The Op speaks the truth. Only true federalism can make this contraption called Nigeria to continue to exist. Those who are vehemently opposed to the recommendations of the last national confrence and would not convoke their own either, are the same people dividing the people along ethnic and religious lines.
The mutual suspicion is so eloquent. A northern muslim would readily avail help to a chadian muslim than to a northern christain!
And now they want to infiltrate other peoples territory in the guise of grazing reserve but with jihad on their minds and their ultimate goal. Will the rest of the people sit and just

It is obvious that those who reminice that the end is near for Nigeria do so out of their selfish desires or out of ideas instilled upon them by these selfish people.

Nursing the idea that Nigeria will divide soon will continue to create enmity and division among us. It will prolong our problem but it will not come to pass as I firmly believe that it is not the will of God for this country. But for the sake of those who pray fervently for the unity of this country, God will not allow Nigeria to divide. If Nigeria should divide today, I am certain that what is happening in the Middle East today will erupt and one country will see another as an enemy. If you do not envision this, I do. Let us appreciate what we have now. That which we seek might not be as rosy as you think. Let us reason properly before we come out with some decisions that will destroy our lives forever.

We should avoid nursing all these negative thoughts in our minds. It will continue to create enmity and division among us. Let us have a positive outlook. By the time each one of us realise that Nigeria can become a better nation, that is when we will see good things come out of Nigeria. That is when we can experience development. We should not allow politics and tribalism becloud our sense of judgement.

Nigeria must be great.

what they need to do is stop being sore losers and re-strategize for 2019.

until then it's not possible to grant their request unless like I said they want to plan a coup. wouldn't be their first time though.

just like boko harm wanted sharia as the only law recognized in Nigeria. it would be stupid for any government to sit down to negotiate. cos there's nothing to negotiate.

they can ask for something more realistic though, like true fiscal federalism. then we will listen.
comparing boko haram and Groups who are asking for disintegration is unfair they i believe are not A religious group and they are not asking to take over nigeria. Now here is my position if this Group or ethnics are not as relevant as some ( including you) have claimed to nigeria why not let them go? It's like some one who hates his wife but refuses to divorce her grin. Its obvious that the north and the south east are not, have never and will never be in good terms.

Every sensible person knows the current political structure has no future for Nigerians. Prayers and metre wishes won't change our lot; only genuine efforts geared towards restructuring will move this nation forward.

Nigeria has a date with truth. He who has an ear let him hear.

All these people in one country, really? You only need to read the comments on this thread to know just why we have stagnated as a nation. The youths are an accessory to holding this country at bay!

Who do the politicians use to kill other youths? The youth!

Who do the politicians use to terminate well meaning opposition figures who could have changed things? The youths?

Who would rather be handed everything else than work? Most youths!

I can go on and on and yet not emphasise this enough.

But to reiterate my position on this subject;

It is important to note that for the good of people and for sake of posterity, Nigeria is better off as one country.

Reasons

Nigeria's problem has always been a systemic one.
The youths have had their rights stolen, most never even had any to be honest. You may break Nigeria into 6 different countries, it still won't change your crop of leaders--the real problem.

They have become almost like an institution, the embodiment of a corrupt system and an emblem of injustice. They abound in all regions.

In functional systems, no one is told to mind their place, but that their place is as high as they can get. It makes people ambitious and gives a sense of responsibility from a young age already.

With these people, even if you had your own country, you would only have succeeded in enthroning regional subjugators. The only difference will be country's name, logo and motto.

Now, before you accuse me, first look to your Local Government Chairman who has never lived outside of your region before, how different is he from the rest? Sh*t has eaten deep into the fabrics of the society at all levels.

What we have in Nigeria are dream killers, witches and snitches who would rather that you view education as a privilege than a right because they wouldn't want you competing on equal footing with their kids in the future.

For posterity's sake, a small country can only grow so much. Today, south Korea is developed but cannot grow much further because it's a small country, same as Canada. This has caused India and Brazil to be closing in faster on them in terms of even Nominal GDP. We need all these lands for the sake of generations unborn, they'll need it even more.

The Game of Numbers. We have a large population with a majority in the youth brackets. This has played in our favour and would continue to do so. Or why else do you think the West pits us against each other at every turn?
The wanna beat down that power.

So much is wrong with Nigeria, but we could suffer worse should we turn against each other. There's strength in numbers.
This geographical expression called nijeriya is better off divided than as one.reasons are
the best years we ever had was during the regional government era whereby the the regions were in a healthy competition with the western region leading in education and industrialization while my eastern region try to catch up.
Take a look at the southwest, chief awolowo's legacy can be seen though its gradually fading away because pseudo awoists have starved the spirit of awolowo which is the only leader that had interest of the masses at heart.
As for the east,we can tell u that we have a way of dealing with wicked people among us.take for instance no igbo criminal or robber can last two years committing crime in his village or town.
Among the igbos there is fear of the people and this what is required for leaders to behave but nijeriya gives her thieving governors encouragement in the name of impunity.
Another reason is that some part of this country have born to rule mentality ingrained in their subconscious mind and i ask "how do we reconcile this conservative born to rule mentality with progressive mentality of the rest of the country".

first, I am not comparing both. I only drew a similarity in the unattainability of their goals.

second, we keep coming back to the same point. How many Igbos want bi@fra?

That's the reason why a plebiscite is conducted. what if those agitating for bi@fra are only 5% of the entire ethnic group, would it be proper to say that all igbos should go with them just because they are a raucous and noisy 5%?

let them lobby for a referendum. if majority of Igbos want it then bye bye to them, wish them well.

nobody is holding anybody down by force. they should do the needful and stop preaching hate and violence.

Sarah, this is not about creating enmity among us. One cannot over emphasise the fact that we would be better off as one nation. But the point here is that the gigantic building doesn't have strong foundation, and nobody cares to listen, until one day it collapses. That's exactly the fate that waits Nigeria.
And for the optimists, why do you think that the US is making the prediction about Nigeria's future? They have the intelligence.

Stop being pessimistic and remain a patriotic citizen. Contribute your own quota while also pray for better change. Though you made some good points, where U said, politicians take advantage of stormy situations to loot fund. As for who to run or turn to when things turn around, sure, we still have God or gods we believe in.

this oil talk with the igbos is really beginning to piss me off. How many wealthy igbo business men made money through oil and with the help of the government? Mind you, if you are an adult and familiar with the SE, you would know that part of abia and imo state were carved into rivers and if Nigeria disintegrates, all igbo land would go back to its original owners. And may God help you if you decide to fight for a land were the language they speak isn't urs. The anger of the civil war would be shown in full force on who ever your people are.

Mumu of the highest order. I'm from opobo in rivers state and if the south east wants to break off, we'll follow them. Incase you don't know, many south southerners love the south east except for some who wouldn't make up to 40% of south south population.
