The Crazy Experience Of A Bank Contract Staff by Nobody: 6:50am On Mar 04, 2016
I resumed as a contract staff of a bank early last month, every one was happy for me (having waited for over two years before getting a real job). They all thanked God on my behalf. I was eventually posted to the contact centre of the bank located somewhere in ilupeju. my first one week on the job opened my eyes to the real definition of slavery. people work like crazy, targets have to be met, and there's no closing time. as an msc student, I had thought I can combine both, but with what I'm seeing, I'm scared. even more Scarry is when you meet people there and they tell you they've been in that slavery for up to four Years.

please share your experience as a contract staff. how were you able to cope?

That is just the way our system works this country. The blame should be directed to the labour congress. I believe that they is a labour law that protects the rights of contact staff, but because of unwillingness and selfishness of our labour congress this laws cannot be put into action. The national assembly should also have the share of the blame. This private companies inject money into national assembly to stop any process of making new laws to checkmate their excesses.

OP, what do you refer to as slavery? The work load, verbal or physical abuse, or something else. You said your experience as a contract staff and I was looking forward to reading your experience but with the floor open like this, this will be another thread for bashing bank jobs entirely with no concrete reason by those who will comment.

If you don't mind, please open the floor well so we can share real and imagined experience.

d bank with a contact center in ilupeju. is s*****c.. bros endure till sumtin beta comes up.contract staffs are treated with disdain and it needs to be scrapped. the banks can afford to pay full salary for every staff but the greedy Gm and AGM know it will affect their bonus which is normally btw 20-50m. instead of converting d contract staff after lik 2-3 years d banks wud employee a fresh grad to head these contract staffs who hv dedicated their time nd life to d bank. man is indeed wicked

I know many contract bankers are enduring a lot. the mere thought that your true salary is being truncated by your contractors is sickening.

Infact I was gonna reply by typing out the banks name but saw ur own reply. Had a friend and former coursemante who worked der,she was forced to resign due to the stress. They evn lost a colleague who was crushed by a bus oon his way to work jus because he was rushing to beat time. Dey dnt keep to their hours of shift and hav an oga der by d name Mr H...Y who makes life difficult for them right frm the interview session. I doubt I want to work in a bank anymore sef. Work can go on smoothly but soom ogas wldw want to mak life unecesarily difficult. Op its well wit u o

The opening post has done little to shed light into this issue. And another claiming to blame the labour unions is ignorant.

I won't talk on the experience coz I've never experienced it but on the labour. The blame lies on the handicap state the constitution has put our unions where they have limited rights to meddle into private sector businesses.

But biko,let the experience continue

My dear...datz where the term "contract" comes to fore. Is it in the contract the bank has with the Outsourcing company that the staff will be converted after 2-3years? Is it in the HR policy of the bank to convert outsourced/contract staff after some years? If these terms don't exist, then cease blaming the bank or getting a headache over nothing cos it aint gonna change till someone amends the contractual terms and conditions.

No one is being wicked. It's strictly business. Sign the employment letter if ur okay with it....or reject if ur not okay with it.

C'est la vie.

Hahaha.. If u want to put it that way... cheesy

I work for a bank who converts their outsourced staff after some years but there are still certain conditions that must be met when the conversion exams are being conducted (qualification -Bsc, MSC/MBA..etc.. and age).

Iv a good number of friends who have been converted from the contract status to full staff.

Lets stop blaming the banks but rather attribute some of the blames to ourselves.

We are all here coding the name of the bank; some even say s-------c, is that for standard chartered or stanbic ibtc?

Why is it so difficult to name and shame the brands that associate themselves with inhuman treatment of staff?
Do we all have to wait for our blood brothers and sisters to be treated that way bfore naming and shaming them?

If its Psquare Peter vs Paul beef, we call them out,
If its Olamide vs Don Jazzy, we say their names out loud,
Lets change our 'covering up" attitude of the worst places to work so they can shape up once the effect of the negative publicity dawns on them.

I understand it may be difficult but still strive to do your best... it will pave way for you!

Not asking you to go beyond your limit though... but as long as you're still there; be the best at what you do....

Some people are paid to type here just to defend the banks. They are also part of the slavery OP is talking about but to them they are doing their job.

They are not happy that the banks are criticised.
