It was a Black Saturday in Akwa Ibom State today as Reigners Bible Church structure collapsed in Uyo during the ordination service of Bishop Akan Weeks. According to reports, scores of congregants died with many injured after the Church building tragedy...

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted rescuers as saying that over 60 victims had been removed from the debris.

The Reigners Bible Church, located along Uyo Village Road, was filled to capacity as its pastor was being consecrated as a Bishop, when the tragedy occurred.

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, who was the special guest of honour at the event and other escaped unhurt by not arriving on time at the church programme.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Reigners Bible Church International building, situated on Uyo Village Road, was still under construction when it collapsed. A witness told NAN that the building collapsed 30 minutes after the governor arrived.

There's no god anywhere like religion will want us to believe. Why would he let this happen if there was?

No one should give me that crap about god having a reason for everything. Reason? when people are dead and in an agonizing painful way?

The church was built badly and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Once we kick away religion and face reality the earth and it's inhabitants will be better off.

Actually the Gov was at the church, his protocol officer lives in the next apartment to mine, called me on the phone when it happened, I personally drove to the church myself.
Some of the orderlies and men attached to the governor actually died.

Very tragic story.

Innocent Christians died yet all the corrupt politicians made it out alive.... I still dont understand how this concept of religion works

It's very sad! My condolences to the Families of the victims. May they find comfort on every side. And may the souls of the departed find eternal rest.
