What exactly do you need?? I can't believe you didn't find what you are looking for. Perhaps you read the thread and you didn't 'find' what you are looking for, you can ask specific question. You need to take a step before someone can assist you.

NB: Reading through this thread is not a punishment. Infact you need a pen and a jotter to take down few points. A short pencil is better than a long memory
I think that's OK thanks

Take sat and toefl ... apply to more than one school(this one for sure ).. find someone in nigeria to be your sponsor . Although nobody can predict how the outcome will be next time but this one way to appear more credibile . ....then work on your answers and make them more personal instead of been abstract for example since u did midwifery. Its so easy to relate nursing to your background and experience instead u gave a very abstract answer on nursing and not why midwifery to nursing . ..... u always have to listen very well to d question and not just answer prepared answers

Quote
Me: yes, I did midwifery, I'm a registered midwife
: Consulate: so you have midwifery why do you want to do nursing?
based on the recent evolution of our time there's an increasing healthcare development and also need for health care provision especially in developing countrie and in the smaller communities here, so I want to go and upgrade my professional knowledge in the field such that I will come and implement them back home
. please is it compulsory to take the two tests. SAT and TOEFL. how about taking one?

Yes and No but it depend on the schools alloy are applying to because some schools can swap/switch SAT for Toefl.

There is no harm if you write both provided you have the cash to pay for the two.

Its been more than a fortnight since I got here while I do not have the experience of the gurus, but I have seen 9 states. I am going to take a more introspective or even pessimistic realistic view.
First your life will not automatically improve when you get here, I have found out self improvement, the desire to be better is a function of what you have on the inside (your self belief, determination), as it has been rightly said an ant in Sango will not turn to an elephant in San Francisco.
Two there are two different types of America that largely never mix and are vastly different in resources and experience. Blacks have a raw deal in America, I will not pontificate about it. Visit Randallstown and WhiteMarsh just a few miles from each other in Baltimore county and see the vast difference in life. Segregation is real, before it was enforced by law now it is just by Money(credit).
As an African not black, Whites will treat you well and defer to you because you are not 'African-American' while African-Americans long the basement boys of America will mock you. I find the treatment of whites condescending while I find that of blacks ignorant, I just want to be treated like everybody else (pipe dreams)
Let me drum it in your ears, you might spend 5yrs here or 500 but you are not American and you'll never be, trying will cost you heartache and lost dignity, This days Americans don't even know what America is, your kids might turn out all American but nigg*r you ain't sh*t (ebonics)
You will meet a lot of peeps here, some high flying students, many that dropped out or never attended school, many that got sucked in just because they gave the devil a Mouth Action ( they smoked crack) .
I have good roads now, I don't worry about light, I don't even do my ironings a week in advance in fact I do no ironings at all, laundry is cheap but make no mistake the road, electricity, fast internet is not free you pay through the nose. Not paying bills will see you quickly relegated to 3rd world standard of living in America.
I was complaining to a friend and he was like knowing all this, would you do it again? Yes, I would!!! I had the courage to leave , leave behind family and friends (painful) and seek a better life. I receive a lot of PM's before my account got shut with people saying how is it? , I got visa and no funding , I don't have school fees I want to leave Nigeria , what school? People ask, should I come??
I can tell you the following, where there is a will, there is a way, you will have more rights than you ever did in Nigeria but don't break laws and make your own damn decisions.

*sorry for the epistle its not for everyone

Nice and informative write up. At the bolded, I don't think it's worth anyone's time wanting to be accepted or not once you can get justice and equity from a system.
This is exactly the argument I have with my brother and friends everyday.
Someone takes you into their country, you get quality education, get a job and a better standard of living. You also get permanent residents and equally right to free Borns of the land minus the right to vote. These things you stood about 10% chances of getting in your own country but then being accepted (whatever that means) becomes an issue. Well Its probably the bush man in me that is talking but from my own perspective it looks like you we are not even accepted in our own Country to start with.

Me too i have never bothered or worried about acceptance ... Now that i am working , all i care is about you paying me end of the month , the rest i cannot be bothered .........That been said you dont even have to force acceptance , it comes naturally with time and adjustment . The longer you stay in a place, the more you integrate and feel part of that society and then mix freely .

When I first started working I used to hate happy hour , I used to hate office dinners because I be all quiet and keep to myself, I felt my Nigeria accent was so different … Years gone by those are no longer issues . I get their banter, their jokes , I can blow their fone ……….even me fit throw Jokes now and everyone go laugh,..... shocked. Me that used to be so quiet .. …

Looking back........ I actually didn’t force or go out of my way to fit in. it came with TIME because those are the only people I see ( I been the only black in all various teams) so their way have become my way of life......Dont worry about integration or been acceptance , it will come with time ..Even time and experience will bring out any confident you didnt know existed

One of my very first big presentation to upper management ....I was using style to ask my line manager to talk through out the presentation while i do the slides . She was like no why it both of us work , i said this my Nigerian accent.......lol . she just said flat no i start and you finish

Then it must have been on her mind because the next day , she gave me a fridge magnet which i guess she went out of her way to find that evening ......till today i still have it on my fridge and it was a reminder for many years

fridge Magnet : no one make you feel inferior without your consent

End of my story
Quote from google , never do this to yourself ; One of the greatest barriers to accomplishments and to happiness is the feeling of inferiority. How many of us fail to try new things because we're afraid we don't have the ability to succeed? How many of us imagine, usually falsely, that others have a low opinion of us ............
