Wow! All these intimidating credentials! No wonder a certified i. d.i.o.t semi-illiterate a.b.o.k.i like the Daura D.u.l.lard did not appoint him as Minister of Finance in Nigeria because the D.u.ll.ard is scared of anyone more intelligent than himself.
Ogunlesi would have been an upgrade on Okonjo Iweala because he had a double first: First class degree in Law and First clasd degree in Economics.
America's gain is our loss.
your mumu no be hia o.
Is he an APC member
Does he remember the road to Nigeria let alone his village
Will you be happy if you spent billions to sponsor a candidate then he refuse to appoint you claiming it's nepotism.

Let me ask you are question. A Nigerian living in Nigeria and who is a Naturalized American, is asked on a form to specify what nationality he is. What do you think he is going to put down? and it does not have to be five years. It could be 4 months.

What I'm saying is being a citizen of US does not make u a less citizen of ur home land. Haven't u seen ppl who are citizens to more than one country. The man in question is a Nigerian citizen by birth...

.... Buhari will dare not call this kind of man, because he won't come. Before now, how many people know professor Akintunde Ibitayo kinwande, (an electrical and mechanical computer professor ) but when they nominated his name as the Chairman of Nigeria population commission ,the man rejected the job. So don't expect the Yoruba in diaspora to support Fulani man. Asiwaju Tinubu that would have encouraged those ones, he is being gradually sideline at the federal, so, OMOLUABI, always think deep and twice. Eshin Iwaju to ji si koto ni, a ko arayoku logbon

I'm British and have been for nearly 30 years. I may be British on paper, have certain ideologies etc. but these don't make me any less a Nigerian. My children are in their mid to late twenties, born and bred in the U.K. and have never ever been to Nigeria (yet). However, they see themselves as Nigerians in many ways. If my kids (and many like them here in the U.K) identify with their Nigerian origin, how much more the man in question who was even born in Nigeria and had his early education there?

My brother is a naturalised American and has been for 38 Years. His grown up children are all Americans by birth and upbringing. None of them even have Nigerian passports. Yet, they all see themselves as Nigerians and identify strongly with the culture.

Because you put down British, American or whatever down on paper doesn't make yours or your parents' country of origin any less what it is.

Adebayo Ogunlesi is an American citizen on paper yes. But he is a Nigerian by origin and nothing can ever change that!

Good for you. But remember this; what you see yourself as and what you really are, are two different things. I would seriously advise you to throw away that mentality. There is no way you can be normal and identify with the Nigerian culture. It is a culture that has kept them in the rot they've experienced since independence.

I was going to say the ethnic bigots would soon be here to pollute this beautiful thread, not knowing they had already arrived.

These people cannot raise a discussion beyond the levels of afonjas, Igbos, plenty oil in the soup or no oil at all in another.

Dumb ass folks. This thing is becoming really irritating to the point of puking.

And these are youths in their 20s and 30s who should be having intelligent conversations.

These days I avoid threads on crimes because one iddiot would check names and insist that crimes is the exclusive preserve of one ethnic group.

I don't know what Seun can do, but these set of people who cannot see beyond the prism of Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa are gradually turning this forum to child's play.

Nations dont grow like this. It's unfortunate, really unfortunate.

God bless you for this bro , its a Pity that there so many unfortunate ones like this all over nairaland. You see them on every politics and crime thread making no sensible contribution than just to insult each other , praise politicians that don't even care about their existence. Its also rather sad that most of them are within the age group you mentioned and to add to that they are mostly unemployed and they think buhari, tinubu, rochas and co are responsible for their predicament . If these ones are the future of Nigeria , I wonder what will become of us

..... Perfect point. Thanks for your candid opinion. There are people on this forum clinging to the notion of diaspora Nigerians denouncing their country of origin “for The civilized West". But I am happy reading your piece of writing. Quite awesome to read.

Funny. Look at you lecturing a woman, probably old enough to be your mother, about what the woman really is or isn't! What's that got to do with anything especially about someone you don't know in real life?!

I give up. Too many kids here. That's why I rarely post.

First of all, working for the ministry of finance might require to divest all his assets in his companies so as to prevent possible conflicts of interest which i doubt that he would want to do.

Also, i doubt that he would want to taint his reputation and become minister of finance in a very corrupt environment like naija?
Can you imagine working for a boss who tells you to approve illegal transactions or tells you to look the other way while other people loot the treasury?

Another issue is that a brilliant guy like that might not want to work for a micro-manager like Buhari. I mean why would he want to work for a give who won't give him free rein to recruit his team and do his job effectively without interference? Abeg, if i were in his shoes i would not work for a guy who constantly overrules your decisions despite the fact that i am more knowledgeable than he is.

I think the best thing might be for him to be an adviser to the president similarly to what he is currently doing for Trump right now. It won't make sense for him to stoop so low and be earning significantly lower than what he is currently making right now.

That's not completely true, there are alternatives like Blind trusts. No savvy business person will want to divest their assets just for the sake of a temporal position.

Hank Paulson, George Bush's last secretary of the treasury was the co-CEO at Goldman Sachs before liquidating his shares in the company and heading to the treasury.

My point is that liquidation is not the only option open to them, they can choose to do so but they do NOT have to liquidate their assets.

A blind trust is employed by a federal official to hold, administer and manage the private financial assets, investments and ownerships
of the official, and his or her spouse and dependant children, as a method of conflict of interest avoidance.

Bayo Ogunlesi owns Gatwick Airport in the UK... the second busiest aiport in the UK. some were saying he ought to have been appointed minister of finance...thats a soft joke! He would have rejected that position outrightly. This man is not in the class of Oby or NOA. He's a staunch business man

Come to think of it David those who have already engaged themself in the politics do you mean they dont have mature and best mind?
If you are sure of yourself and knows you have political and best mind why dont they join them and get things done....
Lets reasoning together bro and do some cogitate things politics is all about disagreement and reconciliation*......
davidif:

This is the exact mentality that is killing Nigerians? Do you know how many people on that advisory body that voted and even spoke against Trump? Yet he still brought them on.

In Nigeria, instead of going out and get the best minds possible you go and hire party insiders who know nothing about running an economy. The Ministry of finance are such amateurs its not even funny. This guys don't even seem to have a plan. They are just running up and down putting out fires.

Buhari's job is not to show favoritism but to look for competence wherever he can find it.
