ChrisKels:
Win or lose against Germany, the guys have really performed beyond expectations considering what they have been through.

My observations so far:

1. With what Azubuike has shown in this tourney, Onazi's place in the SE is up for grab(if not lost). I mean that guy is good. His work rate is wow, just check out his role in winning possession that gave us the first goal against the Danes. Another thing that puts him ahead of Onazi is his passing accuracy. I don't see him staying in Turkey (Onazi's new home) after this tourney.

2. Moses Simon should either shape up or ship out with the emergence of Imoh Ezekiel. His runs, overall work rate, dribbling make me wonder why people talk about Gnabry when we have a similar player who is even better..(doesn't mean we should overlook him though). He(Ezekiel) is now the darling of Brazilian fans. D less said, the better MBOK.

3. ETEBO is destined for greatness. Another beast-like free scoring attacking midfielder in the mold of Amokachi d bull(though a striker in his days). Celta Vigo and Españyol, I read are already making enquires to see if they could get him before this window closes . He is the real deal biko.

4. Shehu Abdullahi : like someone rightly said here earlier, he does his things like young Lahm, always attacking and never forgets his primary role(defending). The way he reads his opponents movement and his tackles just dey sweet me. He is definitely not going down with his Portuguese team with his showing in Rio and the interests from top Portuguese clubs e.g Bragga. He is up there to save us from the shackles of Ambrose in the SE.

5. Nwa Obi Mikel, mimi-nwa, odogwu n'onwe ya, omere Iniesta, Bosquet na Xavi iwa. The man Dat pocket Toure in AFCON. the amiable leader. Captain fantastic. Abeg e don do. U r great and whoever is hating on u, is an enemy of obedience and good football. Have u guys noticed that this guy gets better as he ages unlike some guys that fizzled out while aging, yet one efulefu go come here come dey doubt his age, ka m nwetekwa gi.

6. EKONG has really grown In leaps and bounds thanks to that loan Dat took him to Norway. We have a rugged centerback in our hand. He is similar though not yet as good as Rafael Varane. I don't see Genk abi Gent sending him to another loan spell.

7. Usman never looks back, he keeps improving. He wll get better with time.

8. Sadiq will be better if he improves on his stamina and first touch. He's got d height, hold up play tactics and his decision making is somewhat above average. He is a prospect.

9. Amuzie and Aminu just don't want to improve.

My 2cents

I was pleased with your analysis until I came to the last point.

Amuzie as far as am concerned has put up a better performance in this tournament than in the two matches against Egypt. He was a threat against the Sweden, if I can remember very well. He has so far contributed to the attack. His memorable assist to Sadiq Umar in our match against Sweden says it all. He troubled the Columbian keeper when he came on.

Please his game has been better as far as this tournament is concerned.

Nigeria Olympic Team Skipper Mikel Obi

by Samm Audu

Nigeria Olympic team coach Samson Siasia has singled out Chelsea star Mikel Obi for special praise as the team get set for a Rio Olympics semi-final against Germany.

Mikel has shone in Brazil that Siasia said the Chelsea star reminds him of when he inspired the Flying Eagles to reach the final of the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup in Holland with the midfielder playing a more offensive role that earned him the tournament second best player after Lionel Messi.

The coach was full of appreciation to the entire team after the comfortable 2-0 victory over Denmark in the quarterfinals of the Rio Olympics, but reserved special praise for his captain.

“Coach Siasia has publicly praised the contribution of the team captain Mikel Obi to the success of the team so far,” a top team source informed AfricanFootball.com

“He had a one-on-one with Mikel and thanked him for being there for the team and also his full support for him that has kept him and his team going.”

Siasia said the way Mikel is playing now reminded him of the 2005 Flying Eagles who played in the final of the U20 World Cup in Holland.

He said Mikel has led by example on and off the pitch.

He said a very good example was the Chelsea star’s opening goal against Denmark before he was also involved in the second goal that ousted the Danes from the Olympics in Brazil.

“He said with the leadership role Mikel is playing right now he is very confident that his team would beat Germany in the semi-finals to qualify for the Gold medal match,” added the source.

The midfielder has assured that the Dream Team VI would emerge victorious in Rio to celebrate the birthdate of the tactician

John Obi Mikel has revealed that coach Samson Siasia’s ideal birthday gift is the Olympic football gold medal.

The Nigeria U23 captain, who scored one of Dream Team VI’s goals in the 2-0 defeat of Denmark, disclosed this during a surprise party organised to mark Siasia’s 49th birthday.

During his speech which recounted the long relationship with the Super Eagles’ legend, Mikel appreciated the tactician for helping his football career while promising that the team will do all it takes to win the Olympics gold medal for him.

“We rejoice with you our dear chief coach on the celebration of your Birthday. On behalf of the team, I’m promising you that we will work very hard to make sure we win the football gold medal of this Olympics to present to you as your birthday gift,” said Mikel.

“You have been a very good leader to us and we will continue to do our best to make sure you are happy and our football loving fans at home.”

