |

iamkeyz:Briefly Igbos are Republican, Democratic and highly competitive in nature, they settle in nucreated, linear and compact settlement. See below: A good example of non-centralized societies is provided by the Igbo, who were divided into many patrilineal clans, each with its own founding ancestor. Hundreds of villages existed, not as members of one Igbo kingdom, but as autonomous units, each with its own government. In a typical Igbo village, there was a Council of Elders (the ama-ala) comprising heads of different families and a village assembly where the majority of the public was allowed to engage in free speech and be involved in decision making. The administration of justice was democratic as elders and citizens discussed offenses and the nature of the punishment to be meted out. A secret society carried out a number of law-related activities, while an age-grade association took charge of public works. Providing a measure of unity to many villages, people worshipped similar gods and recognized the authority of a powerful oracle. |

hogwash if you have not lived in the core north where 'ba turanchi' is the order of the day when you speak English yet it did not stop igbos from living there[/quote] Now u don't need to be harsh with words to pass a point. I only spoke from the experience I had while living in the east. If I might draw from your assertion, it might simply buttress the reason why you find more of the Igbos and the Hausas living more amongst themselves because they are guilty of such occurrences. 1 Like |
