Don't we have PDP to challenge dem on dis? Who will support d opposition protest? PMB did what GEJ could not achieve. That is maturity! That is stability!! That governance!!!

No matter the price of a barrel of oil, the price remains the same: Despite the rise and falls of crude oil prices from time immemorial, the price of petrol, diesel and kerosene has never come up or down in response to the crude oil price! Instead, it slowly and constantly creeps higher every single year. Diesel was deregulated in 2009 and sold for about N90 (See pic below). Today diesel retails for between N125-135 per litre. Why has the price been going up consistently?

When the raw material for a particular good falls as sharply as crude oil has, the cost of producing that good also falls. The price of PMS fell in other countries. Nigeria is an exception because the fall in the naira wrt dollar evened things up.

5 seed of tomatoes N400
Fuel now N145
One congo of rice N500

All these things on top . N18,000

God please we need you.
Wait lemme ask modath and omenka, am very sure they receive their supplies directly from Aso rock, (at least aisha's rice is free! ) , that's why they observe the goings-on through disillusioned lenses and make comments that aren't in touch with reality.
Posterity wouldn't be a nice judge on you.... .I see you folks have gone a little quiet, tired of defending a government only you can fathom out of 180million Nigerians? See ur life?

Madam you are wrong, Mrs Iyoyo!

You are trying to generate revenue for the Federal Government!

The latest prices published the correct amount to dispense products was somewhere around 99 naira, so where did the additional 45 naira appear from?

Who are you to put a maximum price?

Filling stations in my area were selling for 130, now they'll increase theirs to maybe 160-200,

At a time where tomatoes is selling for 4 "seeds " 200N
Dollar exchanging for over 320 (Parallel market)
Basin of Garri is now 3k as against 1k5
Rice is now. 16-17k a bag.
But Workers salaries remain the same!

This is so so wrong. They should be looking at increasing our refineries capacity or even privatising the refineries rather than pegging price.

Very dumb decision if you ask me!

My question is, has subsidy been removed? Cos i didn't see that clearly stated in that press release. I'll hate to hear subsidy is being paid while we buy at this price.

Where is oga Tom West and Fashola the lawyer that doesn't sign cheques but could calculate how Goodluck should have sold fuel for #40. Hypocrisy everywhere.

NLC and TUC quiet am I missing something?

It's been long I heard SAI BABA though.

NLC and TUC are pressure arm of APC. They have been bought. You won't expect them to protest. It is good for all the change agents. Tomorrow they say Buhari has integrity, a man that lies pass devil. Only God can save the innocent ones from APC evil.

FUEL SUBSIDY: TO OUR VOMIT, WE HAVE RETURNED
On January 1, 2012, that is FIFTY-TWO MONTHS AND TEN DAYS ago, a certain Goodluck Jonathan, having the misfortune of being president of this geographical contraption called Nigeria, removed subsidy on premium motor spirit and the country went into turmoil and conflagration, literally.

Today, a certain Mohammadu Buhari, the man who inherited the misfortune, after dilly-dallying for months has done same. After months of pain, anguish and billions lost to social and economic dislocation, the president has done the RIGHT thing.

The difference, however, is that while the nation was brought to her knees in 2012, she won't this time. There won't be a total shutdown of the country. NLC won't call for strike. Human and civil rights activists won't occupy Ojota. Pastor Tunde Bakare is not likely to lead any protest. In short, Nigerians will gladly accept.

Let me say this: I support removal of fuel subsidy. Fully. But why should we allow naked politics to make us waste FOUR years in the nation's economic life? Why did we oppose this thing then when many of those who opposed it knew it was the right thing to do? Can those who congregated in Ojota in 2012 cover their faces in shame? If they support subsidy now, can they justify opposition to it in 2012? Are we aware that fuel could have been selling as low as N50 per litre now? Are we aware that the N145 limit set now by NNPC was the same that was set in 2012?

I can go on. Those who led opposition against removal of subsidy in 2012; a president who once said he did not believe there was anything called subsidy, politicians who capitalised on it four years ago will be justifying it in the days to come. Same Facebook activists who raked against it will be explaining to us why it was the best thing to do. Truly, they are right. But at what cost to this nation?

I am afraid. This nation might never be great again. I am not placing a curse but plainly being realistic!

The price of petrol cannot reduce! Here's why:

1. Marketers will source their own dollars: Petroleum Minister of State Ibe Kachikwu announced that Marketers will have to source their own dollars to buy PMS. i.e. Dollars will not be sold to them at CBN rate of N200. Nairaland's daily update of exchange rates lets us know that $1 trades for upwards of N300. For those who don't know, PMS is traded internationally in US Dollars. This means Petrol Marketers will have to spend Dollars to buy this product from traders/refineries abroad, and then come and sell in Naira. Having bought Dollars for N300, will they come back and make a loss? You guess is as good as mine.

Solutions: 1. CBN dollar monopoly must be halted! Surely it benefits many CBN heads from (now) Saint Sanusi to Soludo but you cannot have one body determining who gets a critical business resource, especially in an import dependent economy like Nigeria's. Henry Boyo's writings are instructive here.

2. Deregulation should only occur when there is sufficient and diverse local refining capacity. If multiple companies are able to refine they will be required to sell at a competitive prices, just to stay in business. Why can't you apply the subsidies to local refiners until you have reached refining capacity to meet demand?

3. Remove a regulator like PPPRA setting or suggesting prices: PPPRA also releases 'templates' to guide petroleum prices. This is similar to pure water which sells for N10 regardless of manufacturer. Ask yourself- how come all pure water sells for the same price?? Little known to the public, ATWAP (Association of Table Water Producers) actually sets the price in Nigeria and enforces it! ( Read this and be educated https://www.nairaland.com/418542/pure-water-biz-discuss/20 ) How can there be a free competitive market with marketers forced to retail at 'not above N145?

4. God bless Nigeria!

You forgot to mention that the naira will crash further, yet someone posted a thread about how the signing of the budget will crash the dollar

True. Petrol was $3.80 here in the US last year but now some are selling for less than $2.20 per gallon (3.78 liters)

So after all the promises of building refineries and having no need to remove the subsidy, dey eventually removes it.. I clearly remember not long ago Kachikwu saying petrol won't sell for more than 90 even if subsidy is removed.. D confusion of dis govt is Epic...

We already know the science behind why fuel can't be reduced. But you will be surprised to know what the CBN is doing with the little dollar in its possession.

Infact , what we need is a total reversal to 86 or 87 naira. Anything short of that, then this govt is a fraudster. What we need in this country is a leader who is truthful and not a bloody liar like Buhari. Most of the problem he's facing today existed before he came on board, yet he and his APC kept promising trash they can't fulfill.

Soon....them salesmen would be outdoing one another to see who can sell at the lowest price possible.

Who will compete with who? These independent marketers have a solid union. They will fix their uniform prices and there is nothing anyone can do. Why has diesel prices remain in the same price band ever since? Crude has fallen, deregulated diesel should also have fallen at least to give us an indication how PMS will be but reverse is the case.

Do not raise your hope high bros. A country founded on greed from top to bottom cannot be trusted. Good policies work else where but never work in this country. mark this post, we are not gonna see any benefit of this shit.
