So because the commentator is our own,we shouldn't criticise his blunders...nigerian commentators made me loose interest in following our local league, the inability to recognise players on the pitch kills me even more, when u watch epl matches,u learn alot about history from the commentators but ours here keep bringing up irrelevant information tim the match is over.

Let's call a spade a spade, the performance of the commentator was woefull. OP has a point though, but the world is moving fast and we can't keep giving excuses for mediocrity. The West keep laughing at us when we hide under 'Rome wasn't built in a day'. We are over 150million people and I know we can get over a hundred people who would do better than that commentator. It was very shameful.

That's why they sound dull whenever they are commentating

Just look at the swagger being displayed by english commentators in EPL

There are better commentators out there. I know I will be speaking for many if I suggest Femi and the gang. Those guys are so good I usually prefer to listen their commentary than even those of the sky sports guys.
I was waiting for someone to mention this name, honestly those guys are brilliant and femi has such an amazing voice and skill

Tell me how is this a counter thread when you cannot even make one sound point

Atimes i feel its because of attitude like this shown by our parents in their youthful period, is the reason why we are where we are today...

How can you support mediocrity with all your wealth of knowledge, to say the least i think you just made a fool of yourself OP, by showing to the whole world what a clown you are.

You did not watch that match against Egypt cos if you did you would be disappointed in the commentary far more than i did.

And next time when countering a thread bring as much points as you can, don't counter an argument with grammar all because the OXFORD dictionary is close by

The essence of this thread is to dissenter and refute the points raised by the Original Poster(OP) of this thread https://www.nairaland.com/3011016/why-nigerian-commentators-should-not , of why he believes and assents that Nigerian commentators should be barred from commenting during our international matches.

I want to use this medium to beseech the OP and Nigerians with similar mindsets to jettison Xenocentrism (the belief that products, styles, or ideas of one's country or society is inferior to those that are practised and originated elsewhere). This is why most Nigerians prefer the “alluring” commodities, ideologies and culture of foreigners above theirs.

The two points stated by the OP as to why he maintains the belief that Nigerian commentators should be thwarted from commenting are: The case of them being Subjective in their approach, and the display of incompetence and anomia (difficulty in finding the correct word to use).

The issue of them being subjective is universal, even the European commentators are also culpable of such attempt. I watched the Champions League Final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich and the commentators were obviously expressing their supports for the English team(Chelsea) by saying “Yes! Yes!! Yes!!!” anytime a Chelsea player scored during their penalty shoot out, since the full-time failed to produce the winner. If the British could not reprimand their commentators for being bias and subjective, then why should we reprimand ours?
You can watch the highlight here to answer for all skepticisms and inquisitions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xibKxX9iS5E .

The issue of them display incompetence can be resolve via formulating policies such establishing a vocational institute for out current and potential commentators to acquire assiduous training on commenting exercise.

They should ditch the mindset of appointing commentators base on their ability of to talk much, and being profound in Sports. They should be thought and made to imbibe the valid mechanisms of commenting.

Here is an encouraging comment from a Nairalander:
.

Condemning ourselves is not a prerequisite for maintaining development.

You are too serious

You just wrote an unnecessarily long prolix that's completely op(out of point). I read carefully the thread you claim to be countering and i did not find any part where the op claimed our local commentaries should be discontinued, he only compared it with foreign commentaries and gave a good example to support his claims that local commentators should polish themselves. You just grabbed the nearest dictionary and jumped on the wagon to defend home without any fuel. Next time when you attempt to counter a thread, make sure you have good understanding of the claims you intend to counter and give valid reasons to support your dissenting opinion. And lest I forget, being verbose with the use of vocabulary is not a good way to communicate, it neither makes you appear "smart or intelligent" on the contrary you make yourself an object of laughter especially when the opinion you're trying to pass makes no sense. If by chance you're a newly admitted law student still passing through the phase of euphoria and pride, step down from your high horse because being a lawyer is not simply about churning out every word in the dictionary as you'll soon find out for yourself.

You just made a thread to counter the other thread ...This one really makes no sense though...so because 1 or 2 foreign commentators are guilty of same, we should encourage such mediocrity too...How about them not knowing the players by name, bad english, horrible communication...abeg Park well

What can you deduce from his topic “Why Nigerian Commentators Should Not Comment On Serious Matches

The word “should” is use to indicate an obligation.
so what do you refer to the phrase "they are obliged not to comment”?

And stop making spurious allegations about my lexical expressions, it started long ago, you can appraise my antiquated posts for substantiation.

When I clicked on this thread, I was expecting to see some convincing write up, but after reading to the end I was disappointed. My friend that watch only local leagues and will lash at you whenever you dare criticized our local football agreed with me for once that the guy that commented in the Nigeria Vs Egypt march was wack and lack every sense of professionalism. How do you explain this " and that is a goal..... Nigeria team took all the sleeping tablets, .... they took sleeping peel, they took lexotan and all the sleeping tablets in the world................" and some nonsense that i can't really comprehend. I am very sure that if he ( I mean the commentator) listen to himself again, he will be disappointed. what we demanded is at least some level of professionalism and not his head.
