1. You don't brood with lantern; that lantern cannot supply enough heat to go round

2.Chances of those birds contracting a respiratory disease is high as a result if the lantern usage.

3.Your brooding space is quite small..They're broilers; they poop a lot, and they need some space as they grow quite fast

it's nice seeing how people are passionate about agriculture, I hated breeding fowls, because all the farmers I have met all my life probably didn't have enough information to go with because half of their fowls die after harvest, but just last month I decided to give it a try, armed with all the informations I had researched,i bought 7 broilers to start with, it's one month now, it amazes me how fast they grow, they are so healthy, am thinking of starting a big farm next year, for sure I gonna open a thread about it here on nairaland.

kudos op....

I have absolutely no intentions of raising chickens...you raise.....I buy and chop! Interesting thread! Organic is the way to go...and you are really going organic. Two things. ...more space needed...which has you are taking are of....and...flooring. Shouldn't it be like mesh flooring to allow a ehmmm... kinda poop free floor?

In my extreme quest for organic revolution in Nigeria. I will be doing a powerful project on broilers. My aim is to :

1. Reduce the reliance on costly chicken vaccination by fortifying my broilers with powerful cheap naturally occurring herbs from nature.
2. Enhance feed conversion ratio using fermented conventional feeds to grow super size broilers within 3 months that will out perform conventional Farmer's result. Note: This revolution won't be total, but should prove a better cheap option to overtly reliance on drugs to produce broilers.

So far I ordered 50 broilers from Chi Farm and got delivery yesterday. At 220 per chicks. My investment begins with 11800 Naira. 800 for transportation.

I bought one bag of top feed broiler starter at 3210 Naira. 500 Naira for transportations.

I will be using lacto bascillus and Garlic extract. They both cost 4000. 2000 each per liter.

I have 51 birds... No mortality after the second day. I am serving chicks with fermented feed of lactos bascillus and Garlic extract in water through out.

In four days I will be introducing bamboo shoots to handle coccidiosis

So as usual I will be keeping my costs very low.

Edited.
NB: Marek's vaccination was given as a standard at the Hatchery. Apart from this nothing else will be given... You can follow me on the journey and watch how I depart from the norms with astonishing results

sent you a message on ur gmail kindly reply back Umar Farouq Idris is the sender

Bro please how much and where did u get this digital scale quote author=organicfoods post=50037576]I lost one chick yesterday. I have been noticing black poo lately and I suspect the dead chick to be responsible. All things being equal... 49 chicks are still bubbling with life. Its like some chicks are destined to die no matter what you give them.

Meanwhile the weight of the chicks are on home runs.

2 mortality so far.

The first pix is the highest weigth recorded after 8 days 177g. The last pix is the lowest weight 122g. Meanwhile, these guys have grubbed more than 8kg already. Average weight stand at 143g.

Great job sir. Well done! I admire your courage as this a bold step in the right direction. Other farmers tend to gain from this. If you take your biosecurity seriously, you could actually pull this off...I read somewhere that Christmas Melon (Tagiri) works well in the prevention of NCD amongst other diseases. Why not give it a shot?...Following this thread! Hehehehe...I think I have something on you.

I'm gon keep it my little secret tho. I'll give you tips every now and again.
