Sure we are, all the photos of Nigeria's participation in the 2015 edition of this exercise are in this thread. Unfortunately there isn't quite as much media coverage this year.
thanks, I knew we were there last year. I was wondering if any of you guys could make a list of African countries, where they've served as peacekeepers and where they are still serving as peacekeepers

Nigerian Army to Increase Personnel Strength to 200,000

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Buratai, has disclosed that the army will embark on an ambitious expansion programme to address the manpower needs of the force to respond appropriately to contemporary threats to national security.

To this effect, Buratai said the army planned to increase its personnel strength from its present 100,000 to slightly above 200,000 in the next eight years.

The COAS, while delivering a lecture titled: ‘Nigerian Army: Challenges and Future Perspectives,’ at the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, added that 12,000 personnel would be recruited in 2016 alone to fill the vacancies created as a result of the new establishments in the army.

Lol.

I expect the size of the Navy too to increase soon. That's when Navy start buying frigate, corvette, etc.
The size of Nigerian Navy is currently around 15,000

Sure we are. The Nigerian Army has a strength of only 97,000 men, this is inadequate for a country of 177 million people.

There's going to be a systematic year-in increase of military strength across the Army, Navy and Air force.

US resumes training of Nigerian troops for anti-terror war

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/198338-us-resumes-training-nigerian-troops-anti-terror-war.html

Nigerian army has one of the biggest wealth of COIN training in the world today. They have collected skills and knowledge from all over the world into one army, war tactics and strategies plus skills from national armies of USA, Britain, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Belarus, South African PMC, Israeli, PMC, now requesting same from armies of Brazil and Colombia to add knowlwdge to knowledge plus their own local experience with Boko Haram for 6 years. I think we should share these capabilities with our fellow African armies' COIN regiments for brotherly countries who are not blinded by unprofitable ego.

counter insurgency isn't a football match as politicians assume results can be achieved within a month, western armed forces are the most elitist when it comes to counter-insurgency .they have turn it into a science.most african armed forces are in such poor state to engage in counter insurgency, that i fear the future looks terrible .if we dont reverse state of militaries .the islamic jihadist insurgency is another beast ,can't compare with local rebellions we are used to.if elite african soldiers can't deal with terrorist who have barricaded themselves in a building to hours, there is a problem

You don't get my point.
NONE of these western countries have ever been successful in counterinsurgency wars whether you think they have turned it into a science or not.

My point is that we should be working and training with people who have actually been successful in counterinsurgency-
Like Russia in chechnya
Algeria
Sri lanka
etc

This is not about Close Quarters Battle training in enclosed spaces

to this day in chechya from road side bombs, assasinations, ambushes are still happening ,the same in algeria ,troops are ambushed just several kilometers from Algiers capital http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-33583615.the only reason they may look as successful is the policies carried by security agencies like extra judicial killings, torture, detentions, disappearance e.t.c with the approval of the government.

this is what russians do when terrorists barricade themselves in a building, they never leave the building standing

I see you conveniently left out sri lanka in your analysis.

No matter how you look at it, srilanka, russia and algeria have been far more successful in counterinsurgency than ANY western military...FACT

Thatz my last word on the matter. You are free to believe what you want.

If you consult the pic Afrikan posted,

The Italians are running training in basic soldiering.

Trust me, COIN training does not involve a course on how to hit a target that is 10m away

I agree with Rugged7, the Italians are in no position whatsoever to train the Senegalese. The Italians are not particularly good soldiers by the way.

Basic soldiering isn't COIN.
