justwise:

That is the point IF the school approves it and you don't take internship without being an active student.

If you face financial challenges after getting your TRV then defer your admission because there is no point traveling to Canada without money just to break the immigration rule

I agree with you that if financial situation changes after getting trv you defer and stay back and if already there, defer and come back home so as not to break the immigration rule but some are compel to travel, defer admission and work there because they cannot raise the money here again.

It is not a good thing to do but many do it cause they see it as there only option to study abroad. Must they study abroad? That's another question

what I am saying is CIC requested for my passport and medicals Yes she applied for a open work permit.

That is why they requested for you passport and medical, your trv has been approved so they requested your passport but they requested the medical to know whether you are qualified for the open work permit, depending on the medical you will get either only a trv or with open work permit

Are you going for study or just visit. If you're going for study which exceeds six months then am afraid your visa application has been refused. Sorry about that boss.

If however, you're going on a visit and you won't be staying more 6 months.... Then there's is a 5O% chance that your visa has been approved.

Interesting topic. Justwise is 99 percent right. The only way to go about it is to register less courses and work in between. I do knw a lot of canadian citizens that take a year off and come back to school. Never heard of a foreign student doing that
That is still hard to bypass. If a student takes less than 60% workload per semester, you automatically become part time.
-If international student, the school would promptly report such student to CIC.
-If home student, student loan/grants would be slashed or withdrawn the moment school reports your status has changed to PT.

The system is designed to keep students in school.lol.

All are allowed, label them accordingly in a transparent thick nylon and when they ask you declare all.
You might add Ogbono, Red beans

Hello House,
Thank you for all your contributions to this thread.
Please I am in a little dilemma.

I got admission into Lakehead university for this September and that is what I used to process my visa.

While waiting for my visa, I got admission into University of Waterloo for January 2017, which is way better than the initial school I got.

So now my visa is ready but I plan to go in December for Waterloo but my fear is if I can do that since my visa was applied against this September.

Will it be a problem at the point of entry if they see that I have collected my visa since but I am just going.

Or should I just travel now and wait over there till Waterloo resumes. But even if I go now, since I am paying for Waterloo, won't they ask me what is going on at the point of entry since I don't resume till January.

I look forward to any advise that might help.

Thank you in advance.

The same explanation you gave here is enough for anybody since you have all documents thats if they ask at all.
A friend left in March for a programme starting in June and no issues yours is even a degree which is better, his was a co- opt just relax choose whichever you want to do.
Remember going ahead you will be spending money before school resumes while you are not making money yet. People get their visa whenever they want it doesnt have to be 1month or 2weeks to resumption.

Hello,

This thread has been very helpful, I have a question and I serious bothered. My wife who is currently studying in canada applied for visiting visa for me online. she also applied for an extension of her study permit. she was approved on friday and my own application updated at the same time for a medical request and passport request. is this normal? I have read that you get a medical request first before getting a passport request what does this mean? Also Our child is canadian.
Boss, Congrats in advance....if I may ask...you sai your child is canadian and that your wife just got her study extension approved....so I wana know, did your wife give birth to your child as an international student?

Hi guys, its been a while and a big shout out to all the mighty men of valor who have kept this space educative and helpful. May those good dreams of ours come true.
I have not been here for some months now due to academic and general work life in Canada. I decided to come and learn from here as usual so I stumbled on this argument/debate on PGD(C) and I feel my input may help someone.
I will not bring you guys back since the argument on this is closed but will quickly speak from my experience as someone who is already in the system.
First, some information that fly around sometimes are far from being true. I am wondering how someone would generalize that PGD(C) is often pursued by those who had a 3rd class. This should not be passed around. Personally,I applied for Masters program at UOttawa (MEM) but due to the fact that I had a second class lower,it was pretty difficult getting the admission because, the standard for admission remains high and it would only favour those with upper and sometimes strong upper. Having said that, there are many ways to kill a bird and you may choose to go for the best one.
Without mincing words,PGD(C) in Canada is not a cheap program as you may think...if you doubt me,find out about some programmes like Infrastructure System Management (ISM) ,Network and Security Architecture et al. Find out how many second class upper from across the globe Nigerians inclusive could manage to complete the program. Some of them leaves the program at the end of a semester or mid-way into the semester because its highly demanding. I am indirectly telling you that, some second class upper student are in the college running different courses that are industry based.
In my few months of stay,I have met people from across the globe with such a great knowledge and skills,I have met people in a very big automobile industry where I work as a Quality Inspector even as a part time student. Take this from me,companies here celebrate your skills and certifications and not "degrees". In as much as I celebrate my friends in the academics (PhD bound people),if you approach some of MSc candidates here, they will tell you that, if they had any plan to go and work in the industry, they will prefer to come to college for diploma or any industry based teaching program because, you are coming to learn what you will use in the industry. Industries come to college to request the different kind of skill sets they want and based on that, some programmes are designed.
I want whoever is considering PGD(C) as a means of entry not to be discouraged,it is a channel to come in and from there you can go to any University you want provided you have B as the average grade for all your courses. I have completed the first semester of my program,my grades are really great and with that I can conveniently apply to any university against Winter 2017 that is if I don't get a job before then.

