Why he is concerned about new roads when the existing ones are not motorable is puzzling but technically he is right. But I agree existing roads should be his focus not new roads. Maybe he's be wrongly breifed
We shouldn't be looking at the technicalities but the crude and naked realities on the ground. The reality is that the GEJ govt met our federal roads in very poor shape. Its concern becomes to fix the roads before new ones (if ever they are needed) could be built. I don't see why not building an 'entirely new road' should be an issue to a govt that hasn't awarded a single contract almost 10 months in office.

Those roads particularly the Benin-Ore road drank the blood during OBJ's time. I remember when Diezani Allison-Madueke as minister of works under OBJ wept on seeing the condition of that road without her principal doing anything. Do I need to remind you that GEJ fixed the road?

Deziani or did you mean to say Kema Chikwe, there is not glorying OBJ here the subject of discussion is the failure or GEJ and his boss Yar'adua

Yeaa Kema Chikwe my bad.
I had to bring the issue up to show you how useless it's building new roads when the ones you already have are in terrible, terrible condition.
May I ask you please, where do you think a new road should have been built?

SMH .. So all these comments are coming from some graduates, what a shame, someone even made a very dumb af point by saying extra lanes are NEW roads, no wonder we are so easily deceived, illiteracy even among the educated is really so high in Nigeria, No NEW Roads were built not repaired or patched, a brand new road like what Fashola built linking Ikoyi to Lekki Phase 1... The VP has a point, why are most of u so silly and senseless as to easily come out and insult your Vice President, I understand the APC, PDP thing but insulting and embarrassing your VP and President all over social media with low level of grasping information and thinking..

But Fashola said Gej built more roads than any other government

Let's assume Osinbajo is right, where should the new roads lead to ? In a place like Ikoyi for instance, there's no room for new roads. You don't just build roads for building sake, new roads are built when there is expansion of industries and homes for easy access.

This is the intention of the OP and Nairaland MOD that brought it to front page. They deliberately removed the "new" in the heading.

Do they know what it takes to build an entirely new road ?

Osinbajo should be smart enough this. If roads are to be built, where will they lead to ? I can tell you that New York city don't just build new roads like that .
Re: Osinbajo: GEJ, Yar’adua Didn’t Build A Single Road. The Cable. by theDEVILisHERE: 12:09am On Feb 27, 2016
Longeria:
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday said that the federal government did not build “a single new road” in the last 10 years.

The late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan presided over the country within that period.

Speaking at the pastors and leaders retreat of the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, Osinbajo said corruption in the country was not caused because by a few individuals, but that the entire system was built around lack of integrity.

He expressed confidence that the country would be great again but noted that the foundation for the greatness had to be laid with a lot of pains.

“Unless we tackle graft, we may not be able to achieve something,” he said.

“The federal government in the past 10 years could not build a single new road, not repairing existing ones alone.

“Now we have a president who will not steal money and who will not allow anybody to steal money.”

Commenting on the N6 billion that the last administration spent on a new residence for the vice-president, he said Aguda House, the current official residence, is up to standard with enough space.

He said the present administration would complete it but consider putting it to other use.

“There is no need for a new vice-president’s house; it is a kind of waste; we are now in a situation where we cannot abandon it; it has to be completed and used for a different thing,” he said.

Osinbajo also spoke on the controversy surrounding the State House Medical Centre, which he said was not only for workers at the state house.

He said it is a general hospital with a lot of facilities that serves all Nigerians, adding that he would prefer that it be further equipped to provide higher medical services to those in need.

Osinbajo debunked insinuation of lack of data in the country, saying that the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics had enormous which had been rated highly by the World Bank and other international agencies.

He said the intention of government was to aggregate the scattered data in INEC, CBN, National Population Census Commission into one by the National Identity Card Management Commission.

Osinbajo also said the education sector lacked not only standards but adequacy of institutions, which has forced Nigerians into sponsoring their children abroad for tertiary education.

He explained that while 1.8 million Nigerians sat for university entrance examination yearly, only about 300,000 were offered admission due to a dearth of universities.

The vice-president revealed plans of the government to convert many of the existing universities into centres of excellence and support the private sector in the running of universities to enable more Nigerians to have access to tertiary education.

Before responding to questions, Osinbajo said that what the country needs is truth and integrity, which the church should spearhead.

“The church is where the truth is; the church has the answer to the nation’s problems; one of the problems of our society is integrity,” he said.

“Nigeria lacks the capacity to get things done, which is difficult to understand, but with God on our side, our country will set the pace for Africa”.

“Our people are ready to do it and they can do it but they are waiting for the right kind of leadership. I know why you are praying for us, and it is because you know that this is a good opportunity to get it right and we don’t want to miss this chance.”

Taiwo Odukoya, senior pastor of the church, asked Christians to continue to pray for the administration as Nigeria has a great future.

Okay, you do know the difference between a new road and a reconstructed road, or updated road.

Another aspect to examine is the ideao that both Yar'adua and GEKt only executed projects and contracts OBJ had signed and therefore cannot lay claim to it.

OBJ had alluded to this same fact more than once in the past makes it a somewhat valid fact

VP should stop playing with words to confuse the people like Buhari 2.2trillion 'mopping up'.

Is the problem of Nigeria insufficient number of roads, or the fact that many existing roads aren't of standard quality or even motorable?

Are you aware that in some cases, it costs more to rehabilitate some roads than brand new construction of road, especially in cases where the 'expired' coal tar has to be scraped off, and the road completely tarred again?

What of the numerous roads dualized by GEJ's government? Didn't they involve construction of brand new roads/carriages?

Must you defend every rubbish done or said by this pathetic government?

A good road he should have completed is the second Niger bridge, which he managed to use to hoodwink the East into unflinching support
governance is continuity; even if a government is given 50years,they cannot do everything. Since gej could not complete it,then this government should .Rather than sit their ass down and work, they are there complaining of the past government, taking us backwards, and some persons will come here and be saying rubbish .
