Hi guys, my visa was delayed on Monday by 7am window 9, the hall was crowded and vos kinda strict that day.

I had an admission at Central Michigan University, but
Pls guys walspring, textrem, others kindly advice if i should defer toll fall or go ahead and book another appointment and also will going for another bsc be a problem?

Sorry about your denial but i think i have mentioned it to you. .... you have a Bsc in Computer science so to say you are going for another bsc in information technology is very hard to convince a VO. .... both degrees are very similar and doesn't show progression. Especially when your first degree is from Uni of Ibadan which at least in Nigeria standard is a reputable school so u should show progression

I had an admission at Central Michigan University, but like I posted earlier in this forum, the major in my i20 was liberal arts and sciences, I sent an email to the admission school asking why that was given when I was expected to have Information technology, they relief that, that's the norm that the main major shall be given up on arrival at the school, I had no choice but to start studying on what liberal arts and sciences is all about.
Now back to the interview. Which last for less than 2mins
In the cubicle were 2vos, I guess a junior was standing while the senior was sitted and he interviewed me.
Vo: what's your study plan
Me; im going to cmu to pursue a bachelors in liberal arts and sciences which will last approximately 36months
Vo:What was your previous degree in,
Me: computer science from the university of ibadan.
Vo: what benefit will this course be to you
Me: it will boost my managerial skills and make me more effective in my communication skills and my mode of reasoning ethically.
Next he typed for like a minute and gave me the 214b booklet and my passport.
Now, I've contacted the school and explained everything to them, they apologised and even said they are making my case an exception and giving sending me another I20 that will have the major in information technology, , the officer suggested that I should defer the admission till fall intake as time may not be OK to book for another appointment. School resumes 9tj January for spring.

really sorry your denial, but going for another degree in information technology doesn't make sense, it just look like going for another degree in computer science because both course are similar, so my advice is for you to defer and change your course or you go for masters

Greetings to everyone in the house. Please, I'd appreciate any piece of advice from the gurus here with regards to my admission and chances for funding for Fall 2017.

My undergraduate major was Petroleum Engineering and I don't really want to further in that area 'cos it's quite streamlined and also considering the current situation in d upstream sector of d oil n gas industry, I don't think I'd be wise to do Masters in d same field.

I am considering switching to Mechanical Engineering (or something close) which I think has a better job prospects over there in the US.....kindly correct me if I'm wrong. The problem now is that most schools i checked in d US require UG degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering as a prerequisite for Masters/PhD in Mechanical Engineering....which means taking some UG course before d masters program n this requires more money. shocked

Please can anyone kindly help with schools where I can be admitted in Mechanical Engineering with full or partial funding for Fall 2017. Funding of any form (GA, TA, RA, etc) is a priority, and the schools ranking for now doesn't matter to me.

Please, can someone also suggest other STEM courses which I can easily switch to in order to secure funding and for better job prospects after graduation? Ur assistance will be highly appreciated. I want to start applying immediately to meet up with most schools priority deadlines...

Below is a summary of my profile:
UG Degree: Petroleum Engineering
CGPA: 4.23/5.00 (3.57/4.00 after WES conversion)
GRE : 305 (154Q, 152V, AW 3.5)
TOEFL: About to write
Years of Work Experience: 3+

Don't know how to proceed now.....Please make una help me.... embarassed

Your reply to that question was too vague and general. You needed to be specific and clear about how you plan to use the course to further your career back here in Nigeria.
Let the school send another I-20. Before it gets here, once it's ready, they can give you the details you'll need to book an appointment while you pay the fees in time for a December interview, most likely.

All the best!

Can you convince yourself why switching will be a plus for your career? Do you want MechE or 'other STEM courses'? You did your UG, so you should be able to know what field you want to advance in. One good thing about STEM though is that you should be more concerned about research interests, more than the department. There's a great deal of overlap between different Engr departments these days.

E.g. You can work on Energy research in Chem, Mech, Met & Mat, Biological, Agricultural or even Elect.

As for the schools, you'll need to get a ranking list of grad programs in MechE, check the ones that fit your profile and dig up more.

All the best!

I am too amazed by that interview. VOs didn't fall from he sky. They are aware some schools give general major before moving to specialist major. The truth would have really helped him but instead he chooses to mumbo jumbo.

You guys should use google...all the info you need is out there angry

Anyway your brother should find western union where he is and do some steps before he gets to western union office.... https://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/wu-instructions

Alternatively he can pay through a certified check drawn from a U.S. bank....but this takes longer to clear

Hello Everyone,

As we all know, this is a forum to be for students who intend to study in America. My contribution is that people should do more personal findings about schools and programmes. Since the application window for most universities in US is still open for Fall 2017 intake, the College Week Programme is ongoing. You can ask questions directly from representatives of schools in the programme.

Visa approved this morning. I want to use this medium to appreciate all 'nairalanders' for their willingness to help and share useful info. I've been here for less than 10days and the only regret I have is not getting to know about this platform early enough. I'm 200% confident that if I had access to the plethora of info on ds platform while choosing schools I would have worked harder to get a GA or a scholarship.

However, credit must go to lagosismyhome, walspring, texrem, femi321, oludare01 etc for all d previous info. It was of immense benefit.

God bless you all
