uzolexis:which stupid studies done by who? You'd better stop fooling yourselves, was the studies conducted here? That's how you people embrace everything western forgetting your core moral values. I don't blame most of the children hiding behind keyboard to post nonsense, you people have really lost it I pity the future of this wayward generations You people are even happy the teacher is jailed for beating an erring and untrained child. I've attended a PTA meeting in my children's school where parents we're against non flogging, can you imagine where a parent threatens the school that he will remove his child if they don't flog He being a father and knows how stubborn his child is knows that allowing the teacher flogg his child is not hatred but love, so the bible that said spare the rod and spoil the child was stupid. I weep so much for generations. |

Keneking:I think you are wrong on one point. The proprietor has done nothing wrong to deserve a prison sentence. He did the right thing by suspending the offending teacher indefinitely. That was enough protective action from the proprietor. The teacher lost his job. Onyinye and his siblings or thugs as claimed by the school should have been contented with that. I guess they too over reacted the same way the teacher over reacted. If the proprietor had invited the police when they invaded the school, they too would have been in court for conduct likely to breach the peace. It is not good that they took laws into their hands in an attempt to avenge a wrong to their sibling. Two wrongs do not make a right. When an issue occurs between a child and his teacher, the appropriate authorities should be allowed to take action. It is when no action or serious action is taken that other steps which does not include self help can be defensible. But one thing I have always noticed about our Igbo brethren is their knack for unnecessary power show at the slightest provocation. I do not know, it may be due to the raw strength that comes from akpu, their staple food. I am not being tribalistic. I eat akpu myself even though I am proudly Yoruba. I think we should all learn to calm down when a bad situation happens and handle situations in a way that will not teach young folks like Onyinye that jungle justice is the best. I sympathize with the proprietor of that wonderful school. I was the Guest Speaker at their graduation a few years back. Such a good school in the news for this kind of thing. A great pity. |

If she could confess that she was busy doing something else while a teacher was carrying out his noble duty in class means she must have done more than that to get the teacher infuriated. Children have the backing of parents to disrespect teachers and school authority. Maybe because most of them are under paid hence parents see them as poor and helpless folks. |

Olanna45:Yep, total hands off seems to be the solution just teach the child let parents handle disciplining their children themselves and let's see what will happen. |

yetseyi:Teaching can be a very thankless job. You discipline the children, parents will arreest you. On the other hand, you let them do as they please and they fail, the same parents will blame you and most school owners will sack teachers when their students fail as if it is the responsibility of the teacher to make the children pass. The teachers responsibility is to teach and guide the children. But how do you do that when the student does not want to be taught or guided? Besides, why do parents enjoy pulling out their children from school to attend burials, weddings and otjher ceremonies. I remember when I was a Lagos as head of a school, a parent approached me that he wanted to go to the village to bury his late father but wanted to withdraw the 11 year old son from the hostel to go with them even when examinations were just two weeks away. I refused to release the boy. I told him to go bury his father and let me prepare the son to become a big man who will give him a befitting burial when he grows old and joins his ancestors. Onyinye left school for a burial, what a waste of time for an SS 3 student who is scheduled to write WASSCE and NECO SSCE in a few months!. However all these do not justify Mr. Adesina's actions. |

uzolexis:::---Anybody can claim anything. The girl's brothers might put a big plaster on her head, and upload the picture to play on peoples emotion and sentiment sets in before you know it you become judgemental. This was a set up by the brothers. I believe the girl has been reporting the teacher to her brothers before this incident. They have mapped out strategy on how to teach him a bitter lesson of his life. The teacher just entered the well laid trap by flogging the girl. I experienced something similar to this in the past and i know how the plan was orchestrated. |

Funny We All Faced Such During School Days, For Me It Was Even Worst Being In A Military School, With Soldiers being the disciplinarians. Its High Time We Faze Out This Ideology That Its Only By Beating A Child Before Discipline is Installed. Funny The Western World Dont Flog Their Kids and They End Up Ok.. So Who Flogging Help Sef. You see A Child Who Has dyslexia (a general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence) and you thinking flogging the child would improve anything. Sadly 90% of Teachers Out There Dont Even Know What Dyslexia Means Sorry To Say and Rather Than Give Special Attention to the child or Inform the Parents, They Carry Out Their Frustration by Flogging the life out of the Child. Its Really Sad and Is Something That Needs To End. You See A Child Come Late To School, You Even See That He/She was dropped off by her parents, you wait for the parent to drive off and you inturn punish the child by flogging or someother punishment. Please Tell Me.. Was He/She Suppose To Drive The Car When His/Her Parent was running late. So Many Cases. But I would not take it if my Son or Daughter Is Physically Abused By ANY TEACHER to the extent of scaring the child.. NO WAY. They Are Better ways to instill discipline in a Child not by FEAR OF BEING FLOGGED TO DEATH. |

