Nigeria will remain ONE for a very long time to come.

Southerners have learnt to not just embrace their servitude but cherish it. Cowardice has conditioned their DNA. Peace at any cost is their mantra.

That is nonsense, but let me ask, if per adventure Nigeria distingrate as predicted, who is going to lose? Only wailers. North is the basketmouth of the nation, south west the commercial nerve of the nation, south south also with their oil. Then tell me a single thing the south east will hold unto. Don't let me deceive u, if south east think they want to go because of south south oil, there will be war because south south are also wise now. so only south east are wailers I don't like towing the line of tribalism but its obvious you are a tribalistic and nepotistic bigot or maybe you don't know who a wailer is let me just make it clear to you South east have oil not as much as South though south east have commercial industries maybe not as much as the south west , south east have good and fertile land for farming but are not producing as much as the north what does this tell you as you can see we have little of everything you think you have, South east have more than enough to take care of themselves but due to the fact that they have not dug in deep is the reason why you think south east is vulnerable the only place you could say they are vulnerable is the fact that they are landlocked but when you take a look at Israel you see that that doesn't matter open your eyes Nigeria needs south east more than south east needs Nigeria.

The way we think in this country is just the only problem we have. Most of us think like stark retards!Know this:the difference between two people is simply the way they think. With all the oil Nigeria has,we still live like stone age men,yet Britain that has nothing compared to Nigeria is like paradise. Why don't you bother about yourself and leave South East to their fate.We misplace priorities a lot that's why you see jobless and hungry looking youths all around nairaland spewing trash. What have you benefitted from this country that has never been heard of.A man with prospect is far much better than a man that lives blindly. With all our oil in South South, what have we achieved so far?Absolutely nothing!Don't be surprised when Nigeria disintegrates, the rejected stone might be the corner stone.

I still wonder why we wish to live as one when we hate ourselves so much.I try to figure out that thing binding us together as a nation yet I see nothing. All I see is strong hatred, tribalism, injustice, visionless leaders, myopic followers, hunger, stavation, looting, selfishness, failed system etc.

I rather live in a desert than be proud to be called a citizen of a country full of clueless and wicked leaders coupled with brain drained youths without prospects and destination.

The entire world knows that this country is good for nothing.A country where injustice prevails over justice,a thief stands for election and rigs himself into power and the youths worships him with their lives.

The Igbos might be chest beaters and braggards, but their reason for wanting to opt out of this union is so obvious. How could fuel not be available in a country producing one of the best crude in the world.I wish Fela still lives,"suffering and smilling" would've had a modern remix.

Stupid and senseless youths should wake up,we've slept for too long!

The Op speaks the truth. Only true federalism can make this contraption called Nigeria to continue to exist. Those who are vehemently opposed to the recommendations of the last national confrence and would not convoke their own either, are the same people dividing the people along ethnic and religious lines.
The mutual suspicion is so eloquent. A northern muslim would readily avail help to a chadian muslim than to a northern christain!
And now they want to infiltrate other peoples territory in the guise of grazing reserve but with jihad on their minds and their ultimate goal. Will the rest of the people sit and just
watch and do nothing? Noooooo!!!!!
We may be in the last days!

Federalism would only re-distribute the power and decentralize the problem it however would not resolve the moral dilemma of corrupt politicians, civil servants, citizens , police officers etc. The governor of your state who is looting your state coffers, the commissioners, Godfathers, political thugs etc are not foreign imports, they are born and empowered within state, therefore decentralizing power and increasing their powers would just transfer the authority to steal from ministers to those commissioners.

The Republic system has it's flaws, but the manner in which many claim federalism is the solution to our problems one would ignore the primal reason it is being championed which is ethnic separatism, only a fool would blame the underdevelopment of his/her state on a distant ethnic factor

ElCount:

It all started with General Buhari's 95%-5% statement, it was a devastating blow to the unity of the country and mysteriously the folks seeking for a united nigeria are the ones who supported that statement the most.
Well nigeria expired in 2014 according to the amalgamation agreement, so currently the country is on auto-pilot while buhari gathers the final pieces to the disintegration of the country. Its obvious the south would not tolerate his cattle rearing jihadist even with the backing of the FG

How I wish you are right about this. But the southern states are represented by their senators at the NASS. They were all there, weren't they, when the grazing reserve bill passed a first and second reading. It is about to go through the third reading, and once it sails through this final stage, the president signs it into law.

Can somebody tell me, for instance, what the senators from the SE and SS, 90% of whom are from the opposition party, PDP, were all doing when this bill passed the two stages?

Everyone knows that the intention of this bill is ominous. Fulani herdsmen have been killing and destroying without any repercussion when they illegally invade farms and communities in the south. How much more when they get legal backing from this bill? Do you think they will recognize any boundary made on paper?

first, I am not comparing both. I only drew a similarity in the unattainability of their goals.

second, we keep coming back to the same point. How many Igbos want bi@fra?

That's the reason why a plebiscite is conducted. what if those agitating for bi@fra are only 5% of the entire ethnic group, would it be proper to say that all igbos should go with them just because they are a raucous and noisy 5%?

let them lobby for a referendum. if majority of Igbos want it then bye bye to them, wish them well.

nobody is holding anybody down by force. they should do the needful and stop preaching hate and violence.
very Good point you have made here, i must admit. Okay how do we find out if %95 supports disintegration? By shutting down, ignoring and treathning them? Because i believe they are asking for referendum, (though they may be going about it the wrong way, perharps). let's take them serious, put our cards on the table by letting them be aware that we support free and fair referendum.ultimately the result will resolve this logger head. Nigerian Government is not even offering referendum. Instead they are labeling them terrorists and jobless hoodlums.

