Why Is Tinubu So Powerful? by ndidibabe(f): 6:40am On Jul 16, 2016
I understand he was once a Senator of the FRN and a former Governor of Lagos State. However, he isn't the only one to have occupied such positions.

Jonathan was a Governor and also a president. Yet, i don't think that he is as powerful as Tinubu. Since Johnathan left office, he rarely makes the news headline.

Ahmed Tinubu controls today's senate despite not holding any political office. This is evident by the way he unsettles the Senate President and his Vice(na Melaye say na him dey on top of their matter o).

Anyone knows the reason behind Tinubu's power?

He has paid his dues. He single handedly ensured the survival of the opposition in Nigeria when the PDP tsunami of 2003 swept across the South West. Dude ensured Lagos didn't fall and from then launched a campaign that would see to the recapturing of the SW, ultimately resulting in what we have today.

Tinubu is no saint, but you just gotta respect his political astuteness. Hell of a sage.

He's a smart man and he's been in the game for long.
To me, the smartest move he made was not to contest for any major Position in recent years rather he operates from beneath the Spotlight to put who ever he wants on Page hence making him more relevant than his Peers. He's like a Political Coach...

Though I think he's a corrupt man but to be sincere, he's too smart to be caught. I respect his astuteness.

I don't think he is powerful is just that Yoruba and Hausa-Fulani tend to be very demure and respectful to someone in their societies who has risen above board notwithstanding if he or she is right or wrong...they will be loyal to that person. The cultural reverence that come with the throne of Obas, Onis and Emirs also makes it easier for them to control the people. With Igbos...it's impossible as they are not used to having powerful people! Igbo society is naturally and culturally an egalitarian society....everyone is equal! Have you heard of a powerful Igbo man before? Lol. The only way you will be powerful to Igbos is if you are fighting for their freedom...as in Ojukwu and Nnamdi Kanu, then you are talking otherwise you are just an ordinary person no matter your wealth and political clout.

Reason like a man. Why do you disagree with his post?

Instead of calling daddy, he needs to call mommy to change your diapers.

Firstly, he was the only southwest governor that survived the "umbrella revolution" of 2003. Others like Bisi Akande, Lam Adesina, Segun Osoba, couldn't secure a second term nod. So being the only AD governor then made him so popular.

Furthermore, as at the time when people think Jagaban would bow for Obasanjo's pressure, he held his ground and he was steadfast with his progressive ideology.

Not that alone, Tinubu was able to nurture and finance AD (which later turned AC and then ACN) for a one state party in 2003 to a party that controls 6 states and then forming a formidable opposition against the then ruling party in 2011.

While spreading his political tentacles, I think a major factor that has been helping him is the fact that he will never support mediocrity at the expense of merit. He has the best brains as far as politics of naija is concerned. Fashola, Fayemi, Amobode, Muiz Banire, Abiola Ajimobi, Fowler, Abike Dabiri, Femi Gbajabiamila, Aregbesola, Jide Omoworare, Ibikunle Amosun etc. The list is just endless. I think Asiwaju is not just developing himself, he is grooming other young boys. This will make him so relevant for long.

WHy would any man be seeking another mans agreement to do what he wants? If you are man enough you go ahead, relocate everyone back to your region and secede. Its only effeminate wrapper tying men who seek another mans approval before doing what he desires

We will not relocate for you lazy poos to reap where you didn't sow. We shall continue to own properties, businesses and even more in SW just as the Jews own properties and businesses in Europe, America, Asia, Australia and Africa. The expensive, exclusive areas of Lagos have Houses and plots predominately owned by the Igbos.

In one mouth you say Yorubas are not letting you go, In the other post you are saying you would not relocate.

Is anyone more confused than you lots? We know you are scared of moving back to your cursed land, a land so barren that its red, a land so cursed that its people flee from it, A land that eats its people, A land where the inhabitants cannot excel unless they flee elsewhere.

Its not our fault, go and beg your chi to bless your land. I think its women that tie wrapper, I also know confused men with no cojones also tie wrapper. Do you also wear bra and lipsticks?

So true (he is selfless to a large degree . . . not always about him), and he fought Abacha too.

No doubt, he is an astute politician, he might not be a saint, he might be particular about looking out for his interests (who doesn't), but he does that while looking out for the interests of those around him, and the masses too; like a 'win-win'.

Tinubu is gifted in his ability to get things done by putting the right people in positions to do the job. The guy himself is not a saint but he surrounds himself with great minds. Just look at his political associates - you cant doubt their competence. When he was governor political appointees were carefully picked based largely on ability to deliver. When obasanjo withheld federal allocation to Lagos for over 1year, that turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the state to re-strategize and shore up its IGR - thanks to Tinubu. Tinubu plotted the defeat of Gej in 2015 election and even now may be surreptitiously manipulating the destruction of pdp. The guy is a master strategist - and there lies his power.

You IPOB guys are impossible to understand, you accuse others of not letting you go, but you refuse to leave the land of the people you accuse of not letting you go. It is like the people of Israel refusing to leave Egypt after pharoah told them to go, because they helped build Egypt. You people hate hausa and yoruba so much but want to continue living with them on their lands.
Yes Jews live and own properties in Europe, America, Asia, Australia and Africa, because the Jews have never spewed hatred against the people of the lands they live in. The minute they start hating and insulting their host countries or communities, they would be shown the way out.
