Chapter 21

Forty eight hours after the terrorist attack at Tokyo airport, Remi and Yomi landed at a private airstrip on the outskirts of Tokyo without incident.

As of yet no group had claimed responsibility for the heinous atrocity; which now saw the confirmed death at 560, 100 injured and an unknown number of people missing.

They were met at the airstrip by two of Yomi’s American friends. David Chang was around 5’8 with a stocky build who to Remi looked to be Japanese-American and Christopher was 6’2 and lean was an African-American.
Remi didn’t even need to ask, these guys were either ex-military or security. This made him wonder who Yomi really was and what had brought him to Nigeria in the first place.

They drove in sombre silence to their hotel to drop off their bags and formulate a plan of action, on how they would tackle the hospitals and emergency medical centers that had sprung up around the airport.

The scale of the missing was driven home, by the huge scale of the contact centre outside the airport where people had put up posters, pictures and contact details for their missing loved ones.

Sam’s picture now joined the board of the missing and the potentially dead victims of the atrocity.

Social media was agog with theories and conspiracies regarding the group who could be responsible. But most people did their best from their arm chairs around the world to set up and update a virtual missing persons board.

It was decided amongst them, that Yomi and Remi would team up together, while David and Christopher would make up the second team. They each had satellite phones so being out of range would never be an issue. They agreed to touch base in four hours.

They decided to start their search on foot and hence they started the gruesome task of searching for Sam.

It's funny how you get to grasp the fragility and temporariness of life when you are presented with the close up reality, of the aftermath of destruction and seeing death and sorrow around you at every turn.
Bodies and limbs had been removed but the blood was still visible on the ground.

The heart rending scenes of listening to parents as they searched for their children, husbands searching for wife’s, wife’s searching for their husbands. Little children crying for their parents seeking and looking for the comfort of their embrace, that was now lost forever.

By the end of the first 4 hours on the ground they knew how to say in Japanese.

‘Have you seen this black woman’

Chapter 22

Sam lay on a sun lounger enjoying the sun rays on her body, as she covered her eyes with her sunglasses.

If anyone could define heaven this was it, she thought.

She was on an island, just off the mainland.
The sand was so clean it could only be described as white. Even though sand couldn’t really be white it looked that way as it shimmered luminously in the sunlight.

The air was just right, there was just a slight breeze in the air, helping the leaves of the coconut trees sway gently in the sun.
The sky was soo blue she couldn’t tell where the sky ended and the sea began, it was breathtakingly beautiful. The sea was bluish green on the horizon tempting swimmers into it's beauty.

On the horizon roughly a five minute leisurely swim away, was the mainland, bustling with people, noise and pollution.

The island was an oasis of calm, helping sooth her tired aching muscles.

Huge dolphins were swimming in the sea, just yards away from her. They seemed to jump in the air more frequently when they realised that she was watching them.

What a lovely sight, she thought to herself.

The sun felt soo good on her skin, as she moved to rub more sun screen on herself.

Bliss, she thought to herself as she settled deeper into the sun lounger.

A pina colada would not go amiss; she chuckled to herself as she realized she was thirsty.

She tried to get the attention of the waiters in the distance who were all dressed in white but they ignored her, which was very strange. They could see she was on the beach, it was the only sun lounger around.

She was about to get up and look for someone to get her a drink, when Michael appeared with a huge glass of water.

‘Hey you’ she said.
‘What are you doing here’ she said, as she smiled at him.

‘I am just here to give you some water, you are very thirsty at the moment’ he said, a sad smile on his face.

‘I really wanted a pina colada’ she smiled at him.

‘You won’t get that here Sam, just water and if you’re lucky fruit juice’ he said, passing the glass to her.

Chapter 20

Men being men the reality of the situation they faced, forced them to work as a team, the role of the leader inevitably and naturally fell to Yomi.

Remi was still in shock and was of no use to anyone at the moment. The shock of discovery, paired with the news unravelling before their eyes on TV made grim listening for all concerned.

The updated and rising death toll on the TV forced Remi out of his stupur.

‘I am going out there to look for her’ Remi said, as he stood and started pacing the room, back and forth.

‘I am not asking’ as he turned to Yomi who was on the phone and Bayo.

‘I am going there, I am going there’ his voice catching.

‘I am going to bring her home’ as tears fell on his cheeks.

