Hey, people; I have a problem and I need someone's help here.

I got admitted into a school in the US, but I was required to have a Skype interview as a part of the admission processes in order to win a book scholarship worth $500 per semester. I booked the appointment, but the school did not honour it the first time, but we fixed another day and time and they honoured it this time. Now, here's the problem.

At the time of the interview, immediately I answered the Skype call from the director, I realised that I could hear him very well but couldn't see him at all. On the other hand, he could neither hear nor see me. He called repeatedly, the same situation. I tried to call him but it didn't go through. He was disappointed, so he asked me a question by typing it out which read,

''Have you ever used this Skype to speak with someone in the US before now?''

I said no.

He then said it is possible that there are some requirements that cover those using Skype in some countries which I might have not done. He also said he was getting a message that ''this person can only receive IM''. So, after several attempts which proved abortive, he resorted to calling me on phone. I gave him my number and we spoke for over 5 minutes. But the thing is that he said he still wanted to speak with me on Skype.

So, I told him that my brother studied IT and would be coming back soon so he would check to rectify whatever problem the skype had. And he said he was looking forward to it.

Immediately I ended the call, I made a Skype call to someone in Cyprus, and it worked fine, except for the fact that the visuals were shaking and the voice was breaking. And the person said the fault was from my Skype, cos he had never experience any difficulty using his Skype before. And whenever I use the Skype to call people within Nigeria, it always works fine.

So, what I did now was to upgrade the Skype app, hoping that it would solve the problem. My bro couldn't do anything. I now want to call the US director and fix another appointment. However, I really would want to test the Skype with someone in the US first, to confirm that it is working very well with those in the US before calling the director. I can't afford to call him now, and experience the same problem. I must assure him that I have successfully solved the problem before fixing another appointment.

So, I need someone in the US that I can call with my Skype and be sure that it is working well before I call the director. The director is in Ohio, so if anyone is in Ohio, that would be be perfectly fine. But anywhere in the US would not be bad either.

Pls, if you are in the US and you don't mind a Skype video call with me, kindly PM me or ask me to PM you to exchange skype addresses and fix an appointment. Please, kindly understand that the main essence of this is to confirm whether my Skype can now work with the US before I fix an appointment with my school for another Skype call, so no strings attached. So, pls if you are in the US, kindly help.

And pls, if you have an idea on what problem my Skype may be having, pls kindly suggest solutions. But I still need to video call someone in the US to confirm that it's now working fine.

Hope there's someone who can help me.

Thanks.

I have a cpga of 2:80 can I get a school in maryland that can take that for my masters?
why limit yourself to Maryland? There are considerably number of schools that will give you admision with that, you will need to do GRE/gmat and maybe toefl to increase your chances. You will also get schools in maryland but thats like putting your egg in one basket

Hey, I'm in Ohio. If you haven't scheduled a Skype video call test yet, you can PM. I'm available almost anytime.
Then again, I'll advise you connect using WIFI from Spectranet, Smile and the likes. Using MTN, Etisalat, Airtel or Glo won't cut it.
I've had a Skype video call with a member of this thread in Nigeria, I could hear and see him (though the video was of poor quality as he was using MTN), but this was after several attempts modifying different issues.

Guys, please i need some clarification. I'm a little confused on whether to put a faculty's name on my MS personal statement or not. On one hand, i feel if i don't put it, the admissions committee might not know which faculty to ask if there's vacancy, which might lead to denial; on the other hand, i think if i include a faculty's name and the faculty happens not to have a vacancy in his lab, that might also be denial...what do you guys think?

Thanks. From this your post I can figure out that the likely problem is my network. I use/used MTN, in fact I bought 1 gigabyte for that particular purpose.
Unfortunately, I don't know what spectranet, Smile and the likes mean. I'm not really internet-savvy. Also, I don't reside in a place where there is wifi at all. So, I have only been using MTN which works well for Skype calls within Nigeria, worked partially from Nigeria to Cyprus. So, I'm thinking there is a particular reason it didn't work at all to call the US. I couldn't call the director with my Skype, I could only answer his own call. And I could only hear his voice without seeing him. But he could neither hear nor see me.
I have PMd you anyway, we may exchange skype addresses and fix an appointment from there. I haven't scheduled a call with anyone else, but even if I have, testing it with more people shouldn't cause any harm. It will only make me more assured that it now works well, and I will even tell the director that I have used the Skype to call MANY people in the US.
I've sent you a PM.

