Building a wooden house in Nigeria, it should obviously be cheaper than blocks, right? Then, American houses are built with 70% wood, is that the type of house you mean, or what exactly are you talking about. Please expantiate.
I wanted tent initially those kind of tent you'll find at Ikoyi but the tent is more expensive than blocks. So I'm looking at wooden house a 2 bedroom apartment; with a separate structure for kitchen and bathroom.

There's a reason why vibrated blocks cost more and is more desirable and specified in architectural plans of certified architects.

Yessir! You are right. Vibrated blocks are the way to go. Currently using them at the moment not minding the difference in cost that I'm aware of. OP seems to run on a slim budget so my initial advise cos he made the decision to mould himself and didn't include 'time' cost for his calculation.

I would always advise nairalanders and bro n 'sis' in the struggle to yearly rent emancipation to go for vibrated ones.

Oga OP, make sure say you no get plans to put tiles on any wall for your building oo! So that when cracks start, you can visually see them and plaster asap.

And all the cost you have saved from cutting all known architectural standards, better put them aside for monthly/yearly repairs.

May God see us through. grin

U made me laugh....vibrated blocks will cut 70-75 units of 6" from one bag of cement. while hand made is 50units

vibrate will mix 3-4 different type of soil. while the hand will use only sharp sand.

my father's house built 26 years ago got no crack and it was made from hand made block of 6 inch.

I never manage cement or other materials to build except the block.

so what will make it crack. tell me. I made sure the foundation was dig to accommodate one block inside the ground.

so, it hand made block that will crack building..

what do u know...

Vibrated blocks are stronger because there are no air pockets.

Non vibrated blocks + no pillars, especially with non vibrated blocks + no German floor to break up the sheer height of the wall shocked

These look like 9 inchers bro but if you say otherwise, okay.

Don't confuse people coming behind you with your words as they try to learn. What you have are lintels in openings and not a round beam.

Oga Egan, greetings.

I've been thinking of a way to monitor OPs project for 5-10yrs. It's classical thesis case. If you know, Abeg tell me.

The problem with this part of our world is info collection, storage and dissemination.

If the project passes the 5-10years test, he won't come back and tell me the doubting 'thomas' how wrong I was, he won't store the information, on how to run an apartment on a slim budget, in a place accessible to all and where dissemination would be seamless from the hot desert sand of bornu to the creeks in bayelsa.

And if it fails, he won't like the biblical prophets go up to the mountains and tell it to his people, one less way in getting oneself an affordable home.

OP I have the following observations/questions:

1. The dimensions of your land given can't b correct with the unit (ft).
2. Does not look like you did a proper foundation ( commonly called German floor) so you may b having water effects on your wall in d future.
3. Did you use 6 inches block all through??

@the bolded...you are very correct. Not only water but differential settlement of the foundation and walls which could result in cracks as the building begins to settle.
I have advised many people in this forum about this many times before but still keep on repeating the same mistake.

bros, i can boldly say that atleast 75% of all currently existing bungalows in Nigeria does not have columns and were built with hand moulded blocks, in your arguments, you failed to notice how the op cut the greatest costs is not from the price of blocks since the price difference doesn't matter much given that he used only about 2000 blocks. i would launch a thread later on the secrets pf low cost housing
Cost of Moulding blocks (6inches)

Sharp Sand 23k (Man diesel) X 3times = 69k

15bags Cements @ #1600/bag X 3times= 72k

Workmanship is #700/bag X 45baggs = 31.5k

Water provision = 10k

miscellaneous = 5k

Total = #187.5k

Total block produced= 2,300 units
(1bag of cement moulded 50units of blocks)

to be continue....... Congratulations brother but the 50unit block for 1 bag of Cement is too much.next time .... 40 units block for 1bag..
That's how I mould my own block wen I dey build my house.... Below is d building...

If you don't mind me asking a very personal question, how much did it cost you to build this bungalow plus the roofing?
