truthsayer007:Smh.....You should try to find out more about a concept before coming online to disgrace yourself Even from ur second sentence it's very obvious you don't know what gender equality entails Domestic abuse and child marriages are all part of the things that make up the fight for gender equality. So before you quote me again, do urself a favour by researching the whole concept before embarrassing urself on a public forum! Gracias |

It's in our favour as a man if we can achieve equality of gender, that will reduce our burden as a man since it's now 50/50,... Even the resources needed to run the home |

Dorobuccii: Look here, I know all what you are saying feminist like you are just using Child Marriage as an excuse to push other demise of your Genger Equality bullshit. A minimum age of child before marriage can be put into Law by the Govt. (Simple and Short) - without any gender equality bullshit. Who says Women and Men are not receiving equal treatment in the society ? Is in Workforce or in Politics? Because as far as I know, there are prominent Women in politics that are doing well. And as work is concerned, your remuneration depends on your productivity. Not on Gender. You can be anything you want to be (Man or Woman), nobody is stopping you. Mind you ! The same way this push is going, before you know it, lesbian women, gay men, bisexuals and transgenders in Nigeria will start pushing for their own Equality Rights too. It has happened in other countries, We have seen what led to it. 2 Likes |

Gender equality is not a womans issue , it a human issue,, it affects us all......It means the views of both men and women should receive same treatment and to stop violence and discrimination against women . Today women compete with men to take on jobs, However they must take care of their household needs before doing so.. Women are personification of courage and determination...............although I've seen some good men dropping their children off at the minder , schools , feeding them, cooking even washing dishes while their wives are at work .. or if they have to work long hours. In terms of employment discrimination....Gendered arrangement of work , care and plan........ just cus a woman is pregnant , nursing a baby or starting a family does not mean she has to loose her job or cannot apply for some jobs she is qualified for....The worst is not being allowed to have kids while in some employment......while in some part of the world you will see a 7 month pregnant lady on TV interviewing people , reading the news and doing it so well...not by limiting them cus of this or that. in terms of work place..as in ideal worker or committed worker....a man can work fulltime for 40 years straight .. while most women are not able to conform to the ideal worker role cus they are expected to fulfil their caretaker role and take time off for domestic reasons ..pregnancy, ill family member etc. Gender equality is also trying to change that for women so they are allowed to have time off and to understand and work round them... that will encourage a lot of nursing women to work. to stop harmful practises to girls and women .. to let them have a say......such Female Genital mutilations , forced feeding, forced abortions, forced marriages...bride price and marital power.. is included because some men feel they own the women and subject them to all kinds of abuse ( marital rape, Domestic violence, abuse on requirement to bear children, society stigma and preventing them from leaving abusive marriages..........because they paid their bride price..... women being unable to ask hubby to use condom .. rather than her taking pills due to her health conditions.....reproduction decisions .. etc to stop dominance over women... men should not be allowed to molest women in any way or form either at home , work and in public .. just cus a woman dresses certain way or drunk does not give men the right to touch her.... beating women...s3x without consent or forced s3x, to encourage abused women to speak out ... law and protection for them. .. employers to stop using women as s3x tools to promote their businesses.. to stop sexual advances towards women at work.... women trafficking.... baby factory etc Women want to be well represented in their parliaments and in decision making of the country...not that they want to take over... as in political participation. The Gender equality bill is needed to enable women contribute more to development of a nation without any form limitation , fear or discrimination, and to stop exploitation of women by making them aware of their rights.. Most men already encourage Gender equality without even realising it ... e.g 1* A couple working ,the man sharing chores and running of their home so that wifey could go to work............No 2 is where the problem lies >Wifey working without the fear of discrimination, exploitation, abuse, unable to reduce her hours to see more of hers kids or start a family , unable to run her home properly, advances from male bosses , fear of losing her job, argument with hubby cos of work and money problems .... should also be the hubbys worry too etc. 3( Most modern day men will never allow their daughter to be subjected to the above.. some even train their daughters like sons This is not about disobeying your hubby or being the head of your family.... It might not be happening where you are but it is still happening indirectly or directly in some part of the country. 3 Likes |

truthsayer007: If according to you, everything is all rosy for the for women folks then what else are feminists pushing for? abi why push for equality rights if according to you we have equal rights? Truth is only men and women who don't understand what equal treatment means will say men and women are entitled to the same rights. And mind you, that something is written on paper doesn't necessarily mean it is practiced So I put it to you once again that you should find out what we are really fighting for |
Re: Lady Blasts Olori Wuraola And Freeze Over Gender Equality In Open Letter by mpowa(m): 9:09am On Jun 20, 2016 |
Dorobuccii: That's exactly what the problem is, what are you people fighting for, state it, if you can't state it clearly that everyone would understand, then, you have no point, I don't understand how people can be fighting for battles that doesn't exist, If you say it exists and you can't state it, then there's a problem, don't say people should go and research, you want to change something, give us information, we can even help you to achieve it, because right here in Nigeria, women are not limited educationally, politically, in career or anything. If you talk about Violence on women or abuse, you don't need equality bill for that, there are bills already to protect women, what you activists should do is ensure they are enforced where they're not, because even if you have the gender equality bill, you'll face the same problem of implementation, bill doesn't change anything, implementation is the real deal, I'm in support of fight for the right of women and all, but this gender equality thingin has an unknown agenda - If you have problem with your gender, talk to God, don't fight men, If you're not comfortable with the role of women in marriage - don't get married, it's not by force(and leave the women who are enjoying their marriage in peace), If you say you like how's being done in the western world - Go there and don't come back, our society must remain intact, no yama-yama. 1 Like |

Dorobuccii: I never said everything is all rosy for Women folks, I just want you to know we pass through the same issues as women in terms of Work, Education and Politics. The most gender based oppression in Africa is marriage issue and domestic violence happenings, which i agree about that one. Because we have plenty traditions. You need to first abolish all those traditions first. |

I think Lailan and Uche Jumbo are not very wise. Olori is the wife of Ooni of Ife, who is seen as one of the major custodians of Yoruba culture and the last I remembered, Yoruba culture doesn't cater to gender equality. Honestly, if the Olori said she believed in gender equality, I would have suspected her account was hacked. |

mpowa:you have spoken well, but I grew up in naija and because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it's not happening else where, I for one know why until now, a woman is not completely settled in her matrimonial home until she has a male child, my tribe and some tribes I know still practice it,infact my grandfather once said a female child is the responsibility of the mother, all my aunties were not sponsored beyond primary 6,and even when he died, they never got any single property even if there where enough lands to go round, I know if my dad should die today, only my brothers will get access to my dad's things. There are so many tradition that seems to limit the female gender that's my concern, some traditions forbid their daughters from leaving their matrimonial home even if they are battered by their husbands, I know a neighbor who died because of the so called tradition.I for one don't intend to compete with my future husband, all I am interested in is to know that my rights as a human being is protected and not treated lesser because the tradition says so |
