Josh from the illustration given by the op is a bad man whose relationship with Mary is abusive, and his love for her is like a prison of nightmares that anyone would be happy to be freed from. It would be disingenuous for us to say that there is no truth to what the op is saying and to dismiss it as unworthy of deliberation.
However we slice and dice it, the concept of everlasting torture in fire can never be reconciled wih a loving God. Continuing with the analogy of the op, let us assume that Mary owes her existence to Joseph her creator who made her out of clay and gave her the ability to think and feel. Most religions believes that if Mary does not please her master/ creator he has the right to keep her in a furnace that is so hot and painful but incapable of killing her as an everlasting punishment to her disobedience of a few years. How sick is that? To me this is the height of wickedness, bringing someone to existence of your free will and not given the person a choice to stop existing should the person choose to do so.

Until she started noticing gradual change in Josh, he got angry easily these days and sometimes would attempt slapping her out of anger, Josh who usually opened the door for her now went ahead without looking back, he even blamed her when one of his friends slapped her.

In short their relationship can simply be defined now as 'a one sided romance' she knew she had to end it for her own good but how will she go about it.

She had managed to summon enough courage today, called Josh and informed him of her visit.

Josh's face grew blank and red as Mary rented her grievances and told him she wanted a break from the relationship.

She could notice his face twitch and his eyes dimmed and lost it's sparkle. it was hard to place what he really was feeling but she dreaded every second of that moment.

Then Josh spoke, his voice was calm and mild at the same time oozed with every ounce of seriousness.

"Mary i love you so much, i am madly in love with you mary don't leave me because i love you and don't want you to go"

He said holding her shoulders

"I know Josh but i just need...."

"You just need what Mary?" He cut her short "Let me tell you something Mary, if you leave me i will take away everything you hold dear and will surely kill you myself.
If you stay with me i'll save you and you will be safe because i assure you no harm will come to you from me but if you go on with this your act of rebellion i will make your existence a horrible one, don't you see i love you mary?"

He sighs

"It's either you stay with me and love me like i love you or it will turn out ugly" his eyes were cold and she could feel his heart beat freeze.

A chilly cold ran down her spine, she wants to opt out of this relationship but apparently if she did, her life is on the line.

she certainly have no choice here. "How could Josh be this cold, abusive and a cheap blackmailer to get love?" she asked.

Everyone who reads the above story can agree Mary is being abused here by a very dangerous boy friend who is blackmailing her into loving him or she gets murdered.

As bad as this is, this is done globally in a large scale and nobody is seeing anything wrong in that profession of blackmail, act of abuse and show of tyranny.

More than 4 billion people are under the umbrella of such situation in the name of one religious belief or the other.

Almost all the popular world religions boast of a setting where there is a God who loves humanity so much, needs man to conform to his will and love him back, worship him, revere him and be in a one sided relationship with him or He burns them in hell for eternity for choosing to become his enemy by not loving back or conforming obediently to his will.

Is there any difference between Mary's situation and that these religion has dipped their followers in?

I say "No"

Both are abusive, tyrannic, barbaric, sadistic and a petty show of cheap blackmail..

If the basis of your religion is roped around a God who is offering you salvation from his own torture schemes, Is it really really salvation or blackmail?

Is the issue of threat in order to instill conformity to a reciprocation of love really anything near love or just an emotional rape?

Why are the concept of God peddled by these religions subject to such petty tyranny, sadism, abuse and prone to cheap blackmail?

Free choice is not roped with options, when a choice roped within options it is no longer an exercise of free choice but a limited right on what to choose.

If the person offering you salvation is the same person threatening you then it is not salvation, it is an emotional genocide and abuse of an individual's choices..

We have heard reasons from the victims of these religions and their excuses for succumbing to such barbarism in the name of a religious doctrine always rings.

"It is better to believe and be on the safe side than disbelief and risk that torture"

This affirms that the basis of religion isn't really certainty in the actuality of their distinct deities, not Faith as an exercise of this uncertainty but rather fear of the abstract concepts of a torture chamber or the unknown and greed for a blissful paradise.

That fear drives the faith and ensures the stoic clutch to uncertainty.

I have always wondered how such God concepts also claim perfection and omni-everything but still acts with so much childishness and insecurity that even humans cannot stoop that low.

How can there be a perfect God who resorts to cheap blackmail to ensure conformity and still claims a profession of love, that is an insult to the human idea of what Love is or should be.

Now the most unjust part of this setting is that, the victims are always blamed for the actions of the perpetrator.

You get excuses like "God doesn't send you to hell your rebellion does" that is what i call an unparalleled show of unstable wits and pitiful Stockholm syndrome.

Just like the above story, if mary goes ahead and break up with Josh, Josh kills her and then says he wasn't the one that killed mary but rather mary killed herself by deciding to quite their relationship even when he told her that would cost her life.

It is inherently absurd but such abhorrence found in many religious doctrines are rather seen as a moral position, that is one demeaning and dangerous thing about these beliefs.

It ensures the glorification of such absurdity and respect of such unparalleled abhorrence

With just a little knowledge of what Love no human would ever regard such sinister blackmail to be love, Love is not violence and hate, obedience conformity or forceful, threat or ruin and neither is it bloody.

With all said and all known, it is not wrong to admit there are billions of victims of this punny blackmail and abuse but it is always OK when the abuser is claimed to be an alleged universal judiciary.

This is what to mull over, if there is this threat of torture and wrathful violence roped around the concept of God your religion reveres and this also comes with an offer of salvation and love from the wrath and torture schemes of the same God.

If God tells you that if you turn your back on His love and His salvation, then you're road-tripping with the devil and will end up where he is headed -which is hell. How is that emotional blackmail? It is only truth!

Hell was not made for man, it was made for Lucifer and his angels. But those who follow him will end up where he is headed. And making that clear to people is not emotional blackmail or threat, but truth.

Telling people where the bus they're boarding is headed is not blackmail and telling people the destination of the person they're road-tripping with is not threat. It is truth in love. I would want to know.

Am yet to see anyone of this people come up even once to speak against Satan's rebellion or Adam disobedience, or the terrible evil committed by men today, but all I hear since I joined NL and met this people is a Gospel against God.
