To know the stocking density do a calculation to get the volume of the tank. For a 10x6x4ft the volume will be 6.912. So if you can stock 90 fishes per square meter it will be 90*6.192=557fishes. So it also depends on the type of system you are doing. I will suggest you use 15ft length 6ft Width and 4ft depth to achieve 1000 fishes. As for the construction let the professionals handle that. I'm also looking so someone to construct for me in Portharcourt.

Before it can work, you need to get borehole expert to determine the formation of the land. You don't need submersible pump machine before it works. After drilling, the water will come out naturally from the borehole, you only need pipe to channel the water into the pond.

Sometime last year a guy introduced the bio disc to me and told me about its numerous benefit but I declined.. After much persuation I gave it a try and it has been outstanding since then.. I don't get casualties as such,my fishes are always very active and smart, and they grow faster..

Aslo in the hatchery the importance of Bio disc cannot be over emphasised... Anytime I hacth almost 90% of the eggs hatch, and the mortality rate is very low, they are always active from day one... I get over 60k fries just from a single female fish alone and the survival rate is tremendous... My students can testify of this..

I employ fish farmers who have the capacity to get a bio disc to purchase one and see its numerous benefits and have a bumper harvest.. God bless

Hello...please I noticed some white things on the head of my fish. I have isolated 4 of them. I will sort on monday and isolate any more with the white things also. advice is be available to care for them now, if not severe, but if d infection is already severe, you come to see them all with d same issue on monday. what you need to do now is minimise it to d bearest minimum. keep good & clean water, disinfect yr tanks( don't use izal or dettol oooh), salt solution or malachite green will do, change water more often, reduce feeding. tetracyline could assist. Next time, learn to inculcate good water mgt . It can be fatal in extreme cases

This is better advised in swampy areas usually for earthened ponds.


Earthened pond is good and cheap to operate sha. My only problem there is security and natural disasters like flood!

Hi, fellow and great farmers, i am sure we have all noticed the sudden increase in prices of all commodities in the country in recent times, not to talk of the incessant fuel crisis that also has negative impacts on running our farms on a day to day basis. .
Directly and indirectly, it has affected fish farming and farmers as a whole.
In view of this, it is necessary that fish farmers increase the price of their fish to be able to meet up with the increase in cost of living and cost of farming in Nigeria . Usually the price of fish (1kg ), averagely sells at N500 per kilo in Lagos on our farms. This price has be static for so long despite the rising costs of farming. Sometimes its even less than N500 per kilo, it all depends on market factors at any point in time.
Nothing stops us from selling bulk sales at N600 per kilo to market women! Yes.... This will cushion the effects of increased cost of production. We can only do this with one voice (as farmers) and with deep resolve.
Also farmers should try as much as possible to reduce the cost of farming to the barest minimum so as to further widen their profit margin and also try to increase their turn over rate and farm capacities.
Let us not labour in vain. We should also be able to enjoy the fruits of our labour and be able to live as comfortably; even more comfortably than people with white collar jobs. REMEMBER THAT NO FARMER, NO NATION.
