Headline inflation rose to 15.6% in May , relative to April figure at 13.7%.
In addition:

The significant spike in inflation, in the month of May, can be credited to increases in all divisions that contribute to the headline inflation metric. The Communication segment recorded the lowest movement having increased by 0.4% to 5.0%. The Core, Food and Imported Food segments rose to 15.1% (+1.7%), 14.9% (+1.7%) and 18.6% (+2.2%) respectively.

The surge in Core inflation is credited to hikes in cost of Liquid Fuels (Premium Motor Spirit and Kerosene), which impacted prices of Personal Transport Equipment with a spill over effect on other divisions. Consequently, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other fuel division recorded the highest increase jumping from 19.0% to 22.0%.

WSTC Financial services Limited --- Inflation spikes further to 15.6%
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please click the link " http://www.wstc.com.ng/uploads/reports/May%202016%20Inflation.pdf " to access our report on the May 2016 inflation figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Highlight:
Headline inflation, measured by the Year-on-Year (YoY) change in the All-items Consumer Price Index (CPI), surged by 1.9 percentage points (pp) to 15.6 per cent in May from 13.7 per cent in April; over 6-year high. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the upsurge in the headline index in May was due to increase in general price levels across all divisions that contribute to the headline index..

Analysis:

The Headline index maintained its uptrend for the fourth consecutive month with a steep rise to 15.6 per cent as a cocktail of cost-push forces continued to exert upward pressure on general prices. According to data supplied by the NBS, the highest price increases in the month were recorded in the Housing water, Electricity & Utilities and the Imported food sub-division which we attribute to increases in electricity & other energy prices and foreign exchange volatility.

Expectation:

We expect inflationary pressure to persist through the year. We believe the prevailing inflationary forces which include the recent 67 per cent hike in PMS price, increase in electricity tariff and other energy prices, as well as foreign exchange volatility will continue to drive increases in general prices in the near term. Thus, we expect inflation to remain at elevated levels in the months ahead.

Please follow the link " http://www.wstc.com.ng/uploads/reports/May%202016%20Inflation.pdf " to view the whole report.

Thank you.

GTB has not paid. I contacted Datamax Registrars and they blamed the uncertain foreign exchange regime for the delay. They promised to credit investors account as soon as the issues involved were resolved.

Thanks a lot.

Did they announce the Dividend Per Share (D.P.S. ) for the GDR at all?

They are probably waiting for a favourable rate regime. I know the amount in Dollars must be huge considering the fact that the final divided was above one Naira, the highest so far (I think).

I hope this is resolved soon.

Issues like this drive foreign investors (portfolio and direct) away. They are not sure of repartriating their funds when needed.

Acquistion bid is really on the horizon. Heard there was a proxy fight in the last AGM which ended up badly. Result sheets were torn etc.

Warring parties are out there buying. Who know where (the price) this will lead to. Another Ikeja hotel loading
