As of now, no police in sight in Delta Park. Rioting boys have given the girls till 6pm to pack that they will return to burn the hostels.

The students went to the house of UPTH CMD and destroyed all the cars packed outside.

They then destroyed all the windows of all the hostels, Admissions office.

They then destroyed the windows of the house of the former VC and his wife's personal car.

They went to staff club and tumbled the place upside down.

You are retarde.d for this comment if they can't afford education must they derail those who can? University education is not by force if you can't afford it go and learn a trade.

There are rules in every organization, uniport has a right to make their own rules that students have to adhere to, you seem like one of the touts in support of this crazy protest, I heard a student died, died for a pointless cause, that students blood is on your hands.

And by the way you ignorant numbskull this is nairaland, this is a free world, and I have a right to my own opinion, if god punished people for every comment made on Nairaland then we'd all be on trouble so you spewing trash means nothing to me, from your comment I can tell the kind of person you are, one that thinks with his arseholee.

You shouldn't say if you can't pay the fees look for a trade. That's unfair on your part. I'm an alumni of the school. I had people who couldn't pay fees at specific times but at least they wrote their exams and passed. It was now a question of paying all outstanding fees before clearance. Forcing people to carry over simply because they can't afford fees at the said deadline is totally unfair.

So if all students decide to wait till final year to pay school fees, how would the school be run? It's only in Nigeria mentality like this is acceptable.

I know it's unfair but doesn't mean they should protest in a violent manner, destroying school infrastructure and looting.

I think yours is exagerated. I dont think any degree programme in unical pays up to that amount. It's far beyond what we pay.

Mr man, what are you saying. In the 60s and 70s Nigerians went to school for free in both University, Polytechnic and COE. They even eat for free back then.
Nigeria has power to sponsor her students for free but due to misplacement of priorities and corruption our govt can't do it again. Anytime I have a conversation with those people that school that time they do tell me we students of nowadays are in schools to suffer.
My uncle studies in Saudi Arabia from his 1st degree to his PhD level for free. They do give him allowances.
If we are to be paying huge amount for school fees in Nigeria, many of us won't attend higher institutions
How many people went to school in the 60s? I believe that the time for major government contribution to tertiary education is over. The focus should now be on primary, secondary and technical education...

Are these really the school fees of these Universities? shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

No wonder Nigerian Universities are shiit! shocked shocked shocked

A miserly 45,000 Naira for a University Education? I know Daycares that charge more than 10 times that amount.

The Laptops and Phones of most of these students cast more than their tuition.

I'm sorry but this shiit has got to stop. The Government cant keep playing this type of useless politics with our lives. Quality Education can not be achieved with this type of poor income into the Universities coupled with the poor funding from the Government. Hstory has shown us that everything the Government of Nigeria has touched always fails. Its time the Nigerian Universities become autonomous.

Universities should be allowed to fund themselves and set their fee rate.

All the Nigerian Government should do is set up a merit based scholarship system for qualified students.

No wonder many of them come out of the university as advanced illiterates.

Crucify me, but i remember a saying; If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.

Edited:: Look at UNIBEN Tuition...

Good Point..

Thats why I proffered alternatives like 'merit base scholarships', student loans/grants, e.t.c.

Example: The kid from UNILAG that landed a perfect score should not have to pay a dime for his University degree.. The kid struggling with a third class would have to pay to stay in school. Merit based. The better your grades, the less you pay. Or you take a student loan and repay it after graduation.

Yes. Then the problem of lecturers seriously awarding marks for cash/kind go increase crazily. Mehnnnnn, how dem go do dis kind country?

Nobody is keen on Niger delta petroleum, the five eastern states are enough. Just a referendum shouldn't be too much to ask from genocidal 'Christians' like you.
Ur personal message says "every living soul praise the Lord", yet ur heart is so dark. Dis people aren't asking to leave with ur land, ur wives, ur houses, ur properties, ur children, ur money etc. Yet you're so pained. ENVY.

Be cool darling.. grin I doubt you understood that post.

Wether you like to admit it or not, the reason he died was because of this 45,000 Naira issue.

Technically speaking, that was what the cost of life was worth in this case.

It's sad that a Universoty undergraduate had to die for less than 150 US Dollars..

Don't strangle me, strangle the people you supported and encouraged into political office.

MadCow simply told you the harsh truth.

I reacted to placards carried by the students showing the school fees rates.. If that was not the cause of the protest then that shows the students are not fully informed about why they are protesting.

Speaking of minding words, you are the one acting Mad, I have been nothing but civil towards you. grin So please take your own advise on this.

And the Germans pay high taxes for the privilege(Germany takes 40% of what you earn in taxes)....plus Germany is a manufacturing nation with enough forex from exporting finished manufactured goods...so it can fund freee education.

Compare with Nigeria...that produces less oil than the United Arab Emirates...and for a population of 170 million too...against the UAE'S 8 million. Of course...UAE has free education. Nigeria cannot afford it.

Between 10pm and 1:30am, army 'raided' all the undergraduate hostels in Abuja campus. They brought out all the students still in the hostel after the notice to vacate before 6pm (yesterday) was circulated.
