Igbiboi:

De way to go about it is this: first get a school in the USA for example you can get admission into technology management (which BTW, at Uni Bridgeport has the highest Nigerian student concentration) at UB for university of Bridgeport. Then after your first semester hopefully you will be able to get good grades, then using the grades you got at UB you can then transfer to another school that offers your course. I think University of Massachussets Lowel offer courses in renewable energy in the dept of mechanical engineering. You may check them out, but I'm almost certain they will not give u admission because of GP matter.

I know UB, as I was once at the school before I later transferred out. And secondly, if u don't know anybody in the U.S. You've to first go to the school that will be easier for you to survive and after geting the orientation about USA then you can go to those places which are more alien to your culture. Even though Texas has a lot of Nigerians there, I know UB will be easy for you to adapt because of its high Nigerian student population, the downside is that it is in Connecticut and during winter Connecticut gets so freezing, sometimes it could get as low as -7 degrees.
But atleast what your going for will be related. Am going for Environmental Science and can't find anything related to that in the school.

Well, you can do whatever thing that suits you. I advised you to the best of my knowledge because I noticed your monicker as the guy that gave me hint me on IERF so I reciprocated the gesture. All in all, just a final word... As someone who schooled in the states and has helped people, I can tell you that your GPA is really low, and the only remedy to it will be to get a gre score of more than 60% in quant analysis, hopefully, with that you may be able get into a second tier univ. But bear in mind that getting admission into any school in USA is not the real deal, sure, there are some schools that will offer you admission even with that your GPA, but the bigger deal is: can you get visa with those schools?

I remember a friend of mine who so disturbed me last year, I begged him to calm down and take the GRE, but just like many Nigerians I got a hell NO as an answer. Well, I managed to get him admission into housatonic college in Connecticut, to cut the long story short he was flatly denied visa at the embassy, and the VO indicated that the reason is because the school he has is just a mere community college. Now the guy is getting prepared for his gre. So just follow your mind.
Regards

Fizzile--

I would suggest you make use of igbiboi's advise - the guy apparently knows what he is saying.

See, Technology Management is more like an MBA for technical people. It has several branches such as project management, statistics, supply change etc. Simply, it's a form of interdisciplinary program and I strongly suggest that you consider it. It is possible to be working on a masters degree in Technology Management with a research interest in environmental science. It is doable.

It's hard to read this but why should you tell lie(s)
You should know why you chose a school in the first place

Hello guys,i want to clarify, if i secure an F-1 student visa and get to the US, is it possible not to show up at the school due to the high school fees and just find my way??!!!

No. If you don't attend classes then you are a SEVIS violator and in the country illegally. If you are found, you will be deported, and even if you leave voluntarily, chances are low that you will be granted another visa in the future.

The purpose of the student visa is to attend the school you stated you would attend - not to "find your way"

please kindly advise me........

I was assured a USA visiting visa and the uncle told me that i could easily change the visiting visa to a student one by immediately applying to an institution on getting there.

1. my question is, how truth, easy and sure is this?
2. can a 28 year old with a 2year diploma from an IT institution and with a good WAEC result since 2005 get an undergraduate admission?

all advise would be highly appreciated!

God bless you all[quote author=success2000 post=47091790]

Better arrange the truth and tell it the way it is. lying about who introduced you to a school is not allowed. you should know the reason for selecting a school.

Best to target other countries such as those in Europe with free tuition if u dont have money

Find your way ,not showing up ....will mean u most likely be illegal. Do you know d emotional tension that goes with that. Also u cant get a job because u dont have papers so emotional stress with financial issues. You will just be a mess and wished u had remained in naija .

Nigeria has its own issues but at least u sleep in a house and apart from mosquito disturbing ur sleep or no light but at least sleep straight . If Ilegal u be crying every night maybe on d street too .

Best to make sure you are always in status

I am a silient follower of this thread. I did my interview this morning.
This my transcript. Hope it would help applicant.

VO- Good morning
Me- Good morning Sir, happy new month and happy independence in advance.

VO- Thanks, pass me your passport and I20 and Sevis
Me- Ok

VO- what Program are you going for
Me- Masters in public health with a concentration in Epidemiology

VO- why did you choose Public health?
Me- During my training during undergraduate, I realized if I want to become a clinical researcher, I would have to get a master
Degree with a focus on research. So I applied to about 5 schools via Sophas.
VO- what Schools?
Me- University of illinois Chicago, University of Texas Houston, Indiana University, ETSU and GSU

VO- why IU?
Me- I noticed there is a research going on in the School of PH, The 'Jackson heart Study' and one of my faculty member is among the principal investigator. I contacted him and was welcoming. He said I am welcomed to join is team.
I told the VO that having such experience would make me a principal investigator in the area of cardiology...

VO- did you write GRE?
ME- yes I wrote GRE and TOEFL

VO- checked GRE thoroughly and didnt check toefl at all. (My GRE score was actually above 300). He said my documents are complete. And passed a white paper. To pick my visa in two days time.

Glory be to God. It was by Grace through faith.
My Recommendations
1) Be prayerful and trust God with all your plans. Once you have done that dont allow fear to penetrate, confess Gods word regularly.
2) Make sure you are confident and well composed. Maintain eye contact throughout. ( was actually thought that during clinical exams in med sch)
3) Get all your documents complete. Some were told to go back and get 5cm x 5cm passport

All the best.
