Class Upper division 4.37 of 5.0), with also a diploma in Computer

Since I finished my NYSC in October 2015 there is no opportunity

Engineering, basic piping fundamental and layout development.

sometimes, most of you with this kinda rare knowledge amaze me, whatever happens with you having your own computer center?...you can rent a semi small shop and start sometin, all u need is just a lil capital.

I am a proud holder of both BSc nd HND.
There s no denial in the profound discrimination btw the two certificates.
I will advice if anybody has the chance to go for BSc tru JAMB or tru DE immediately after OND, such a person shud nt hesitate to do so.

I don't think it should be phased out. Then we would have shortage of mid-level skilled man power in Nigeria. As usual, companies like P&G, Nigeria breweries, Mobil e.t.c would then need to bring philipinos, chinese e.t.c for technical jobs that an ond or hnd grad would have easily been able to do.
There are also still people out there that prefers hands-on learning to theoretical learning. The solution is that people should go for what interests them, and not thinking of hnd as a 2nd option after failing uni jamb.

I can't imagine a country like Canada surviving without their polytechnics and colleges.

That's true. It's good to have that in mind. Though the discrimination is relatively low in the engineering sector.

This Post would have been useful for me... But I'm now a FUTARIAN after my ND programme from FedPolyAdo.... No, I started from 100level immediately after my ND , The DE processing wasn't pure, but thank God I sat for Jamb in my ND2... Considering the last point up there "You have to compete with many 'Bsc' holders"
It made me not to opt for HND.. Anyway, all is well.. Alubarika ni Koko!!!

I was once offered admission to study foresty... In uniuyo.... I rejected d offer to complete my HND..... Irrespective of d ish..... I do wat I have passion for.... Not just because of BSc desperation... U have to do a toilet course

discrimination dey or not I still prefer poly more than uni.the reason why is because poly teach there student both practical an d theory but for uni dey normally teach there student theory unless when dey want to do IT ,they will now tell them to go and practice. my experience is when I went to my brother company then they want to employ people they done theory interview for them but when they get to practical because the work is deal with elect to my surprised most bsc holder fail but when they asked them they said they don't usually do practical when they are in school and the company employed those with practical experience that's what boost me to like poly uni just get name ni

Point 6. Only HND in accounting and Engineering (so called proffessional courses) are of value in FGN civil service. Any other course is placed on same level with NCE i.e GL07 on first appointment while the above mentioned courses settle at GL08.


Point 7. HND is not equivalent with BSC. Not in naija at least. The news and noise goes on and on.


Point 8. Those who go for HND after their NCE only end up regretting. For sooner they may wake to a Nigeria where their NCE is a higher qualification than HND.

The Grade Point Average GPA for ND/HND ends at 4.0, there's nothing like 4.10 bros.
2.00 - 2.49 - Pass
2.50 - 2.99 - Lower Credit
3.00 - 3.49 - Upper Credit
3.50 - 4.00 - Distinction
ND with Upper Credit/Distinction are admitted to 200 Level in the university, most Federal Universities don't consider Lower credit, I think some state/private universities do.

HND holder is always a step lower in rank than Bsc holder

To all National diploma out there that wish to further their education to the hnd level, we have some important point that may be useful to you.

Point 1: Course selection The course you study in ND must also be the same course you must apply for in HND level.
If you study banking, you cannot change to business admin in your Hnd Level.
You will need to continue building on the foundation you have laid from ND1


Point 2: Academic Transcript : you need to be informed that your Transcript will be required before you can be considered for Admission and it's always advisable to include it in the period of the registration.


Point 3: Duration: HND programme will take 4 semester and 2 years for all courses.


Point 4: HND Conversion to Bsc : After completing your hnd programme, you can convert your result bsc by enrolling in a 2 years programme offered by some university.


Point 5: JOB : Despite the economic hardship and increasing unemployment, there are many jobs out there open to Hnd graduates and you can always compete with BSC holder.

it depends on the poly. I know of a poly that uses 5points so he is right.

yes now, direct entry to 200 level provided the candidate makes upper credit, however, I learnt that some state/ private universities admits lower credit candidates

Nice one op. i am a product of the two systems HND & BSC and i can categorically state the difference. HND is good just like BSC if you really know what you are doing. As per conversion from HND to BSC, please if age is not on your side, weigh your options, it takes time but if you woud'nt mind or u have a regular sponsor you can go for it. if you are to settle with HND, please at least have a good grade at least upper credit with practical experience. after school , learn a skill in line with your chosen field. Engineering students will understand. Good Luck. I see many HND graduates better than BSC in terms of skill acquisition and all.

Next time learn to read before posting. The MB you used in typing this long b**shiit would have been used for better purposes if you had just spared a few mins to read through the OP's post.
