Is there any possibility of paying for GRE apart from the normal debit card. Like through CBN form A, because this dollar rate is something else. I wasn't ready to write this GRE last year when naira to dollar was around 200 when I would ve paid 40k. Choi double the money now..almost 80k |

Check this out from a Facebook post.... Hello fellow Magooshers, this is my first post and would appreciate some feedback/grading on a sample AWA issue essay I wrote. I have posted the entire essay here and also attached it as a Word Doc file to be read. If you would like me to return the favor, please message me. Thanks! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed.” Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Should educational institutions be the gatekeepers in deciding what their students should study? Indisputably, academic counselors exist to help guide students on their ‘ideal’ career pathway. Given this, no educational exists that can predict a student’s potential to succeed with absolute certainty. ‘Success’ can be interpreted in various ways, and may not always translate into financial wealth. Thus, I would argue that students should not be discouraged by academic systems to study a certain discipline they feel passionate about, whether they show initial promise or not. A plethora of famous individuals have struggled to find immediate success in their fields of study: Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Thomas Edison, and Albert Einstein are prime examples of influential figures who all struggled early in their career to find any success. Had they each been disheartened and abandoned their vocation prematurely, the ramifications in the world of science and art would be incomprehensible. As such, students should not be swayed by universities to forsake their academic goals due to initial missteps or failed courses. Doing so would not only inhibit their personal growth, but would also run the risk of depleting the science and art community of significant contributions and breakthroughs. Furthermore, success must be defined beyond the scope of financial gain– a concept most universities would mainly attribute to a successful career. In contrast, success can be attained through the legacy of significant work an individual leaves behind. Vincent Van Gogh lived most of his adult life in penury, selling only one painting while he was alive. Today he is considered to be one of the most influential post-impressionist, whose artwork continues to reverberate in our artistic community. But one does not need to look at renowned artists for examples – there are those today who contribute to society with little or no remuneration in mind. School teachers, social workers and community volunteers are all but a few examples of professionals who are successful in their mission of service to others. It is true, of course, that students who face difficulty in their studies should be adequately counseled. This would be especially true in students who exhibit a pattern of failed attempts in a certain subject. However, even this scenario does not mean counselors have the right in sending a message of inevitable failure to these students. If Albert Einstein had taken the recommendation of a counselor who told him he would only do well in a trade school, the world of science would be without his groundbreaking and revolutionary contributions; gravity would not have been given meaning as it is now known, nuclear power would not have been realized during WWII, and the Nobel Prize would never have been awarded to him. In conclusion, although academic counselors should always be present to help their students, they should not discourage them in their academic pursuits simply because success is not always imminent. It is impossible for any institution to predict the success of a person, let alone students in their midst of self-discovery. Additionally, success should not only be defined by financial terms, as it has been accustomed to be known; it comes in many forms, and may prove to be elusive in the beginning for many. Instead of placing an emphasis on pursuing financial success, educational institutions would do well to encourage their students to study whatever they feel most passionate about. An adopted mindset like this would be a better indicator of their future success. |
