Purpose

The purpose of this thread is to help aviation enthusiasts and fans get answers to aviation related matters by asking a commercial pilot.

About me

By the special grace of God, I'm a first officer on a Boeing 777-200LR. I was previously a first officer on a Boeing 737-800 (Next Gen) so I know one or two things about flying. I look forward to interacting with all aviation fans and fellow aviation professionals here

My colleagues like olisa4all from the rotary wings branch , (helicopter pilots) are on hand to answer your questions too.

1. As an Electrical/Electronics Engineering graduate, what is the most cost effective way of becoming a pilot?

2. Why are pilots assigned to a specific airplane?

3. Does the mode of operation of different airplanes vary greatly? Like can you fly just about anything flyable after probably going through the manual?

Boeing and Airbus are both aircraft manufacturers.

The Dreamliner is the name of an aircraft manufactured by Boeing.

Usually the cockpit is secured from inside because of security concerns especially when air borne.

If that unfortunate event happens and a passenger can access the cockpit, he can be guided to land the plane, that's 50/50.

However, the likelihood of that happening is extremely slim.

Landing aircraft generally follows a common procedure but differs by each aircraft and landing conditions.

2. Aircraft are very complex equipment so for it to be operated safely, the pilots have to be trained for that specific aircraft. For a pilot to operate an equipment, he must have a certain number of hours on it before being certified.

Technically yes. But some airlines have "Senior first officers" *These ones have three and half bars the reason is because they are due to be promoted as Captain but no space yet but the three and half bars ain't common though as very few airlines do this.

Commercial airlines are mostly made up of passenger airlines like Emirates etc, cargo airlines like cargolux and private charter services.

The cruising altitude is dependent on several factors including how high the aircraft can fly, assigned altitude and flight plan but there's separation between aircraft to avoid collision.

Ok...I really meant cargo aircrafts. Guess the answer remains the same. Moving on.......are airstrips "weight rated"?....like allow for the safe landing of planes including cargo up to a certain weight?

The runway has to be able to withstand the stress of heavy impact landing

Try to have insiders that will let you know know when they are recruiting, I think I have seen a few adverts though however it's faster if you are already type rated as it saves the airline money

My best was my first solo flight, that's where it all began. My worst was a cross wind landing, we had to abort the landing thrice and finally landed at the fourth attempt.

Good day Captain, please what's with the turbulence when airplanes pass through clouds and how do you guys navigate through. I had a very terrible experience in one some years back. More grease to your elbow and aircraft.
