Please can anyone kindly help with schools where I can be admitted in Mechanical Engineering with full or partial funding for Fall 2017. Funding of any form (GA, TA, RA, etc) is a priority, and the schools ranking for now doesn't matter to me.

Please, can someone also suggest other STEM courses which I can easily switch to in order to secure funding and for better job prospects after graduation? Ur assistance will be highly appreciated. I want to start applying immediately to meet up with most schools priority deadlines...

Below is a summary of my profile:
UG Degree: Petroleum Engineering
CGPA: 4.23/5.00 (3.57/4.00 after WES conversion)
GRE : 305 (154Q, 152V, AW 3.5)
TOEFL: About to write
Years of Work Experience: 3+

Don't know how to proceed now.....Please make una help me....
Chairman since you are interested in Postgraduate, what you should do immediately is to start contacting Professors.
The most effective approach is to use google to seek profs that need RA/GA or that have multiple positions for MECH/CHEM
use the phrase below to search "I am looking for self-motivated Ph.D students Mechanical"
you can thank me later.
Create a simple mail. make sure you follow the instructions on the profs personal page. (this is the most effective approach)

Well, Only the admison commitee can answer this well. i felt like this 2 while i was writing my sop 2 then. I played smart and included like 2 to 3 faculty members in my sop...had 5 admits out of 6....Said that just for you to make a better judgement. see an excerpts from my sops ''I have chosen to pursue graduate studies at the Bleep State University because by working under the guidance of distinguished professors like Prof Ayman Okeil, Prof Aly-Mousaad Aly and Prof Michele Barbato, whose interests match closely with mine, I am confident of making an original contribution to the field of Structural Engineering.
I am particularly interested in Professor Ayman Okeil and Professor Michele Barbato‟s work and believe their contribution to structural engineering is very vital. Also, their work is in line with my interests, current training level and technical experience, making it an ideal choice for me. I will be more than honoured if I can earn a spot in their research group
''

see another below 'I have chosen to pursue graduate studies at University of Bleep because by working under the guidance of distinguished faculty like Dr. David Weggel and Dr. David Bayer, whose interests match closely with mine, I am confident of making an original contribution to the field of Structural Engineering. I am particularly interested in Dr. David Weggel‟s work and believe that his contribution to structural engineering is very vital. Hello People,

Sorry I've been off radar on this thread. I took the advise given sometime ago to write the GRE; so I've been active on that thread for a while

Sadly, I didn't do too well in the test Q161 V154

Now, I'm all out for schools that suit my profile and can provide funding.
I kindly solicit help with schools that match my profile

Profile again:
CGPA: 3.55/4 (Converted from 5.7/7)
IELTS: 8/9
GRE: 315 (Is this fair enough or I should consider a re-take?)
Little research experience
But 2 years+ Industry Experience with Renewable Energy/ Power Industry.

Ambition: MSc / PhD Power and Renewable Energies, Smart Grid, Electrical Engineering
I'm looking at a top tier school, UC Berkeley...(I hope this is not merely Utopian?) and then middle-tier and safe net schools

I appreciate the effort of Happyday who sent me some schools but not all offer my specialization. I've started mailing Program Coordinators.

Electronic, I assume you're kind of familiar with this field, any suggestions?

I'd also appreciate guidance on crafting an excellent SOP and how to package my application.
Any material or blog that can be helpful?

Looking forward to response(s).

Sorry but you have answered this yourself!
You are 33 (very old)
You are still single (bad immigration risk)
course is not related with my work experience (even worse risk)

You have presented a very poor application full of red flags to the VO.
Lol. 33 is not very old for him. He's a man and can decide when to get married. What failed him obviously, was how he responded to questions. Single and bad immigration risk? No. I have a friend who got his visa @45.

Even at that, you can tell a VO, especially a female VO that it's the right age brack to mingle and get married thereafter. You just have to apply humor, when a question which you're uncomfortable with is being asked.

Humor is important in our lives to brighten up our day.

Visa delayed today window 4, 6.30am Lagos

VO - pass your i20 and passport
me - i passed it and said good morning ma, she didnt answer
VO - typing for a long time
VO - so you are going to Ball state University
Me - yes ma i am going to Ball state university
Vo - so you have a degree in English language
me - yes ma
Vo - and now you are going for a degree in law?
Me - before i open my mouth i saw my passport and she was saying come back next time i cannot approve your visa at this time. I didnt say anything or ask a question, i was sad.

Mehnnn i am down right now, she didnt ask me anything all i read and practice was like waste, she was just answering questions for me. I dont know what to do right now.
Sorry about that. You know I told you moving from English to Law talkless of American Law is very difficult. That America and British Law is quite different. Maybe the UK would have approved your visa but for the US is so hard to convince them.

Your situation is simple. Go get masters degree admission in English Language and re-apply.

Make sure you take at least one standardized test preferably the GRE as this could be your "saving grace."

Hi guys, my visa was delayed on Monday by 7am window 9, the hall was crowded and vos kinda strict that day.

