In order for the penis to penetrate the vagina, the pelvic floor muscles have to be relaxed. The main two ways in which these muscles are relaxed are by arousal, and via the hormones released during childbirth. So what's relevant here is arousal. Evolution has created this nifty link, whereby arousal releases hormones that relax the pelvic floor muscles, allowing the vagina to accommodate a penis. There are medical reasons that cause sex to be painful at all times for women, even after they are "deflowered". |

Taiyescott:Vaginismus is the one I can remember - when you clench up. It can be psychosomatic, but not always. But a lot of women have endometriosis which can cause sex to be painful. |
