ayobase:Thought provoking question I've always maintained through my posts that 100% gnostic theist and 100% gnostic atheist is a very ignorant and arrogant position to take i find the position of both Gnostic theism and Gnostic atheism both ridiculous and nonsensical. These positions are rather that of personal emotions than honest enquiry: On one hand the other claims absolutely that God(s) exists even though without empirical evidence, on the other hand the other claims absolutely that God(s) don't exist. How can you be so sure when the subject is one that is uncertain, unproven and conceptual. You can tell me there is a diamond cut pig man somewhere in the universe [i might or will doubt you due to lack of empirical evidence] but for me to claim absolutely there is no such thing means i must have been to every corner of the universe to be sure. |

4everGod:no according to ur bible god can..nd science cant..theres a place which said smtin like that.. After all metusalah is the guiness book world record holder for longest years(almost a millenium lol)...so if metusaleh can do it..god can do it for u..ask him for that... If you lived to be 90 or 100 yrs and the Gospel never diminished but rather it waxed stronger what are the odds that in 3 centuries to come it would vanish altogether.in those days how many unreligious persons were they? When did man pick up courage to start questioning dogma? The tin is that religions(mainly christians) like to be faster than their shadows..thats how u'd expect a scientist to create a planet or a sun for u in the lab jst because they have observed how it forms..time will tell The loss is actually on you so start praying to science immediately[/b]the loss in on u to pray to god to create horses that can fly into space..he did it alot in the bible...and that u shud stop using ur phone to make calls etc lest u worship science...since if u believe in god u dnt need to use ur phone..all u need to do is pray nd the thread u want to create will magically create on nairaland.. He can do it..he made a snake talk..remember? #delusion |

hopefulLandlord:Yeah. In that case, is it logical for me to claim your pink unicorn is not true and be sure about it? Is it logical then to be an atheist in that case? |

KingEbukasBlog:I see that you still haven't done your research on North Korea. 2 years ago I said the following to you; still very much applicable. "On North Korea, you should read more articles. 66 per cent of the popluation are followers of the Juche philsophy which is modeled after modern christainity. As an example they worship the trinity of "Kim Il Sung, the former leader of North Korea who died in 1994, his wife Kim Jung Sook, and his son, Kim Jong Il". You can see a lot more similarities here : http://dotheword.org/2014/03/17/how-is-north-koreas-juche-ideology-similar-to-christianity/." raphieMontella:All the techonological gadgets you are screaming was motivated by theists. Which place in the bible confirms your first paragraph. You people should just keep crying angrily, religion has been attacked since the 14th century and been predicted to die off even before the16th century. This is the 21st century and more than 3/4 of the worlds population is still religious, and the number has been predicted to increase over the next 70 years. Seems to me like you will be crying for a really long time. |

ayobase:Which philosophers are you talking about? How many ancient philosophers were atheists? I am also quoting my Lord, Jesus Christ, the I am that I am, the prince of peace, the author and finisher of my faith, who was and is and is to come, the Messiah...You people are adept at throwing up meaningless cliches. What is a lord? Is it a landlord or chieftaincy title? What of the king, queen, dukes, princes, princesses and all paraphernalia of monarchy? For me to prove if He exists, you must be very versed in histories and believe they happened, just as you do quote once existed atheists, who you don't where they are as we discuss, but my Jesus said He is going to prepare a place for me.There very little history or archeological proof of any of the biblical stories. Most atheists do not need to read a historical or fictional book to become atheists, they simply realize your fables and myths about your god is senseless. So you need Jesus to prepare a place for you? You mean you are helpless or incapable of preparing a place for yourself. To prove if He exists, answer this questions as well versed you are in histories/occurrences and researches; No historical or archaeological evidence that the Jews were captives of the Egyptians. 2. Do you know a man called Jesus Christ who was around more than 2000 years ago who died and resurrected the third dayNo historical or archeological evidence that any human resurrected from death 2000 years ago. Although there are myths of resurrection from the dawn of recorded history till today. |

winner01:Exactly ! These people don't know facts . The world is expected to be more religious and the religion with the most adherents have been predicted to be Islam by I think 2050 or 2070 can't remember which . There is no room for atheism - its a bitter fact but I wonder why they have failed to accept . |

This thread is about the suffering of religious people and the need for atheists to be more outspoken. Let's not derail it any further, please. |