Nigeria face Germany on Wednesday night in the men’s football event of the Rio Games, and victory for them would mean they face either Brazil of Honduras in the final.

Samson Siasia's team must step up their game if they hope to beat Horst Hrubesch's side for the Rio Olympics final ticket

Nigeria’s quest for Olympics football gold takes centre stage on Wednesday when they take on Germany at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo.

Samson Siasia’s men have been impressive in the tournament with three wins and one defeat, but they face their toughest task yet against their German opponents.

Led by mercurial John Mikel Obi, Dream Team VI are in good shape going into the fixture, although there are lingering doubts over the fitness of Oghenekaro Etebo.

Germany for their part are in a rich vein of goalscoring form, having found the back of the net a whopping 19 times in four games including the 10-0 drubbing of minnows Fiji.

Horst Hrubesch's side boast of a fearsome attacking unit consisting of captain Max Meyer, Julian Brandt and the competition’s leading scorers in Arsenal’s Serge Gnabry and Cologne’s Nils Petersen with six and five goals respectively.

Nigeria can, however, look to exploit a German defence that shipped in five goals in its opening two games, although goalkeeper Timo Horn and a defence marshalled by Borussia Dortmund’s Matthias Ginter has since steadied itself to keep two clean sheets in their last two games.

Siasia must also tighten his backline as first choice centre-half Azubuike Okechukwu is unavailable for selection owing to card offences.

RIO2016: FIFA Cancels Mikel's Yellow Card And Two Others Against Denmark.

Three Nigerian players have been given the all clear by FIFA ahead of Nigeria’s semi final game against Germany, after it was confirmed that the cautioned they picked up against Denmark has been wiped out. The trio of Muenfuh Sincere, Usman Muhammed and team captain Mikel Obi had their caution wiped out, hence will approach the tie against Germany without any fear of a possible booking that will see them miss the final if they beat the Germans. FIFA amended it’s tournaments rules few years ago, canceling single yellow cards picked up during quarter final games to stem the tide of key players missing final games due to accumulated bookings. Going by the rules, only the deputy captain of the Nigerian team Azubuike Okechukwu is suspended for Wednesday semi final clash against Germany, as the booking he picked up against Denmark was his second of the tournament. http://owngoalnigeria.com/2016/08/17/rio-2016-fifa- cancels-yellow-card-shown-to-mikel-and-two-others- against-denmark-2/

I love Amuzie as much as u do but in this tourney, he's been too erratic for my liking. I hate player(s) being "a rope of sand". Amuzie is guilty of making us hot and bothered. One minute he is giving nice crosses, the next he is giving wayward crosses plus clumsy passes that invites pressure on us. To me, that's not improvement. He ought to be doing better than that. Shehu overlaps just like amuzie but Shehu Is never found wanting when called upon by the opponents in his primary role (defending). Amuzie my brother (I guess he is Abian like me) should plz improve on his game for good.

KCee (U20746):

For whatever reason, Mikel is such an easy target for abuse but I dare any of you who understand a bit of football to go back and watch some of our games against high pressing teams like Barcelona. Mikel has always been the only Chelsea player who could hold the ball for over 3 seconds under intense pressure. Some of you know nothing about football.

I am expecting a fire cracking game from Mikel this night. My best creative midfield attacking game of all time was Zidane vs Brazil in 2006 World Cup. Followed By Mikel against Argentina in 2005 in Netherland.

Mikel has done well in a lot of big games. Like, Chelsea vs Manchester United in the FA Cup finals, Chelsea vs Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, Chelsea vs Barcelona on three occasions in the Champions League.

Wish our Dream Team the best.

Kpo Ya Chukwu No Ga Zah.

with one exception. In most of the games, he was a DMF. That's where he strives most. Mikel's style soothe that role a lot. And i wonder why we still keep deploying him to attacking position where he slows down counter attacks and can hardly shoot with strong & accurate force from distance. Did u see the best goal in belgium last season? it was by a DMF( ndidi). Hope Amusie, Seth, sadiq & co wont finish us tonite.

One thing that scares me about Germany is their level of discipline on the field. This should be a match of character where your attitude will determine your result. Nigeria cant be losing passes and giving wrong passes in vital areas.Germany no send you even if na 10 to 0 den de beat you.

At a goal down i still believe we are in line for the finals. After the goal- we donated-we have been playing much better and are unlucky not to have a goal or two.

Mikel should drop to the deep-lying midfielder and coordinate the midfield. Udoh might get a red in the second half if he is kept with Meyer in that DMF.

The discipline and coordination of this German team is amazing. The way the entire defense sync. How the Bender twins shift for each other. Insane!

We have had our chances though. We are being killed by inaccurate passes.
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by AIG07: 9:01pm On Aug 17, 2016
Good game so far...

The defenders need to work on their positioning. They all seem to focus more on d player with ball which opens play for a recieving player to be well positioned.

Goodluck to d lads.

And why wont a professional make a decent pass or release the ball when you still have space and make yourself available for a pass. Nigeria is technically and tactically poor.