Please I want those who are thinking of entering through PGD(C) to pursue it and if you can get masters admission good luck. The end will always justify the means. All that matter is having a skill set that is needed in the industry and get a job in a class A,O or B as specified in the NOC list.

Another matter of concern to me,I have been part of the international volunteers welcoming new students into school for Fall and from what I saw,it shows a decline in the number of students from Nigeria. I am not happy with this because I was expecting our people to come in and continue to populate Canada. I pray God turn around the table in our favour and restore us to the place of many TRV approvals!

michV:
i was placed on a Ban since last week which i could not partake on the argument of PGD(C).i don't think such argument should be brought to this part 11 anymore and whoever says pgd(c) is not an academic progression,it is a capital LIE.Two of my friends are in canada on a PGC program! PGC study programs are mostly aimed at a targeted work. But the issue i v observed from Nairaland is 69% of pgc(d) applicants are 3rd class degree holders and as i feel,a VO could be afraid of issuing you TRV even if the program relates, cos he doesn't feel your real intention is to study in Canada/you might not cope with the academic challenges and abandon your studies for hustling cool.mind you Canada wants your brain and not only your money. some even choose low programs level below their Bsc and come here and say it's PGC(D)
secondly, some are already masters holder and they apply for pgd(c) and obliviously declaring the masters degree on their applications,so tell me how a VO would be convinced about your purpose of visit?
Thirdly,as i have seen on some people's post, even with the correlation of program, they got refused,i feel also the VO have not convincingly seen why you need a pgc(d) at that particular point in ur career,e.g the prospects of the intended program, will the pgd(c) elevate ur profile from a level 9 staff to manager? will it also increase ur salary from 10k to 90k? e.t.c,these are sentiments to consider. if you have a good paying job and have worked for many years...,masters/phd/mba is the alternative route if your intention is to Study
fourthly, having done your best even at choosing the program that relates and convincing the VO,a VO might still not want to give you the TRV and refuse you on silly excuses.so if you can get a masters admission, the safer..
i disassociate myself from PGC(D) arguments because some i didnt say all applicants here are complex students and they would not reveal the underlying facts of their profiles which could be exclusively behind their refusals which now result to unwarranted arguments occupying spaces/pages here on Nairaland. Till i get my own reply from Accra..i take my self back to a low key mode.

Thank you.

Hello Everyone,

Grateful to God for journey mercies. BTW it's a good thing that every prospective trv holder should remain positive. It might not sound easy but in every category, trvs are granted, both PGC, Dips and Masters.

I met a girl who is now my friend while travelling through Casablanca and she is Nigerian. She got approved after waiting since March and she is going for a diploma program. Funny enough, she was not as familiar with NL. So, truthfully visas in every category are granted, some are not just heard of. Denials have their reasons and as such must be investigated thoroughly before refiring.

I'm not trying to cause any agitation, rather just to encourage people who may need it at this point.

@yemdogg... I'll get through to you asap, latest by Tuesday. Tomorrow is a holiday...#means of comm atm#

Hi....

I don't know the airport you may wanna come in through, but for Ottawa Intl airport, try avoiding excess fish. As well as milk and milo... As per the rest food stuffs, just like the other moniker said, declare them...those i'm certain won't be ceased. But excess fish and then beverages, I can't be too sure as I saw them collected. #NB YOW airport#

And then, which ever bags you put them in may not count cuz as long as you declare, all bags will go through search, possibly xrayed.

I even put a tuber of yam bottom bottom of my bag. They didnt dig up to that part because when they saw my bag, they said madam, your packing is correct oh, And they just passed my bags without much digging. I put everything in ziploc bags and labelled them. The yam made the bag heavy sha but i didnt mind bc i had pickup arranged at airport.
I went with all youve mentioned , then my spices for stew and 3bottles of groundnuts in plastic bottles. No dry fish tho. Everything i checked in baggage

Also, if I say, they gave me a different letter after I applied, won't they ask me where the first one is?

Thank you.
