Layez, the new or more recent text has a stronger correlation with the recent style of questions and they are more explanatory, New concepts are emphasized in clearer terms....

I have done little researched (I Don enter sites, forums, Google, quora) and confirmed through few practice tests, official gre guide and power prep II, for the quantitative Nova is best to build basics, Gruber 2015 gives you the solving skills you require,the downloaded ets quant shows you how the questions come which are all in Gruber 2015,but overall 5lb Manhattan and Gruber = perfect..

For the reading comprehension I just downloaded the software for the highly talked about coad coax site that was closed down few days ago and trust me it's worth the hype, your eyes would open to RC, for TC and SC I have been using magoosh 2014 videos to know major concepts and practice with Princeton materials, their explanations are very helpful.

I pray God crowns my efforts with success because Verbal no be here oooh.....

I know this feeling. Before leaving for the state, i had no job. I applied to every single advertisement that i could find - nothing. I networked, i called, i wrote, i did everything i could do to get a job - i couldn't get any. I was not lazy nor dumb, but for some weird reasons, i was not getting employed. I dont blame those who come to america and refuse to return to Nigeria. Regardless of the economic opportunities, Nigeria is a very difficult place to live. Jobs are hard, power is a joke, opportunities are difficult and we as Nigerians just dont care. America is the total opposite of that. Yes, there are challenges here, hell, there are challenges everywhere but the difference is over here, your effort is rewarded regardless of your race, colour or social status.

Why am i writing this? I want you to realize that you are not alone. Others have been through the unimaginable but God's favour prevailed. So to all those who think all hope is lost, I want to you to know that no matter what you are going through, remain hopeful, keep trying and pray. God will see you through.

P.s: I applied to five schools and got four rejections in a row. Only my safety school accepted me. I wont lie, my profile wasn't impressive. GRE - 305, GPA - 2.9. If you are getting a steady stream of reject mails, don't loose hope. Spread your applications smartly. Apply to a combination of great schools, average schools and schools that will beg you to attend. It doesnt matter who admits you, When you get here, you can always transfer. However, try as much as possible to secure funding. Studying here is super expensive. If you dont have enough personal funds or assistanship to support you, baba, honestly, you are on your own. I have seen many Nigerians go out of status due to insufficient funds. It is not a palatable experience.

P.s2: naija girls seem to love me more these days. Wetin i never hear? "you have forgotten me abi?", "i miss you", "see as you fresh", "when are you coming back"? Oloshi, who you epp?.

You haven't made a mistake by accepting the admission bro. Have you tried to discuss with the grad-coordinator when such opportunities would be availble. Typically opportunities for funding are available during Fall. Just try to mail the grad guy wella there may be applicants who may not accept their funding offers.

Also what type of funding are you looking at is it a general scholarship that would just defray tuition or any expenses/ or an Assistanship.

Finally, have you tried to contact Professors who are carrying out research in areas you are interested in, they may be willing to fund.


So my advice contact the grad coor. ask when such opportunities may be available. Also try and contact your profs (SirRiddy has a format for such emails).

Hope you applied to other schools? Yu may also need to pay for 1st semester at least if you don't get funded now.

Start sending mails out.

Please face your undergraduate studies and graduate with a good grade. Just read casually for the GRE. Your GPA is more important than any other part of your application. Good luck.

I think the best study material on GRE Mathematics subject test is 'Cracking the GRE Mathematics Subject Test by Steven A. Ledus.'

It covers almost all the aspects which the test is being tested on.
But since you're not coming from a Mathematics background, you need to get some additional materials for your preparation.

The GRE Mathematics Subject Test covers courses like Cal I-IV, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra and a little bit of Topology.

Honestly, this test requires adequate preparation and from someone coming from a CSC background, you need more than three months to prepare for this exam, and preparing for this test alongside your final exams can be very disastrous.
Just as SirRiddy said, it's best to focus on your B.Sc now, then after rounding off, you'll now have the time to prepare for GRE Maths.

All the best, even though this is coming from someone in the same shoe as yours (an undergraduate).

It is not compulsory but it is very advisable so that you do not have to spend more money sending additional test scores to schools. To be on the safe side, I would advise that you come up with a lists of schools you want to apply too and when sending scores on exam day, select and send to 2 safe schools and 2 moderately competitive schools. Unless u currently see urself scoring 170/170 then forget the advise. Otherwise yes, you need to send your scores.
