The man is supposed to be on the right. And OP point of correction, it has nothing to do with him being a gentleman, pick up an FRSC Road safety manual and you'll see it there.
- Pedestrians should walk in the direction opposing the oncoming traffic.
- if a man and a woman are walking the man should b on the side closest to d traffic.
- Same applies to mother an child, the mother should be in the same position as the man in the previous option.
it is proven from research the one closer to the road is usually naturally more alert to an incoming traffic and can make split second decision to save both of them.