Thanks. My modem can use any network, though I use it with an MTN sim. Is that the same thing as Smile modem, cos I have no idea what that means? And MTN has the best network in my location, and I have no access to wifi.
I'd love to PM you but Nairaland says I cannot PM two people. I just sent a PM to someone now. You may PM me, or I do that tomorrow. I'm not sure about weekends yet, but we can always fix any other time that suits you, though I wouldn't want this to be long.

Well, Only the admison commitee can answer this well. i felt like this 2 while i was writing my sop 2 then. I played smart and included like 2 to 3 faculty members in my sop...had 5 admits out of 6....Said that just for you to make a better judgement. see an excerpts from my sops ''I have chosen to pursue graduate studies at the Bleep State University because by working under the guidance of distinguished professors like Prof Ayman Okeil, Prof Aly-Mousaad Aly and Prof Michele Barbato, whose interests match closely with mine, I am confident of making an original contribution to the field of Structural Engineering.
I am particularly interested in Professor Ayman Okeil and Professor Michele Barbato‟s work and believe their contribution to structural engineering is very vital. Also, their work is in line with my interests, current training level and technical experience, making it an ideal choice for me. I will be more than honoured if I can earn a spot in their research group

see another below 'I have chosen to pursue graduate studies at University of Bleep because by working under the guidance of distinguished faculty like Dr. David Weggel and Dr. David Bayer, whose interests match closely with mine, I am confident of making an original contribution to the field of Structural Engineering. I think you need to help yourself, nobody will spoon feed you accept maybe that person has first hand info about the exact situation in that school. so my brother/sister the best anyone can do is to just give you a general overview and you get to work, if you have any question you can come here to ask. So step 1) Search for schools using a) www.google.com b)www.gradschools.com c)www.msinus.com d) www.usnews.com e) www.4icu.org read this website for an idea about the admision process http://graddecision.org/. 2) check up the website of the schools to see the requirements. 3) Send your application and back it up with prayers. With the riight school, good application and GOD, you stand a good chance with funding and admision. This is just a summary of the initial process.I wont deceive you, the process is overwhelming but take step by step. DONT GIVE YOUR LIFE/DESTINY TO AN AGENT PLEASE. and by the way, you didnt send your gre score to any school? if you ask me, that was a costly mistake..now you will have to send your gre school to each school you end up applying to at a cost and the exchange rate is not smiling..there is still alot to spend money on

Thank you. Actually they are not being fussy. I wrote it in my post that the director actually resorted to a phone call after several failed attempts of a Skype convo. I think he just has a personal interest in having a Skype call with me, 'cos I figure out that something probably struck in in my app essays and frequent emails. And for him to have said he still wanted to have a Skype convo with me after the phone call, I'm personally elated.

There are Cafes in Naija but I think those ones are worse, cos the last time I visited a cafe, I couldn't even watch a YouTube video due to poor network, something I do conveniently at home.

You are talking about 2 different things..application fee is paid for admision, you pay it to school...sevi is not paid for admsion, its paid for visa interview purposes. you might be able to pay app fee with your naija atm but you can only pay sevi by looking for someone abroad to mae the payment for you..abroad can be UK, US ,Ghana etc

Hi guys, my visa was delayed on Monday by 7am window 9, the hall was crowded and vos kinda strict that day.

I had an admission at Central Michigan University, but like I posted earlier in this forum, the major in my i20 was liberal arts and sciences, I sent an email to the admission school asking why that was given when I was expected to have Information technology, they relief that, that's the norm that the main major shall be given up on arrival at the school, I had no choice but to start studying on what liberal arts and sciences is all about.
Now back to the interview. Which last for less than 2mins
In the cubicle were 2vos, I guess a junior was standing while the senior was sitted and he interviewed me.
Vo: what's your study plan
Me; im going to cmu to pursue a bachelors in liberal arts and sciences which will last approximately 36months
Vo:What was your previous degree in,
Me: computer science from the university of ibadan.
Vo: what benefit will this course be to you
Me: it will boost my managerial skills and make me more effective in my communication skills and my mode of reasoning ethically.

Next he typed for like a minute and gave me the 214b booklet and my passport.

Now, I've contacted the school and explained everything to them, they apologised and even said they are making my case an exception and giving sending me another I20 that will have the major in information technology, , the officer suggested that I should defer the admission till fall intake as time may not be OK to book for another appointment. School resumes 9tj January for spring.

Pls guys walspring, textrem, others kindly advice if i should defer toll fall or go ahead and book another appointment and also will going for another bsc be a problem?
