Any sentence under two years can be
suspended under Spanish law, meaning
Messi is expected to avoid spending a
day behind bars...... |

Our LONGER-nosed fellow homo sapiens continue to show us why their societies remain better than ours. They continue to demonstrate why we will continue coming to their countries to be their voluntary UNDER-employed slaves while posing to our "unlucky" fellow citizens who are still "stuck" in Nigeria that they are in the diaspora. Should we remain that way In our own country, the useless yeyebrities flash and parade their: - expensive cars. - expensive watches - expensive shoes - expensive dresses - expensive mansions - expensive etc. without paying taxes and no one is bothered. Did we not have a similar case of the famous blogger with her Banana Island mansion who paid only N4,000 for six years but was quickly swept under the carpet Why are we so foolish as a people? @OP Stop misleading people ! This is the real headline Lionel Messi: Soccer star handed 21-month sentence, set to avoid prison (CNN)The good news for soccer star Lionel Messi is that he won't be going to jail for defrauding the Spanish tax authorities. The bad news is that he's been fined $2.3 million. http://edition.cnn.com/2016/07/06/football/lionel-messi-tax-guilty-sentence-21-months/index.html 2 Likes 1 Share |

lookingbuoy: He won't serve the jail term since it's less than 2years as the law prescribes in Spain. The worst case scenario is serving a "probationary term", which could attract some fine but doesn't require him to be incarcerated. He also has the option of an appeal. 1 Like |

In Spain, once the sentence is below 24 months, the jail term can be suspended. Secondly, he has no criminal records. Sorry, but no jail for Messi. 3 Likes 1 Share |