Seun:Yet more arrogance! One adult sits in his nice little bubble and categorically states that he knows what is better for another. This was how fascism started o. I am a social butterfly, have an amicable relationship with most people I know including here on NL. Some of the people in my private life are adherents of our traditional religions, some are muslims, some are christians. I don't know any atheist personally but I work with a few and have excellent working relationship with them. Like I have told you before, there is world outside of your 'little mind & bubble'. Of course we should seek pleasure over pain! Why would you seek pain? Are you a masochist? Even masochists seek pleasure, through pain. From the evolutionary POV, the reason why we find certain things pleasurable is that those things, e.g. food, companionship, sex, are generally good for us (or more specifically, the survival of our genes). Painful and unpleasant things, such as fire, hunger, and fractured bones, are generally bad for us. What sets us above most animals is not masochism but the ability to delay some pleasure today in order to enjoy greater pleasure, or avoid great pain, later. Indiscriminate unprotected sex could be pleasant, but we are intelligent enough to foresee that it may lead to the prolonged pain of unwanted pregnancies and STDs, so we might ****** instead, which is less pleasurable but safer. Seeking pleasure does not always imply selfishness. Altruism is pleasant. Knowing that someone is having a good life because of you is very nice.As I said before, what is pleasurable is not always beneficial! If you don't know that, I can't help you. Contentment is a form of pleasure too. You work hard to have a successful and interesting life, so when you're old you can look back with pride. You are confused, what if I get the utmost contentment from my faith? Not everyone want to live a life without restraint. Most cases of euthanasia I've heard about involve people who are terminally ill with cancer. It's not comparable to the blood transfusion issue. Not comparable, how so? The condition is already terminal, why not wait for nature to take its course. My focus on Nigeria is a feature, not a bug.Even for Nigeria you made and continue to make a lot of blanket statements. Some religions are responsible for a lot of great music and art, which atheists shamelessly enjoy, but in other religions they are severely restricted.Like ? I didn't say that all religions believe in the afterlife. I said many religious people believe in the afterlife, which is true both locally and globally. Most do.Most do?! Seun, do a simple arithmetic on the examples I provided you above, unless of 2 out of 6 is 'most' in your books. The wording of my original statement was wrong. It now says that religious people often choose to live miserable lives in exchange for paradise. This is true. Most religious people's lives are not so bad because they disobey their religions when it suits them. Wise, but dishonest.Goal shifting, how nice! As above; it also applies to the USLol..there is no point just hitting your keyboard if you are unable to comprehend simple sentences. I even told you told you that the 'Amish' go to hospitals, I simply told you that you can't discount prayers because belief is beneficial to the human psyche. As I said, many religious people are opposed to those precautionary measures because they think it will encourage sex, which they think is bad. Some of the biggest religious organizations are opposed to condoms and all contraceptives for this reason. A lot of people have gotten in trouble with religious people because condoms were found in their possession, instead of being given pats in the back for being responsible.Given pats on the back for being hypocrites? Professing a faith is like being in a marriage, it has benefits and attendant restraints. What the Bleep is sexual accountability? Isn't God going to judge her in your imaginary afterlife? Why not leave the judgment to God? When you force a woman to have a baby she doesn't want, you're punishing the baby as well. That's despicable. A baby is not a punishment for being a slut i.e. a woman who like sex. A baby is a person who deserves to be desired and loved by the people who brought him/her into the world. If you must punish a woman for having sex, by all means feel free to spank her 12 times on the bum after the early stage abortion. The same unfortunate sexual accountability logic is what some religious people are using as the basis for their illogical opposition to contraceptives.Sexual accountability is knowing that as a teenager, having a sexual relationship with anyone has a high probability of leading to a heartbreak or worse pregnancy which has potential to change a young life forever, in fact it will. Or as an adult, there is a high probability someone could get hurt. Feel free to have all the premarital sex you desire but be sure that the other party is aware you are only in it to have a good time. As long as you can do that, I am good. (God knows how many times I have read stories of one party screaming rape because they suddenly desire more than a good time from a sexual encounter). All these things are dramatically reduced by the consistent use of condoms and not having sex with careless people. Except sexual depravity. WTF is that? Abstinence doesn't work because of the "body no be wood" phenomenom. We're biologically programmed to crave sex. Those who rely on abstinence often end up having unsafe sex and suffering the consequences while those who practice safe sex have a good time.Bestiality, erotic asphyxiation, coprophilia are examples of sexual depravity, there is in fact one I am trying to remember but can't, it basically involves having sex with frozen poo. Your ignorance of sexual depravity does not mean it does not exist. They don't want their daughters to learn about sex and condoms because they think knowledge will encourage their daughters to have sex.I have devout parents who perhaps can be referred to as being old school. I got my first sex education from my mother when I was 11. I have a 9 year old daughter that I have already started having the talk with and I unashamedly admit that she has gotten a PC version so far because I don't believe she is old enough to know all the details. The day she sees her first trickle of menses is when she gets the none PC version. I have also always encouraged them to use the correct names of their sexual anatomy. Ask my 6 year old son why he knows he is a boy and he will tell it is because he has a p3nis not a vag1na. In which holy scriptures did you find Indira Gandhi, Marie Curie, Angela Merkel, Naija Babe, and Fatima al-Fihri? Their names are not listed in any holy scriptures I know. Were you sleeping when you typed 'Religious women can't live up to their full potential'? As for the women who appeared in the holy scriptures, why not tell us about their scriptural accomplishments? You can find out about them the same way you found out about Eve and Delilah or whoever it was you mentioned in your first post. As I said to you in first response, my position remains the same, I have no interest in telling not to be an atheist but I am against and will fight if I have to your position that atheism is best for because you an atheist. Fascism has been obliterated and freedom lovers like me will do everything we can to keep it that way. |

