naijaboiy: so you are saying that because your parents know you padded your school budget, it is justified because you have good results. don't forget that in a way, the excess padding affects other family members by depriving them also of their needs. nobody will tell you. it's not a good thing to do whichever way we chose to see it. you say that even if they steal money for constituency projects, at least let there be something to show as per completed projects. it goes a long way to show that we as Nigerians are satisfied with the crumbs that come our way. what ever happened to doing things the right way. oh well, honesty and doing things the right way is no longer a virtue. mediocrity is being celebrated instead. padding is padding irrespective of the amount of money involved. you are a lawyer in the making. what is bad is bad. you of all people should know this. 1 Like |

martineinstein:@emboldened, its not like yours will be any different. if you think your kids will be merciful in budget padding because you didn't do that to your parents, you are on a long thing. your parents were lucky in your own case but what about your siblings? 98% of Nigerian parents have an experience with budget padding. |

During my uni days, there was a guy in chemistry dept that told his mom to give him 150k to buy laptop which he says it is a must in that dept( his dad is late and his mom is struggling to see him through school). One day, his mom came to enquire about it and the boy was called by the HOD. HOD: who said that laptop is compulsory in this dept? Guy: aah mummy, I didnt say 150k for laptop but 1500 for labcoat. How can I say something like that when I know that u dont have the money. 3 Likes |

The worst is when you're FYB and some lecturers have threatened not to let you go unless your sort, sorry block. Your supervisor is demanding money for nothing and you won't tell to avoid stories that touch because you know who you parents are. That kind of budget padding can make first class. I know some parents give their ward tens or hundreds of thousands to help block, some don't care if you block or not while for others is a NO NO! A dad once confronted a supervisor and even threatened him in one of the almighty schools but later have to succumb when he saw that the man was putting up other gimmicks to frustrate the ward. The supervisor had to take care of everything. The dad was actually lamenting the education standard in naija and why he have to hustle his kids to Covenant or send them overseas. I have also seen and heard of supervisors who will take hold of your project work till report binding. It's a must you pay. Trust students especially babes with different gimmicks. God help you if when the semester or session ends you won't have to borrow all your friends textbooks to go explain how to spent all the money. |

martineinstein: there are many pple whose parent dint go to a uni and their children are padding them well.......don't deceive ursef oga, ur children will multi-triple pad u sef point of correction, most padders are not pple that concentrate on fame and popularity, they just pad because there are some emergency things and projects that come up at some point, that ur parents wouldn't be able to sponsor due to some difficulties and hardship........so you see how that padded money now comes in as a miracle to save you and spare your blushes |

It's actually fun if you know your parents can afford to pay extra. Am guilty. But it's kinda interesting. I did all through my undergraduate days and got away with it. But history caught up with me when my immediate sister got admission into the same school, the same year I graduated. My dad got to know. We just laughed over it coz I got to know my dad also did same to his parents. Ain't a basttard. Like I said, it's okay when you know your parents can afford the extra. 1 Like |
