Good step, not the egocentric apprentice that forced our senior players to retirement, most national team captains re chosen by seniority
Re: John Obi-Mikel Is Captain Of The Super Eagles by TheSuperNerd(m):
He was more than decisive. He was the pivot of that team.

Without his assists, Emenike wouldn't have scored 3 of his goals.

Without his midfield display, Mba would not have been adventurous.

Without Mikel, we would have lost to the Ivory Coast. #facts

xtervaganza:
Yea he wasn't as decisive as MBA, emenike or our 2 center backs

Adam Johnson gets 6years in prison for his sexual activity with an underage female fan.
His contract with Sunderland FC terminated.
Also stripped of his 12 caps for England.

[quote author=TheSuperNerd post=44066562]John Mikel Obi finally set to "officially" lead the Super Eagles in a competitive fixture.

Wow! Awesome. It's not the first time he'll be wearing the arm-band.

He did so in a friendly against Messi's Argentina in Asia (bangladesh I think?) which Nigeria lost by 3-1 in a 2-legged friendly series which saw the first leg end 4-1 in favor of Nigeria's Super Eagles (the Guiness cup friendly match).

I'm 100% certain Samson Siasia had a big hand in straightening the captaincy issue out. He must be applauded and Musa commended for acknowledging "seniority" and "Class".

Mikel leading out the Super Eagles tomorrow officially in his first competitive fixture as Captain will be a huge sight to behold.

He's feared and well respected by teams all over Africa and around the world. Mikel commands the fear factor and the super class and pedigree to strike fear in opponents as Super Eagles new captain.

Siasia has handled this very well indeed. This is partly where Oliseh missed it. It's like the biblical scenario where Jacob cursed reuben only generations to pass before a great prophet named Moses took the curse away.

Well, with this "skipper issue" now corrected and placed right.... Let's hope this augurs well tomorrow for the Super Eagles and even beyond the afcon qualifiers.

.............................
Going a little down memory lane.

I recall a host of bright minds discussed this Super Eagles captaincy issue late last year on Safarigirl's thread titled, "OlisehvsEnyeama and the impending doom".

I'm not a big fan of his but his improved play with Chelsea and seniority make it a good team building excersize and it just might bring out the best in him.

Musa was way over his head and I've never liked a goalkeeper being captain.

Mikel has to bring it and lead this team with his play.

Yes! Saw this coming.

More coming from me on this.....

Firstly, I believe this is a huge step in the right direction to banish the tension in the squad created by Sunday Oliseh's numerous run-ins with players, officials, media and fans!

I'm most delighted in having Ahmed Musa make the announcements as this shows there are no hard feelings as per the matter. It also shows Siasia has grown in Man management skills; which was his bane during his previous reign as Super Eagles coach.

Also, Mikel's response of declaring his absolute loyalty to the Coach and team is very heart-warming. When Mikel plays, Nigeria ticks! So we can only expect a rejuvenated team playing with verve and cutting edge.

Lastly, I have always been a Siasia advocate because I believe the Eagles played their best games in decades, under his tutelage in 2011! His 2008 Dream Team also played such disciplined football that one of the commentators in the match Nigeria vs Belgium (Olympics Semi finals) gushed about the fact that he hadn't seen any African team play with such African flair and European discipline! His combination with the pace setting style of Coach Amunike should give Nigeria a team that can rival the USA 1994 Team both in flair and RESULTS!

I sincerely hope Siasia/Amunike combo can re-enact the entertaining and high scoring playing style the Super Eagles used to have, starting tomorrow vs Egypt. I have a feeling we will win comfortably in the end and after that, we will address the little matter of confirming this coaching crew as the substantive Super Eagles Management Team!
wow!almost perfect analysis..... I dof Hart sir

Mikel Obi leading the pack to glory on Friday? He's got to pray hard that his team will smile at the end of the day. Handling or wearing the captain's handband is nothing compared to the result that must be gotten from tomorrow's match. A 2 - 0 or 2 - 1 scoreline in favour of Nigeria aint gonna be an advantage 'cos playing the Egyptian at their backyard is like fighting a strong enemy in his territory which serves as his fortress. We need a wide margin to top the table so as to have an edge over the pharoahs of Egypt. Siasia, Mikel and the rest lads should know what task lies ahead. With the likes of Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, etc I believe the goals will come in handy but our backline is a major factor that will mar our chances. Has Siasia been able to solve this problem or do we just hang our hope on God? Let the best side win....
Re: John Obi-Mikel Is Captain Of The Super Eagles by VanOmiyale: 6:28pm On Mar 24, 2016
I understand perfectly what Oliseh tried to do with the captaincy issue at the time he gave it to the most consistent club football Nigerian player which was Musa at the time. You can not have a captain who is a perpetual bench warmer in his club. It is not good for the morale of the team but it's OK now that Mikel is playing consistently in his club.

Worry not Sir.

Siasia also rates Iheanacho very very highly. He will play a part in the games tomorrow and on the 29th in alexandria either as a starter or from the bench.

Nacho is the leader and face of Nigeria's Generation next (the next golden generation of Nigerian football-- first golden generation was centrally between 1990-2000)

This genertation next also includes Alex Iwobi, Sadiq Umar (AS Roma), Isaac Success(Granada, will move to watford next season) , Moses Simon (KAA Gent), Musa Yahaya (Tottenham on loan at Portimonense), Kelechi Nwakali (Arsenal), Chidiebere Nwakali (Man City on loan at IK Start, Norway), Nura Abdullahi (AS Roma), Samuel Chukwueze, Musa Mohammed (Istanbul BB), Wilfred Ndidi (KRC Genk), Chidozie Awaziem (FC Porto), Chidera Ezeh (FC Porto), Victor Osimhen (Wolfsburg.. Starts contract in 2017), Dele Alampasu (SC Feirense, portugal), and a host of other Top and fast-rising young Nigerian super talents in football.

The future is bright.... #smiles
Thank God for coaches like Siasia. I bet Keshi wouldn't have brought him in yet... I can bet anything on that.

You can say that again and again. Watch out for the beast of Mikel as Nigeria's Super Eagles' official team leader.

He's always been The Super Eagles out-field leader even when Enyeama (the team's ex-overall leader) was around.

At AFCON 2013, Mikel led from midfield. Sometimes, a leader don't need the captain band but in today's football era, coaches understand sometimes your captain must be one who has not just experience but must be the best player or one of the best players in the team AND MUST ULTIMATELY CARRY THE FEAR FACTOR THAT CAN INTIMIDATE THE OPPONENTS.
U re very correct bro.
That is y wayne rooney is the captain of Man united despite his poor form...cos he has got the class and the fear factor.and Van gaal will tell anybody that cares to listen that my captain will always play as long as he his fit.
