First, am an undergraduate and 24years of age. Well, I expect to have so level of academic qualification to get there. However, I have a huge chance of working with a Netherland based company; still on the interview process. I have just 3years of professional experience. I'll get there. Thanks.

What's housing and transport cost for both??
What's tax like cos lagos has huge tax oo!!
What's the vision of both cos??

Left to me I ll prefer spending 2yrs at first place of work to get u seasoned and matured.

Your current employer ll respect and value u more!!!

Be wise my bro

Germyu, loyalty is really good, in fact it a honourable thing to be loyal. But if you fail to listen to antiwailer's advice I fear you will have some bitter experience in the nearest future...

Note that, you really don't have to take the other job if it's better for your sanity (to avoid family issues). you also don't need to quit your current job right away. But it's just best looking for a new job really fast.

Best of luck.

Nigerian employers are just slave masters. So someone helps you save $68,000 (13 million naira) and yet you didnt think it right to reward or elevate him until he had a better offer. The way i see it, your boss doesn't care about you, he only care about you not leaving.

This is business, not a love game. Always do what is best for you and your life. Bosses do the same for their business. He wouldn't have cared if u werent adding value to his firm.

Folks talking about staying without good reasons are just used to the slave mentality you find in nigeria. If lagos offers better prospects, leave or negotiate a better deal with ur present employer and make sure it is documented. Though i agree money isnt the ultimate, if your present employment offers a better working atmosphere.. Then fine, stay.

Lastly salary is a trap. Start making plans to someday start up your own biz, maybe in 5yrs time... So start saving the capital now.

Aaaah! already I consult for few companies. But, now I have to take it more serious and bigger. Most importantly leverage on the solution I have built for my company and rewrite it a SaaS(Software as a Service) application. The demand is really much in Africa market.
Thanks

First what is the prospect of the new organization ?

if they are stable, move.

it is not about the money.

Your Boss will never forgive you for ever thinking of moving to a competitor.

Forget the housing allowance and the 50k increment and Dubai ish.

Your boss will simply prepare for your exit and u might never collect any of that allowance.

Let me hint you how it will be done and u can quote me any where . I have seen this happen multiple times.

Once u say goodnight !!!!! Fight the Law of INERTIA and move on.

(I am talking to u as a senior in that field and when I say senior I meant I have over 10years experience in the same field and of course earning more than twice ur new offer in the worst month of the year)

If I may ask u ? What are u doing in a One Man Company if you have such skill set ?

Tell him! Please be the voice of reason here.

It's happened to me also though I'm not in the same field. You see, Nigerians are so afraid of taking calculated risks probably due to the hardship in the country. Out of that fear emanates the advice majority of folks here are proferring.

OP, spread your wings, soar, explore what Lagos the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria has to offer you.

Destiny Calls!

If all you said is true, then you have no business been a employee all you have be is a consultant and work for as many people as you can. Use your talent and set up a consultant firm, I bet more will come for your services.
I see no reason why you help a firm to cut cost to the turn of $68,000 and that same firm can't offer you up to 5,000 dollars per annum.
In summary, you are been used by your present employer and the firm that offered you 350k still want use you.

leave them, let them keep talking about loyalty. Loyalty in a Nigerian firm? Smh.

It's not even about the money in my opinion, it's about development and career. He stands better chance of upping both in Lagos. Let him test his mettle among established acts in his game.

Ok let's look at it from the financial side; the extra 100k equals an extra N1.2 million annually. So if you remove the 500k housing that makes it 700k extra. Then the 2 weeks Dubai trip (I doubt if it would exceed 500k total), it means you'll have like 200k less.

Location wise; Lagos would be far cheaper in terms of accommodation than Abuja. However, there might be more stress from the commuting to and from work (this might not be a problem of you find a suitable accommodation near your workplace).

Finally, looking at the comment from that guy with 10 years experience, I think it's best to move and grab this new opportunity.

I am a software developer, I create amazing things for companies; I have a good portfolio of projects I have developed, my applications are used my hundreds of thousand of Nigerians. I prefer to keep a low profile and my identity hidden.
I'm presently working for a start-up company that has a very huge prospect. This is my Six(6) months of employment and I developed an amazing web portal for the company in the said time. Truth of the matter, no one believed the web portal was ever done in Nigeria because businessmen/employer in the business or domain underestimate local talents; their believe so much in Indian/US software developers. I stopped the company from paying $68,000 to software development company in India. The web portal is now LIVE. grin and we're having huge traffic and good remark about the website.
My CHALLENGE
My currently earning about N200K monthly, and our competitor is offering me a N350K monthly. My boss found out about the offer and call me to a man-to-man private meeting and offer me a N50K salary increment, housing allowance of N500K yearly and 2Week vacation to Dubai.

I presently work in Abuja, while the offer is in Lagos. I love Abuja, but I have feelings for the N350K offer. grin grin
Am afraid of moving to Lagos due to family problems, however it can be prevented If i stay away. Also am still an undergraduate, although I can transfer my study centre to Lagos.

PLS ADVICE
Should I stay with my current employer or move with the new offer?

Pls ignore my typos. Thanks.

Your current boss is smart.

The two offers are now equal in value. N500k house allowance plus N700,000 dubai vacation yearly amounts to the excess N100k per month on the Lagos offer.

Please remain in Abuja. If ever you want to change ur job, it shouldn't be relocating to Lagos.

Waking up as early as 4am to beat traffic, returning home by 9/10pm because of same traffic.

Moreover, your current Job has lots of prospects attached to it. There's room for a better package from them/even a better offer in Abuja.

The new offer may not accord you the chance to further ur education also. If i were you, i would settle with my present Job.

And for the fact that you LOVE abuja may just be a sign that it's ur LOCATION (u're at thr right place).

Most of us are relocating/Rushing to Lagos because of the Job prospects their NOT MINDING IF THAT IS WHERE GOD WANTS US TO RESIDE.

seems it will pay you more staying at your current job, when you consider
- initial cost of housing in Lagos
- cost in time & money of transferring your study to Lagos
- Dubai vacation
- You prefer abuja
- peace of mind from family
GOOD TALK; FINISH YOUR STUDIES FIRST AT ABUJA, BEFORE GOING TO (LAGOS) SKYE HAS NO LIMIT
WHEN YOU GET TO LAGOS YOU WILL SEE MORE BRILLIANT PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO COMPETE.

Doubt the truthfulness of your claim, where in Nigeria will an undergraduate earn N200k per month? Perhaps you aren't telling us other qualifications or competencies you've acquired before now.