AdiscoPele:Am not suprised you re sounding like a teacher.. well my dear lemme enlighten you a lil bit.. there is nothing wrong in a teacher correcting a student for doing wrong (even though I can't find any from the present story) but not to the extent of flogging the child to the extent of injuring him/her... look my friend.. people re wicked nd you need to be very careful of whom you hand your kids over to.. haven't you seen or heard of cases where people in the disguise of nannies beat innocent and harmless kids to death??.. experience they say is the best teacher, but am of the view that one does not have to wait until it happens to you before u learn.. that's the doctrine of learning from other people's experience.. well we are different people with different views and ideologies of life.. so if u re of the view or will permit someone called a teacher flog ur kid(s) to the extent of injuring them, good for you.. wonder what kind of father that will make you... bearing in mind that flogging or harsh treatment isn't always a way of teaching or training a child... it is called a school and not a military camp. #5iver... |

The school is notorious for excessive floggings. I witnessed it twice a month ago on visits. It will serve as a deterrent to other teachers. Their school fees for all classes is N14,000 per term which can be paid in small instalments. Its like a public school. |

AdiscoPele:It is not about embracing anything western, it is about using common sense and trusting in scientist who are well trained in psychiatry and have taken their time to carry out this research. Of course, pple like you will say no to science and insist on following your archaic ways, good for you. Show me all the good flogging has done in your life, all the criminals and touts we had on the street they were well flogged and they still turned out like that. @the bold, the teacher was jailed for child abuse don't try to give it a good name, that was child abuse and you obviously support child abuse. If you think flogging a child on the head till the child bleeds is ok, then you really need to get your head checked ![]() |

In a Twilight Zone land like Nigeria where petty thieves and purported witches are set upon and beaten to death by baying mobs, it is hardly surprising to read opinions expressed in this forum by brain-dead, bloodthirsty individuals, absurdly seeking to apportion blame to the innocent female child VICTIM of this horrible attack, rather than to the crazed attacker who is now thankfully behind bars. Former Lagos State Governor Fashola, whose administration outlawed the beating and torture of children in Lagos state, courageously set the bar of civilized conduct in Nigeria, several notches higher, proving yet again that Fashola is indeed one of the most heroic and progressive political leaders ever to emerge in the current generation. Incumbent Lagos State Governor Ambode also deserves effusive praise for his own administration's resolute upholding of the Fashola Doctrine, ensuring that children in Lagos state continue to enjoy full protection of the law, from the evils perpetrated by sadistic creatures masquerading as school teachers. For the avoidance of doubt, beating and cruelty to children in Lagos state IS ILLEGAL, meaning that morons who wish to test and violate that child protective law WILL find themselves slam-dunked into a nice overcrowded jail cell, just as is the case in the instance of the brutal assault on this young child. Competent and qualified medical practitioners in the house will wholeheartedly agree that ANY significant impact to the cranium of a human being has the potential to KILL the victim, either instantly at the time of the attack, or later in subsequent days and weeks, in those instances where tiny blood vessels, ruptured by the impact to the head, proceed to leak blood into the sealed skull, until the brain-stem is compressed such that the victim keels over and dies without warning. The lunatic "teacher", whose homicidal rampage inflicted that massive welt on the head of a small child, should now be prosecuted for ATTEMPTED MURDER, to the fullest interpretation of the laws of the land, so that notice is duly served to ALL other potential killers masquerading as school teachers, that they will find themselves in prison for a good long time, if they assault children in ANY context. With respect to the school authorities who went ahead and implemented an idiotic decision to expel the victim of this horrific assault from school, it is safe to conclude that this sort of barbarity against children is not only condoned, but actively encouraged, in that particular school. In this light, the principal of the school should be summarily arrested and jailed alongside the incarcerated aggressor, pending criminal trial, on charges of serving as an willing accomplice to the crime that was committed by a deranged member of his staff. If it is determined that the school's violation the no-beating law now active throughout Lagos State, was driven by internal policy, then without question, that school, should be CLOSED DOWN immediately, again to serve as a dire warning to all other rogue institutions who imagine themselves to be above and exempt from the laws of the land. On a personal level, and in the purely hypothetical instance that volunteers were sought for the purpose of teaching that renegade teacher one final lesson, with full legal immunity, I would gladly load up my hunting shotgun with buckshot, and then unhesitatingly blast into red smithereens the cancerous brain matter of that cruel animal who got his kicks from trying to kill children, purely as a public service on my part. Regrettably, or perhaps, fortunately, this sort of frontier justice is not permitted by the laws in place. As a compromise, therefore, a fair trial for that assault and battery crime, followed by 5 to 10 years breaking rocks and starving to death in jail, would be very much in order, so as to illustrate the resolve of the state, to protect her most vulnerable citizens, the children. |