Sudan is a perfect example, South Sudan with their oil have not known peace since they got themselves 'liberated' from Sudan. Nigeria's political class are the sole beneficiaries of the 'amalgamation' and as long as they remain united in d divide and rule strategy, the country will still remain. The youths of this country should embrace peace and avoid politicians that set them against each other.

I'm happy you said that they may be going about their agitation the wrong way. that is my point.

the government can't fold it's arm and watch people destroying shops of innocent traders and trucks and businesses just because they are agitating for something.

as long as there is still one Nigeria, the government has a duty to protect innocent citizens from harm and insecurity, whether they reside in the North, South, East or West. and we all know how hoodlums will use the opportunity to loot and rape and burn. so the crack down is in order.

How many times did Scotland protest on the streets before they were granted a referendum which by the way didn't favor those who wanted to split from the U.K.

The Nigerian government CAN NOT "offer" referendum as you have suggested because the referendum clause isn't present nor supported in our constitution, so, not only would be the federal government be breaking the law by offering that, but the president will be guilty of treason as he swore to defend the integrity of the country and it's unity. He would definitely be impeached and jailed.

What the agitators can do is to ask their senators to lobby their colleagues in the National Assembly to push a bill to include a referendum act in the constitution.

I don't know if that will work since it will still need the assent of the President. So, they may also need to lobby the president by a high powered delegation.

We know this won't happen because they hate the president and they also hate the Westerners and Northerners who make up the bulk of the National Assembly.

interesting!

from musician to columnist in the Punch newspaper, now the guy has metamorphosed into a prophet.

We all know that that is the wish of majority of our peeps from the East. That Nigeria be destroyed.

That's why they gloat at every bad news and hardship Nigerians are going through and become silently vindictive and bitter when progress is made, like the billion dollar deal brokered by the President.

their peculiar position has led them to uncharted waters by defending the likes of Fayose, Saraki, and other thieves as well as the old hag Kemi Olunloyo.

God pass you all.
You are talking of thieves? Of course one of the reasons for hate brought about by Buhari. Since Buhari came into power, prayer points increased like spreading fire because people do not like Buhari. Buhari first comment was that of 5%. His appointments were all oppressive, complete and disregard for others. His corruption fight is facing only the south south while he is with big Thieves in his cabinet. Instead of all this to succeed, people now resorted to praying for the break up of this dirty country. People are not willing to allow some people killed. Jailed while the thives in yoruba and north is walking free. This country will end, iif not now, will not be too long. People are praying every day because of frustration and anger arising from not only those faactors mentioned but also for Buhari bad luck and hardship. I have never bought fuel of N200 before. Uptill now, am managing to buy fuel N200 to pump water.

you said people hate President Buhari . but the only group of people who truly hate the man are from the eastern part of this country and the reasons they hate him so much are because he is a Fulani and a Northerner whom the Easterners believed help to win the civil war against them.

they also hate him because he is a Moslem.

they hate him also for defeating their dearly beloved president, goodluck Jonathan in the last presidential election.

You say his corruption fight is facing only the South-south. I just like the way you manufacture facts without bothering whether they are true or not.

you must take me for a fool.

I guess Dasuki is now a South-southerner abi?

what about Saraki undergoing trial. He is from Bayelsa. No be so?

People can pray all they want. If they don't support this President to bring about the needed change to this country, then their prayers are all in vain.

You are talking of hardship. Do you know that if some wayward senators hadn't gone to pad the budget, it would have been passed by now and there will be money in circulation.

instead, you guys will be praising them and licking their boots and defending them here on Nairaland.

Go online and get the full list of the ministers in PMB's cabinet and tell me if Ibos aren't properly represented there.

I guess they are expecting more despite the fact that they didn't and still don't support this administration.

such a pity.

those expecting Nigeria to breakup will surely see Nigeria prosper and make giant strides to their shame and confusion.

God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

well it's been nice having this discussion.

for the records, I believe a united Nigeria is the only African powerhouse that can take on the world. there is beauty in our diversity and other countries would do anything to have our rich and beautiful blend of cultures.

haven said that, I do not oppose any part of the country that decide they want to secede. As long as they go about it peacefully and without bitterness or rancor.

as for the economic situation we are currently facing, I've always said it here, no pain, no gain.

when there was plenty, our leaders did not think to invest and diversify and save for the rainy day.

now, there is a thunderstorm of economic problems and our umbrella is torn and our purse emptied over the years by looters.

it is unfair to blame the present predicament on a president who is yet to implement a budget.

he isn't perfect, yet I think he has earned our trust that he is working for us.

this is the time we all need to get behind the president and give him our unalloyed support because if he succeeds, then we will have a better country to bequeath to our children and their children after them.

we need to educate ourselves that while constructive criticism is needed, we must tread with caution so as not to derail this government. a military coup will be devastating at this point in our national history.

the western powers will do everything to sabotage our efforts at development because they can't stand another super power coming out of Africa.(That's the reason they killed Thomas Sankara and Gaddafi.)

A united Nigeria will definitely become a super power one day.

God bless.