The raw display of emotion was hard for Yomi and Bayo to witness.

‘Ok guys’ Yomi said, ending the call he had been on.

‘This is what we are going to do’ as he walked over to a white board in the office.

‘Remi and I will fly to Japan tonight, at the latest tomorrow morning. If we look at scheduled flights we are looking at around 33 hour’s flight time, due to stopovers. I have called in a few favours and hopefully someone will deliver, meaning we might have a private jet at our disposal’ he said looking at Remi and Bayo.

‘Bayo, you will stay here and…’ holding up his hand, when Bayo started objecting.
‘You will pay the staff, close the club until further notice and fly out and meet us on the next available flight’

Yomi turned to Remi.
‘What passport do you own?’ he asked, as he wrote notes on the white board.

For a brief moment, Remi suspected Yomi must have worked in the armed forces or something similar. He was too in control, organized and thought of everything in the middle of the crisis unfolding.

He was happy Sam had someone like this looking out for her.

He came out of his thoughts, when he noticed Yomi staring at him waiting for an answer.

‘Erm, I have a British and Nigerian Passport’ he replied wearily.

‘Great, then if someone does lend us a private jet we can be out of here in two hours’ Yomi said.

‘Remi, you can’t go on your own for this kind of mission. We will have to look for her amongst the living and the dead. It’s not something either of us should do on our ..’ as he broke down.

‘You will find her’ Bayo said, into the pregnant silence.

The unanswered question no one was willing to address was what state would she be in.

‘Whenever Sam travels she always sends me a copy of her passport and her insurance details’ Yomi said, looking at Remi as he went over to the computer and hit print.

‘Each one of us, will have a copy of these documents on us, we will need to show her picture to a lot of people.’ He continued.

Remi excused himself and went to call his parents.

His Mum picked it up on the first ring.

‘Remi, what’s wrong, why are you calling soo late. Are you ok. Remi!!! What is wrong’ his Mum raised voice came over the phone.

‘Oluwaremilekun, talk to me, please’ she said.

Silent tears were rolling down his cheeks, he cleared his throat.

‘Mum, I need to go to Japan. The woman I want to marry is missing’ his voice catching.

‘Ohh oh my baby’ her voice changed, the love and concern was getting hard for him.

‘Tell me what you want me to do’ he heard his father’s voice in the background.

‘Remi, do you want me to come with you?’ he heard his father say in the background.

‘No Daddy, not at the moment I am flying out with her brother tonight. I will call you when we land. Love you both’ he said, as he ended the call.

He paced around the office to regain his composure before he called his boss.

He was granted immediate emergency leave and his boss promised to check immediately to see if the company’s private jet was available.

He walked back into the office to see Yomi, opening a suitcase and placing all kinds of phones, satnavs and other things he could only imagine what they would be used for in the case.

He looked up when he saw Remi hovering in the entrance.

‘Wheels up in sixty minutes, we have a plane. We will stop by your place for you to pick up a few things’ Yomi said, as he continued to load electronics into his brief case.

Remi watched him as he went over to Bayo, wiped away his tears and hugged him.

Tonight had been a night of revelations all round.

Lleigh!!!
I don't seem to understand where you are driving us to!
Do you mean Sam is dead?
Has she finally join Michael?
Why Michael appeared to give her water?
Why the waiters refused to answer her to give her water to quench her taste?
Why all of them dressed in white?
So many questions in my mind but I will wait to read next next and next
You're talented bae.

Next please.

Re: The Club a story - #nlwriters by Nobody: 6:06am On Nov 23, 2016
Sam is in hospital, in a coma maybe. She probably having a near-death-experience hence Michael's appearance.

The devil in me wants her dead, just so Tomi and Bayo would regret ever toying with someone's feelings. Not that I understand Remi's sudden "the girl I want to marry" comes from.

The height of konji fearing death made Remi speak in tongues

Jamb question ooo

Okay, let me see. I haven't decided yet actually. I hate Bayo, Tomi and Sam for toying with Remi. I don't want Remi to marry Sam but the club "meetings" are okay. I think Bayo is either secretly crushing on Remi and Tomi is a twin plug. I'm think also that Bayo is already sharing sweets with Tomi.

I just want Sam back, then they openly do whatever. Everyone back to their normal routine. BORING ENDING
