I guess it all depends on the candidate's composure, don't make an impression that the job is the last resort you have else you'll be trampled upon, show confidence not pride and also, don't stuttering, stare at the HR face like you've got all it takes, HRs tends to show a know all attitude, prepare well for every question related and sometimes outside the job description using expertise English... Follow these and you'll be fine, HRs are not gods, you are.
saw your pm? hope no pro?

"Cutting one short while he is talking during interview" is part of the test. It is proper to cut people short severally during interview.
This is a test of team work spirit (how you manage your nerves when team members disagree with you) and anger suppression/management (when in argument with colleagues).

Been there,
Note: I studied chemistry, applied for a CSO job.
The interviewer asked me, if he had 20 million to give me, what business will iIinvest it in.
The second was, if Lagos state government gave me all the Windows in lagos to wash, how much will i charge?.
At this point I wasn't sure anymore if the post iapplied for was cleaner or business developer. I just weak.
Not to worry, he answered the questions by himself, the guy was a talkative. ishhhhh.!!.

Do u know that in this ala bekee wey I dey, if u hv an invitation for interview, u can decide to postpone it to ur convenience. I once attended an interview in lagos those days, immediately I walked in, the hr noticing me as a physically challenged person, she was so blunt to tell me that my type of person is not needed in her company. I felt so bad and hopeless, when I came here, I submitted my cv in one IT company, indicating in my cv my physical nature, I was invited for an interview, the morning I was suppose to attend the interview, the company called me that they are sending a taxi to come fetch me, I went there like a king coming out smiling.

Talking too much. I've attended an interview where d interviewer was the one asking the questions and talking through the answer. This was how the interview went

Interviewer: tell me what previous experience you have for this job? Cos I can see from ur CV u haven't worked in this type of position before and we need someone with at least 2years experience working in this role or something similar to it.well let me assume you are a fast learner because without that quality u won't b able to survive in this job

For my mind I was like Nor be me suppose dey talk all these ones
That was why he said MOST not ALL of them

The last interview I went on was somehow funny. The lady was just frowning like I won't give u this job no matter what u say. I mean why frown like we having an argument when we supposed to be having a smile filled discussion? I didn't get the job and I didn't die. tongue

Some of these interviewers can be so mean. That was how i went for an interview that was scheduled for 10am, the interviewer arrived by 2pm and couldn't even apologize.

I was once in an interview room, where the interviewer who was not an expert in my field ask me a question and I gave him the answer and he replied me with another answer.... I replied him in a calm way that his anwser is not meant for the scenario that is subject of discussion... he sylishly look back at his booklet and realised his mistake.... but he would not admit it and use style to shove it aside..... one thing about Nigerian interviewers is that they are not interactive... test is different from interview.

and that makes you fulfilled, shey?

Why shouldn't he be fulfilled? I can bet you're a HR person. Do you know if he would have gotten the job if the Lady had listened to him with rapt attention? Sometimes, we need to let go of our attachment to things when we're in the job sphere. For Christ's sake, she was employed to bring in best qualities to the firm and not to ping on her job. Bros or Sis, that attitude is annoying. I would do same if I was treated that way.

Everyone blames an applicant for not making the most of the opportunity he or she has when in front of an interviewer. Sadly, no one has deemed it fit to beam the searchlight on the interviewer—some Nigerian HR persons can be damn rude sometimes. Most HR persons like playing “god”—can’t blame though, the economy is in a terrible shape. It is a world where an applicant is always at the mercy of the employer. Here are seven annoying things Nigerian interviewers do when interviewing an applicant.

Keeps you waiting without a word of apology
The letter asking you to attend an interview or chat states that the interview is for 9 am in the morning—and you are there before the set time. However, some HR person playing “god” walks into the venue by 10 am without a word of apology and acts like you are a-nobody. I mean this is typical of most Nigerian employers.

Talks down on you
Some HR persons would talk down on you and treat you like you are a nobody. It had to be said that no responsible company employs interviewers that treat candidates badly.

Acts like he was not once an applicant
It is so disheartening that some HR persons act like they were not once in your shoes (na your papa get the company?). They not only talk down on you, but expect you to act like a superhuman who has answers to everything about the company.

Cuts you off when you are speaking?
Lousy HRs don’t know a jack about manners—and that’s why they treat applicants like they are beneath them in status. They ask a question, and before you could finish offering an explanation—they cut you off without offering any form of apology.

Don’t Know a Jack about the job he/she is interviewing you for
It is not so difficult to know if an interviewer has little or no knowledge about the job he/she is interviewing you for. Anyone involved in an interview process should be as prepared as you are when interviewing you—regardless of whether it is his field or not.

Comes to an interview unprepared
Most HR persons don’t read through an applicant’s CV before the ‘D-day—ugh! When an interviewer starts asking you to tell him about yourself or ask you to walk him through your resume. They have no questions about your background because they have never given it a moment’s thought—this is absolutely unacceptable.

You can add yours.
This is the same reason why I chose Human Resources as a career path despite being a science graduate. Guess what? 50% of interviews are not conducted properly. As a human resources specialist, treat every candidate fairly. Who knows, they might become prospective customers or shareholders in the nearest future. But because of the high rate of unemployment, they become these demi-gods who carry a heavy chip on their shoulders. Also the same reason why I've cautioned my self to never behave like most of my interviewers did when I get there.

Unless you have been to an interview outside the country I don't think you have the right to suggest it's a Nigerian thing. Just maybe it's almost a common practice.
Dude, I put it to you that it's a Nigerian thing and other countries experiencing a soft economy: high unemployment rate. There is an abundance of job seekers out there, one of the reasons for their sometimes unprofessional behavior. But in nations with low unemployment rate, the reverse is the case. Someone doesn't have to go outside Nigeria to know this.

I'm far from what you think. Infact, i'm less than 2months into my first job. But you know what they say, "an eye for an eye makes the world go blind". What if she had paid attention, and at the end he did not get the job?. My take ehn, he should have left her to learn her lesson in a different way, not to have necessarily contributed to her downfall just because she disrespected him.

Congratulations on your job.
Thanks for understanding my drift. But you see, it would have been better she listened and the guy failed than acting like the guy was a nobody. Personally, I would take it that I didn't do well because I wasn't given an audience. Simple! Mind you, the guy didn't send the letter to get her sacked. He might have done so to thank the firm for an opportunity for an interview invite and also give reasons to why he feels he wasn't considered - the pinging HR, and hope for reconsideration.
As for her sack, I'm not happy she was treated that way, but we should learn to value our work - a lot of persons are out there hoping for that position.
