This is no reason to flog anyone on the head. Just a teacher's command will make her put the book out of place. Then ask that in the next 10 minutes of your teaching, she would need to answer question to elicit her attention which will affect her test score if she misses it.

Don't say it is easier said than done because I am a university lecturer and no one student will say anything against me. I consistently top their top lecturer.
