I got 2330/2400...using old SAT scoring system. Obviously my SAT score got me admissions with full scholarships to all three best engineering schools in US...CALTECH, MIT and Georgia Tech. Best decision I ever made was to go to CALTECH; my parents were leaning more to MIT for the name.

Difference of 70 marks..

You are too much.!!!

Very smart move bro!
The problem is that by Monday, the exchange may change to another value based on the new CBN policy and market rate.
I'll go to the bank first thing Monday morning and pray I get the same rate.
Thanks for sharing.

sofadj:

I was at UBA yesterday to do the transfer of funds from my account to school's account via Flywire
So I filled the Form A yesterday and added my documents

Me: Have you made any transfer to Flywire before
Bank: Yes, I have done a couple of them.
Me:How long will it take for my transfer to get approved and get sent
Bank: She smiled as if to say that's a Jamb question
Me: I know it depends on several factors but what is the average duration
Bank : I can't say exactly but it wouldn't take time anymore as the long scrutiny wouldnt be needed anymore. The CBN has removed the restriction of Dollar transfer. Hence no more official rate
Me: (Cuts in sharply) Does that mean I wont get this funds transferred at official rate of 199NGN
Bank : Yes it means the rate is subject to forces of demand and supply
Me: (Sounding dissapointed) In that case there may not be need for this again
Bank: Relax I will check the current rate for you
She then typed some things on her system and said : the current rate is 199NGN
Me: Is there any form of rationing done based on the demand for dollars
Bank: In the past ..Yes. But now... No as the restrcitions has been removed. If you have your money you get the amount of dollars you requested for.
She then scanned my documents and sent to Head Office.
Bank: You will get the debit alert once it's complete, but I have already generated the code for you at 199NGN.

I contacted the school made them know I had ordered some amount actually much more than my tuition to be transferred into my Student Account via Flywire to be used for Tuition,Living Expenses, Books and Insurance. I then asked how the credit balance will be refunded.
Here is their response:

To those here have experience of applying for LLM in the USA:
Are law school transcripts required? I know if you send them, they will not be rejected, but are they compulsory? I know a couple of people doing LLM in Canada, who did not have to send law school transcripts. I am wondering if it's the same for the USA.
Thanks.

Well ....i would say preferably get a sponsor and also put that u will be part self sponsored. It rarely that u are asked for bank statement and all u mainly asked is who sponsoring u and what does the person do. Although u are also required to put their details on d ds160 form.

It just carries more weight if u have a sponsor plus urself. That is not to say u cannot get f1 visa been self sponsored . U can.... however if it was me i would prefer to list a sponsor in addition.

I cant really explain why sha

At the end of the day either way self or with sponsor it doesn't matter , it boils down to favor sha from God......

I actually bought mine on Copart, I bought it at their facility in Minneapolis, but you can choose to buy from other facilities in other states or any state close to your own state, then you go and pick it up

Wo God bless you my sister.. That babe can so like to run her mouth.mtschew. who wants to see your "godamn" ******* passport (in i go dyes voice)..something wey we dey hide here. I deliberately quoted this post from msnas cos no one said nothing about it... If its dickoflife, gunther nd co una go don dey run una mouth, well maybe because the babe has promised to sell dollar to some people lol.. You will become a USC in 3 months and you're here dragging f1 with us and asking when to enter the usa ( meanwhile you will become a USC come September). Your royal majesty, I salute.
MsNas:

Busted!!! So you skipped being PR and jumped straight to citizenship abi? You must think all of us on this thread are dumbasses! cheesy How did your mom file for citizenship for you? It's either she filed a petition for you to become a green card holder first or you become a citizen automatically through your parents who were citizens (even though you were born in Nigeria, they just need to file some paperwork, apply for a CRBA(Consular Report of Birth Abroad) if you're under 18 or a Certificate of Citizenship if you're over 18 and you become a citizen as well). I'm pretty sure if the latter is the case, you will know. If you will be a USC in 3 months, why did you not wait until then before you go to grad school instead of hustling for student visa in Nigeria and pay international student fees when you could pay lesser. Even if my Dad was Dangote, I would prefer to wait three months and have the luxury of going to school as a USC, common sense na, lol. Either ways, your story has holes. Small small on this thread abeg!

I am a regular traveler too, and not once has anybody requested to see my Nigerian passport. Haba now!!!

I have a limited idea about working independently "independent contractor" whereby the company u work for don't withhold taxes and other things from ur wages/paychecks. Pls who has an idea, I tried Google but I need a specific info. Any former independent contractor here?? Thanks

Richmond, you are right in your little explanation. You just work for the company and at the end of the month you present you invoice (net of tax) and collect your money in cash or check.

What exactly(else) do you want to know about "independent contractor "? You can also refer to it as independent consultant

Let me throw more light, its a delivery job, we get paid electronically (direct deposit) by tips from the customer. Am just asking cause of tax and stuffs, am not cut out to do pay rolls and compute tax info I know accountants can help but...... In general is it really advice able to be an independent contractor "considering that at the end I will still remit tax to d govt", its a part time stuff the tips can be shitty sometimes but on a good day people tip $5 and above. Sometimes if d order is expensive the customer must tip handsomely. Am just concerned about the tax thing, I have made about $1k since march. Do I even get to have a tax break abi later they will milk away all my money, I don't want to make a lot of money by d end of the year so I could either pay less or no tax.

It would be too close, it can take 1 -3 business day to clear and be reflected. I would say let there be at least 3 to 4 days in between payment and interview .

Why can't you write GRE and Toefl, try to score high and apply for masters. Importantly, you will write good statement of purpose telling the school why your cgpa is low and you have leant your lesson and you promise to make them proud of u..

@Don4ye is so right....i had a friend with this issue. She read so hard for GMAT and TOEFL and had a paragraph in her SOP how she fell but learnt from it and picked herself up...... it was then not an issue at all especially if u can get good test scores . She did MBA is a good program in d states like 4 yrs ago and is currently working on h1b visa..

Thanks. For the GRE I scored 311 (verbal 159 quant 152) and 4.0 in analytical writing. I may not be able to help you much on the mode of application because I applied for Public health which is done thru SOPHAS (a centralized application service for all accredited schools of public health). Your dept will have their admission requirements on the school website so I think you should check it out. Emory is a wonderful school for health related courses so good choice. Good luck on the process.
Nice of you to reply.I think the requirements for admission are almost same with other unis for phD programs. i.e transcripts, letters of recommendation, personal statement etc.(donno if it's same as public health).I was getting a bit scared since there was almost no mention of the university on this forum and I also searched current students for my program at the schl.unfortunately,I couldn't find a Nigerian on list..so I was pondering if it was a no go area for Nigerians..but seeing your post cleared my view a bit.

Isn't the same US citizens that I hustle job for in Hong Kong and Singapore through a friend even went as far as explaining to them on the phone the communication pattern of the Asians? You may just have to leave this citizen stuff alone for now for it doesn't guarantee maximum life satisfaction. Everyone has its own headache coz human wants are unlimited.

My problem in life has always been because I have too many high taste and don't usually settle for less and sometimes i'm sensitive.

I've never been one, but have friends who are.. As an independent contractor, you get a 1099 at the end of the tax year. Typically you don't pay as much in taxes as would an employee if you're not making a lot of money. Just remember to pay estimates to the IRS every quarter or you would get a huge bill from them. Remember since none of your income is withheld, you 'enjoy' the full salary and pay up later and of course you wouldn't expect a refund smiley