I had an admission at Central Michigan University, but like I posted earlier in this forum, the major in my i20 was liberal arts and sciences, I sent an email to the admission school asking why that was given when I was expected to have Information technology, they relief that, that's the norm that the main major shall be given up on arrival at the school, I had no choice but to start studying on what liberal arts and sciences is all about.
Now back to the interview. Which last for less than 2mins
In the cubicle were 2vos, I guess a junior was standing while the senior was sitted and he interviewed me.
Vo: what's your study plan
Me; im going to cmu to pursue a bachelors in liberal arts and sciences which will last approximately 36months
Vo:What was your previous degree in,
Me: computer science from the university of ibadan.
Vo: what benefit will this course be to you
Me: it will boost my managerial skills and make me more effective in my communication skills and my mode of reasoning ethically.

Next he typed for like a minute and gave me the 214b booklet and my passport.

Now, I've contacted the school and explained everything to them, they apologised and even said they are making my case an exception and giving sending me another I20 that will have the major in information technology, , the officer suggested that I should defer the admission till fall intake as time may not be OK to book for another appointment. School resumes 9tj January for spring.

Pls guys walspring, textrem, others kindly advice if i should defer toll fall or go ahead and book another appointment and also will going for another bsc be a problem?
It doesn't hurt to tell the VO. After verification, your chances would have increased more.

But man, your responses were not good at all. Re-apply, focus more on successful transcripts and you shall succeed. But it's difficult if you are going for another for bachelor's degree in the same field.

You might get admitted to berkeley but only a miracle will make you get funding, Imean some indians are applying too with 330s GRE and Mad GPA, had a friend who got 337 in gre got admitted 3years ago with no funding. Berley is in top 3 in Engineering, so think well. Things might have changed though. Abeg spread your risk. We all have dreams because a man that has no dream is a dead man. So you can still apply but apply to other schools..look at schools in the south..Texas,tennesee etc

VISA APPROVED!
Thanks to all the wonderful guys and ladies here who take time to answer questions and contribute their knowledge for the benefit of other aspiring students. My visa was approved at the Abuja Consulate Office today at 7.30am; it was a sad sight: the amount of denials/delays issued to my fellow Nigerians. I was actually the first approved after up to 20 before me were given yellow papers; I was optimistic and cheerful (I've done my best in preparation and left the rest to God).
When my turn finally came, I was met face-to-face with a VO I had earlier met at a US College Fair held sometime in October this year. When I met him then, he was actually promoting his alma mater(can't remember the school now though). I asked him a simple question:
Why do you guys issue lots of visa denials? He candidly replied me that all an intending student needs to prove is that he is a genuine student:
How many schools did he/she apply to?;
Did he/she take any standardized tests?;
How truthful and clear re the information on his DS-160?
What are his/her long term career plans and how does it fit?;
Can he/she justify the reason why he/she needs to gain this education/degree abroad instead of in his home country?
How can he/she convince me that he/she's coming back after studies?

These are basically the questions that have been asked and answered here a thousand times.

VO: Why are you going to University of Central Missouri?
me: To pursue a MS Degree in Computer Information Systems
VO: Is that the only schools you applied to?
me: I applied to 5 Universities (named them)
VO: Why did you choose UCM?
me: (shortened version) It offered the best fit for my career growth in terms of its curricula content which include software engineering, information security, DBMS, bla bla bla...
VO: What do you currently do?
me: I work as the Confidential Secretary as well as Head of ICT at Federal XYZ..
VO: Have you been outside the country before?
me: No sir, I haven't.
VO: Are you married?
me: Yes sir, with a 9-month old daughter.
VO: Why are they not traveling with you?
me: My wife is currently at work at Federal XYZ; they'll come visit next year during her annual leave; moreover its a two-year program so she can't be granted a two-year leave of absence to join me during my studies.
Then the white paper and the instructions...
No documents (financial/test scores) were requested...
(Funny enough, I knew he recognized me but we both feigned ignorance of that - he was doing his job of course)

Through this journey, I've learned the following:
1. You are tagged an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT until you convince them otherwise. EVERY SINGLE question asked you proves or disproves this point.
2. You must do your homework: Take standardized tests; rigorously research your schools to ensure they are accredited; Let other experienced people help you enhance your transcript and offer better ideas/angles on how to answer these questions (You need to be GUIDED!); above all, you have to SELL yourself (be bold, be convincing, be well articulated - you don't need to memorize your answers so you don't sound like a robot).
3. Trust and put your faith in God. I met up with a fellow guy (same profile: married with kids) who was unsuccessful after the interview; on conversing with him, his answers were quite articulate, but yet, it didn't fly. I encouraged him to re-apply and work on his ties, as well as how his program can best fit his career progression.

When you've prepared to the best of your abilities, trust God to complete it...even if you fail, do not relent.

Special acknowledgement to mevisbleek, Walspring, sirRiddy as well as texrem, Lagosismyhome, and the host of you who devote your time and resources to help people.... May your wells never run dry!

Sorry for the long epistle; its just my little way of giving back to the community from which I have gained so much.

Sorry for the long epistle; its just my little way of giving back to the community from which I have gained so much.
congratulations
Enjoy ur stay in Trumpland
