This is the only issue i have gotten to agree with Drop shot, i see some people claiming this callous act is discipline

so asking children to pass through Inhumane experiences is discipline in your words..chai. Africa upon all it's "discipline" is still the least developed continent, the most exposed to communicable diseases, the lowest mortality rate and highest maternity deaths

Discipline indeed; i am sure many of u cant let ur kids go through this,i can bet that 48% of the students in that school are house-helps, nannies and people living with guardians

if a teacher puts my son through this he/she might make it out with a few lost tooth, but if a teacher puts my daughter through this walahi either that teacher or myself will be under the sand before the next full moon cus this planet will not contain the both of us, THIS IS NOT A THREAT

These are the the kind of events that can bring out the boxer in a man. Any teacher wey try am for my unborn child go collect well

With all these so called discipline wey older generation pass through for naija na dem dem still land us for our current mess.

This is just small naa to be compared to what they did to us at Ugborimili Primary School, Onitsha.

Ours is after kneeling down till the assembly is over then you will be flogged strokes of cane on your two bare foots together with a very big cane by the teacher.

You won't even see the legs to walk to your classroom, you will just stay there like a crippled person with tears in your eyes, while the female folks will be crying out loud, we the big boys cry inside.

That woman is just wicked. If I see her on the road, the rest will be history.

What is barbaric here? It is discipline my Dear OP. Some of us experienced it while in primary school. For some of us it was kneel down + flogging.

Yes, it made lots of kids understand the importance of punctuality.

I think you need to visit a shrink, you obviously need help, you nigerians have gone from being barbaric to becoming apelike, you see children being made to crawl in the mud and this was your response to such child abuse? how do you instill discipline by doing such? when kids come late often you simply write their parents and ask them to make them come early, why is it difficult for some nigerians to tell the difference between right prove wrong? so because slaves were sold in the past then if someone tries tp enslave people today you will come out and say after all some people were enslaved in the past or maybe people should continue killing twins afterall twins were killed in the past, besides i am so sure no teacher ever made you crawl in the mud,you nigerians have formed a habit of dropping careless talk online, becareful because people can use it against you tomorrow.

I understand your argument but I disagree. Corporal punishment is not more effective than watering flowers because watering flower denies the child something he values - his playtime with his classmates. That is the PUNISHMENT in it. And these are just examples. There are other creative ways. The truth, which you people refuse to consider, is that corporal punishment has not worked because our schools are for the most part turning out cultists, runs girls, election riggers, ritualists and treasury looters. Alamieyeseigha, Odili, Obasanjo and the rest of them all went through these schools where corporal punishment held sway. Obama, Cameron and others went to schools where punishment amounted to watering flowers. Go figure.
Because they value the flowers, abi? My dear, leave this matter.I have taught in schools for years and I know this your proposition will not work in most parts of this country.Corporal Punishment cannot be ditched in this society,Fact
I have still known some Nigerians that watered flowers abroad, came and stole us blind(names withheld, but Nigerians know them)
Its extremes, fine, can be checked thoroughly....but u cannot write out its need in Nigeria and Africa

This is so far from that. They're all below 12 sef! There are so many other ways of instilling discipline in kids than this! This will bring fear instead!

I'm ashamed of this your post. This is 21st century and there are better ways of instilling discipline than this demeaning and reprehensible method.

I won't accept this punishment or anything close to it for my children from any school.

Modified*
No need to quote me to spew nonsense such as "how old are you?". Or "I'm sure you have no children" and "this is how our children get spoiled without disciplining them".

Just use pestle and planks on yours or throw them in oven all in the name of instilling discipline in them.

End of story.
You are spot on. This mode of punishment or instilling discipline on errant students is most barbaric and unacceptable in this day and age. There are more decent and acceptable ways of achieving the same objective.

No.
After a while, those kids ll v bruised knees. That's terrible. Flogging them not too much strokes of cane, cleaning the school ll be better. Those kids am seeing in the post are not ripe for army exercise.

These days, kids come to school by 9 and teachers still welcome them; private schools though. But this kinda punishment can make one lose concentration in class. There should be other ways.

Within urself choose, would u send ur ward to study in this kind of school? That's if u've got the money. Obviously not. Afterall all upon the punishment most of them still come out hardened without vision. The teachers end up cooking more punishments than teaching them.

Reminds me of my secondary school days: a Senior Student punished me for making noise in class, I was asked to cut grass (very big field)just for noise making.
Instead of learning from such, I became more arrogant and plotted to deal with the senior student.
I didn't deserve such.
I can't put my children in such a school.

So I don't encourage this practice at all. I've not seen anyone who gave testimony that such method helped him or her during school days.
you must be an indomie generation...this type of punishment helped us

I just Taya for this kain discipline embarassed

For petes sakes the punctuality of children in primary school is normally down to parents.

In secondary school then yes it is down to to the child as they are getting ready for life.

And for all those saying that's how we were trained most Nigerians are generally the worst time keepers ever. That's why you will give someone an appointment for 2 and the person getting there at 2 is seen as strange.

Perhaps you should read the word of God.

"Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them."- Proverbs 13:24

" Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away." Proverbs 22:15

"because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son."- Hebrews 12:6

Do you love your child?

kekekekeke this one got be cracking here. in other news, that was how a guy cut off his joy stick and said the bible says " if your right eye causes you yo sin plug it out"
Now back to you,if God was using the rod on you accordingly as u sin,do u think u will be alive or normal to write this It takes wisdom to understand the word of God. I am not saying never discipline your child but never mistake your child for an animal all because of a crime that words could possibly correct.
the kind of rod I uses on my kid is the word of God, Morals and immediate corrections and every of her mistakes.
Pray for wisdom to understand God's word. His words are beautiful, carefully made without any errors. Thank You.

This is very sad. My question is this, would this children be able to concentrate in class after this kind of ill-treatment?
I call it ill because these are Pupils--kids!!....and truly, for most of them, the fault is from their parents who didn't get them set on time or guardians who must have them do 1010 chore before leaving for school.
Yes I support that kids should be punished when they have erred but I say NO to this method of showing them they have done something. There are so many others ways to go about it..

Don't be ashamed bro, I'm reeling my experience and I don't consider it BARBARIC.

There is nothing special about the 21st century, kneeling down is normal and has been working since 1900.

No wonder kids of 19th and 20th century are more disciplined than some of our 21st century kids.

Punctuality is the soul of business/professionalism.

Which school is a formative school that I didn't pass through?

That you needed a bully to make you and your parents do the right didn't mean every other pupil in your class needed to be bullied to arrive early in school.

Lastly, I went to public primary school and secondary school. So, I experienced all form of corporal punishment anyone can think of. Now as a father, I need no lecturing on acceptable methods of discipline.