According to Seun: "I have to be an Atheist because there is no evidence of any God" This is a logical fallacy: argumentum ad ignoratiam (appeal to ignorance). Is this how you normally argue? Because there's no evidence of this, then it is nonexistent? Orbiting that same fallacious illogicality of yours, I dare say that a kid born in an impoverished home—which peradventure is also located in the village—is right in believing that he/she can never achieve sucess, simply because he/she has no evidence that the wherewithal and opportunities to be wealthy and successful abound in the urbanized towns and cities. Seun forgets that the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Meanwhile, Naijababe, continue battering the hide-bound theophobic codger. |

stephenmorris: Coward! It's meant for people you can pull the wool over their eyes abi? Have you ever seen me on your threads?. I am not interested in your decision to choose atheism but y'all aren't getting away with 'fascism'. The right to choose to be a person of faith is an unalienable and non-negotiable right of every human. The same way I will speak up against ISIS and KKK is the same way I will speak up against atheist militancy and the crass discrimination dripping from his original post. There is no way I am going to let you get away such dangerous views. I mean seriously, y'all egg him on with comments like religious women suck and can't live up to their potential. As I said in my first rejoinder, y'all can congregate, speak up against religion but you are not getting away with thinking that your choice and way is best for all us. |

Poetry, music and art are about imagination and FREE , unrestricted expression. Anything less than that is neither poetry, music nor art. |

. @hopefulLandlord I DONT ARGUE WITH ATHEISTS. ‘COS THERE IS REALLY NOTHING TO ARGUE ABOUT. THATS WHY I QUOTED NAIJABABE & NOT SEUN. FAITH & REASON ARE TWO PARALLEL REALMS THAT CAN NEVER MEET. WHOEVER CLAIMED TO HAVE PROCURED FAITH IN GOD BY WAY OF REASONING “ALONE“ IS ONLY WASTING HIS/HER TIME. SUCH KIND OF FAITH IS FAKE & WILL NEVER LAST. ALL SUCH KIND OF FAITH NEEDS IS A MORE CONVINCING REASON BASED COUNTER ARGUEMENT TO MITIGATE IT OR OBLITRATE IT COMPLETELY. YOU CAN NEVER “REASON“ SOMEONE OUT OF REAL FAITH. REAL FAITH IS VERY PERSONAL. VERY, VERY PERSONAL. ITS LIKE TAKING A SIP FROM A MUG OF SWEETENED COFFEE BY AN INDIVIDUAL....THERE IS NO AMOUNT OF DETAILED EXPLANATION NO MATTER HOW EXPLICIT....THAT‘LL GIVE YOU THE PRECISE DEGREE OF ITS SWEETNESS UNLESS YOU ALSO TAKE A SIP. ...AND THE MOMENT YOU DO, EVERY DAMN ATOM IN YOUR BODY WILL AFFIRM & TAKE FULL COGNIZANCE OF ITS TASTE/PROPERTIES SUB-CONSCIOUSLY. THATS FAITH. IF YOU‘VE GOT IT, YOU‘VE GOT. IF YOU HAVE‘NT, YOU HAVE‘NT. REASONING IS NOT THE ONLY CHANNEL OF PROCURING KNOWLEDGE. SO, THERE‘S NOTHING TO ARGUE ABOUT. YOU, GO CONTINUE READING YOUR RICHARD DONKEY OR WHATEVER & GET THE EFF OFF MY POSTS! . |
