Please i need help making a decision. I studied mechanical engineering with a first class in Nigeria university and currently considering masters or phd in USA schools. My questions are
* concerning post masters opt issue, which region is best to study? as have read people's comments that the 13 States in the east coast holds more opportunity for engineers after study than other region, how true is this?
*secondly, is it advisable to apply for phd directly or apply for masters degree, will the phd limit job/opt search?
Have seen many Internet pages talking about how easy to get opt in IT/elect than in Mechanical engineering. Since i can't shift my career at this point to IT, i really need help to make a wise decision base on what's on ground.
Good afternoon, Please, i need response to this questions so as to make a wise decision on my applications

Use Google to search for courses that match your interest.
Then contact the schools and ask for details of their job placement success.
Good, successful schools will be happy to send you details.

What you have is what you get. Transcript evaluation is not magic.

The biggest of them is wes.

Just want to take this time to appreciate some persons on this thread. Over 90% of fall2016 successful applicants that are in the USA now have abandon this thread. I personally think that's very wrong and it ought not to be so. Even if it's tight acdemic schedules or economic/financial issues, sharing them here will help some persons in the future. Where ell those enthusiastic fall applicants that gained a lot from this thread? Immediately them entre US them bone the thread. Your stories will motivate future applicants. I know time is of the essence and we all learn in different way with different learning capacity but so far as am concern even with work and study one can still spare time to come here and drop something inspiring. To this end I want to appreciate couple of persons that have ensure that there's still flavour on this thread... Respect to Lagosismyhome, imperiouxx, bilkeys, warriboy, slimmy, MsNas, and to all those who take out time to drop something on this thread whenever they see the need to do so.

The second category of people I want to appreciate are those fall applicants that still find time to come here despite the busy schedule of their various programs here in the US. Believe you me your stories will move someone here tomorrow... Someone story brought you... so let's keep the good work. In all sincerity I want to send a big shout out to oludare, Dickoflife, sureboy, and all other fall2016 applicants that still adds quality to this thread. Abeg way fortissimo, meekandholy, purplesummer, and all those that benefited in one way or the other from this thread? share something... I tell you it will inspire someone someday. God bless you all. Winks
We are sorry, some of us are still trying to adapt and settle down. Education here is different from Nigeria where they give us assignment and we all wait for someone to do it then copy the next morning. every class you get assignments here. I slept 3am doing assignments last night and have to wake up 7:30am for a 9:30am class. Just painted a scenerio for you to know it wasnt deliberate. with time we will fully adapt. not our intention to abadon here

Wonderful people on here.....

Guys, the first prof I mailed has caused some 'ish' for me. He replied almost immediately and we got talking.... The other schools professors I'm mailing, Damn!....I'm still waiting if they would reply tomorrow, 2 weeks plus now... No word... Like 3 different people...

Should I send reminders? And how often?
Same problem I'm facing.

I'm facing the same issue currently. But, I have tried treat it as a numbers game. You win some, you lose some. I discovered grad school coordinators are more apt to reply promptly compared to faculty members. And the higher their rank, the lesser the chance they'll get back to you. I e-mailed 6 of them, only one Prof replied me consistently. Others went blank. Though I started during the summer break.

- It may be that the profs are not currently accepting new students
- Or that they got your mail, are interested in replying, but just plainly forgot to do so!
- Or they may feel you've not understood their research interests enough for them to pay attention to you, and reply you
- Or your mails just got dumped in the spam folder, since they are cold emails

Whatever it may be, I've discovered that most are situations completely outside our control.

This worked for me though. A sample of the first email I sent.

Subject: I'm highly interested in (your request) in your (Prof's field) lab

Prof's Name:

Hello Sir/Ma,

My name is XXXX, and I have completed SO SO SO degree from XYZ school.

I'm highly interested in joining your research lab focused on developing and optimizing cutting-edge approaches to delivering drugs and genes in humans for better living conditions.

I'm currently working at AAA (briefly explain your profile here, and how you think you'll be beneficial to him/her).

I completed my BSc with a (GPA), and (your brief achievements, one line at most).

I'm passionate about SO SO , and would love to (what you want to know/ask) + (Indicate a sense of urgency to show seriousness).

So, I sent the same email four days after, also on a week day, with a Re: I'm highly interested in (your request) in your (Prof's field) lab subject, and started with this note.

Hello Prof ABC,

Hope you're doing great? Just sending you a gentle reminder on the request for contact for research studies at ABC.

Closing: I'm sure you must be really busy, and I don't want to seem interrupting.

Hope you can find a few minutes on this. I appreciate your reply.
